The Hyborian Age is such a good world for this series because Howard's stories always read like historical fiction. A lot of good material for documentaries.
Right? In fact, I remember that while reading the final battle in "The Scarlet Citadel", I thought: "Man, this feels like the narration of a K&G video".
If you like that kind of narrative, no one does it better than Steven Erickson in his Malazan Book of the Fallen series. He's an archaeologist, anthropologist , poet and author. And if you like the Barbarian archetype, you'll love Karsa Orlong in the series. Introduced in book 2.

Karsa Orlong and the Malazan Book of the Fallen series is sadly even more underrated. If you like conan, you'd love Karsa in the series. He comes into the picture in book 2.
I don't think Conan is underrated. It's old, though, and the adaptations are relatively obscure, Schwarzenegger movies notwithstanding, and often take liberties with the source material. Look at almost any of the big names in sword & sorcery and they'll happily refer you to Howard, and these days Conan gets press because of his connection to the Cthulu Mythos, too. And as for modern adaptations, you'd think that having the stories in the public domain would be a good thing: no need to pay any royalties to or get permission from the creator! But the problem is that as IP obsessed as Hollywood is, there's security in knowing you have the rights locked down, especially when it comes to derivative projects. _Especially_ if you're faithful to the original material, there's the obvious defense somebody copying you is really and truly - we swear! - copying the originals.
