    There was a time in my life when I would have thought this move was bad. I was young, very full of myself, and believing that relaxing and enjoying a movie that did not have a philosophical metaphor was a waste of time and beneath my big brain.
    Now that I understand how inconsequence my big brain really is, I loved this move!
    10/10

      I agree. I just watched it on telly and utterly enjoyed it as an undemanding popcorn flick.
      Yeah, I must admit that it took me a little while to swallow the presented plot contrivance of them having the Russian captain on-board who ultimately saved their necks on two very desperate occasions and particularly the second one was a massive cliche, but in the end I was quite happy with the final result.
      I will gladly re-watch it some time in the future.

    Went to see it today, way better than mile 22, Give me Butler over Wahlberg any day. Nice mindless Friday afternoon fun I thought. Don't take it too seriously and you're golden.

    I just watched it. The movie is quite fun and tense, I thought. It's a Gerard Butler movie, it was never going to be a masterpiece. But I was entertained.

    I've watched 5 of the sharknado films, but even I have the common decency to avoid Gerard Butler like the plague.

      People who watch Sharknado films usually do not go for stuff as is Coriolanus. I'd bet that he or she absolutely does not know that Butler is also a full-fledged dramatic actor who has done a number of decent and even great films in that genre over the years.
      These people watch just the shallow commercial stuff and nothing much beyond.

    There were quite a few places in the movie that didn't make military sense. The Undaloy firing SA-N-9 short range anti aircraft missiles to destroy a command centre was only one of them. It was nevertheless a treat to see a CG Virginia Class sub, Akula sub and Undaloy destroyers in manoevres. A real pity that the writers didn't make the Undaloy fire the SS-N-14 Rastrub anti sub missile!!!

    Disengage brain. Go watch. This is just a good fun, daft action film. I didn't go for Oscar winning performances or deep intellectual story telling. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

    I saw Hunter Killer in cinema & I absolutely loved it, I`d even go far as to say,my favorite movie of 2018 - kid you not. This movie was just outstanding, absolutely riveting, one of the best action spy movies ever - Seriously, Gerald Butler is in terrific form as is all supporting cast, astonishing visual effects, did he see the same movie as I did? Seriously, don`t miss this at the cinema.

    Even though I've only seen Gerard Butler in 300, I get the impression that he's always playing the same character in the same movie: the heroic everyman who is "complicated" and is searching for redemption of some kind and finally gets it at the end and has to protect someone (i.e. Presidents) in his doesn't-sound-like-a-Scottish-actor-pretending-to-have-a-convincing-American-accent accent. Please tell me if I'm right.

      He only has _one_ face expression. The contorted-angry-pain-manly sort. So manly, even the mask in Phantom of the Opera broke because of it (or because his singing, whichever came first).

    its a real shame that Gerald butler, who I think is a decent actor is getting films with sadly passable scripts and just wish he would concentrate on something worthy of his talent? or is it that there are no decent films being made out there at the moment? :(

    I went to see this last Friday and had a great time. Everyone i know feels the same. If you don't like action movies then you're not going to like this. However, I wanted to punch Gary Oldman's character in the face. Many times.

      The film is pretty decent for what it is, an actioner. A popcorn flick.
      90% of people who actually watched the film sharply disagree with Mark on this one.
      P.S. - I like Mark and have followed him for over a decade now, but I also learnt during that time that not everything he thinks and says is automatically a given.

    Every single time i have seen the poster for this movie on a bus passing by i have burst out laughing every time, will Gerald Butler ever do a respectable movie anytime this decade?!!!!!!! i mean this movie looks like straight to DVD stuff.... Another review i read said Gary Oldman appears in this movie for about 5 mins and in that time just screams at everybody guess he needs to buy another house or something.......

      P.S. - In a regard of those "respectable films", during the last 10 years Butler also made such great films as Coriolanus, Machine Gun Preacher, Chasing Mavericks, Den of Thieves, The Vanishing, Greenland, and Copshop.

    To be the fair the opening of him about to shoot the deer is a set up for what happens at the end but I agree the film is dull main because of the direction. Watching the film all I was thinking was this could have been great 20 years ago with John McTiernan or Tony Scott directing.

      The film is full of well-choreographed and well-shot action sequences and even the scenes with people "just" talking are often charged with tension, so that makes it a gripping watch all the way through.
      And I was able to swallow the presented cliches and the one massive plot contrivance.
      I will gladly re-watch it some time in the future.

    Well for once I fundamentally disagree with the good Doctor. Not that it's a good film, it isn't. But the plot is pretty straightforward (however unlikely) and certainly isn't difficult to follow, and as far as I can remember Gary Oldman only shouts once.

    The entire film is filled with stupid scenes. Men in enemy territory, swimming underwater trying to remain hidden with facemasks that have lights at the temples, using flashlights. A totally idiotic film.

    AWESOME movie, almost like a sequel to the hUNT FOR RED october. The only absurd thing is the female Hillary Clinton esque president in the movie. Cant Hollywood simply accept and acknowledge who won and lost the presidential election? If this movie is set in present day, the president in the movie should have been a blonde male, not some old crusty female.
