There mostly is little need to use the dial, just make a turn towards the needle until it is straight up, then you're flying straight towards the NDB. When you have time on your hands you can turn the dial to show your current heading on top. The needle now shows the exact bearing to the NDB. Make that your new heading and you fly straight in.
Both share the same function as to guide you towards or away from the radio beacon. They differ in radio technology. NDB's are older and are currently phased out. These are two videos on both: NDB: ua-cam.com/video/OqFlPElygso/v-deo.html VOR: ua-cam.com/video/SL2Z1TnJg9c/v-deo.html
Your nav equipment will simply guide you straight towards an NDB from wherever you happen to be. Whereas, according to your requirements, you can plan to fly towards a VOR and approach on a specific heading.
Good explanation and clear/understandable pronunciation. Merci!
Thanks for your feedback, it's appreciated.
Should you select 090 on ndb gauge so that it shows correct bearing?
