When I bought my tesla. I was planning on making videos like this. Then I found your channel and just hit the subscribe button. You do it better than I ever could. Keep up the good work!
I got the Illuminated Door seals for my 2021 Model Y and I LOVE THEM. It really does add just that extra bit of "class" to the car and look really slick whenever opening the door.
I installed these today after ordering with your code. Thank you so much for the video! Super helpful. I would have lost my mind without it. They look great!! Thank you!!
These illuminated door sills look great and are easy to install. But they have a defect: They’re a bit too thick and scrape against the paint on the underside of the car door and will eventually lead to rust. This was told to me by the Tesla Tech when I took the car into service for a rattle that I heard. There is a reason why Tesla has you remove their original door sills to install their illuminated ones. The Tesla model has a much lower footprint and doesn’t scratch the paint. I would have never noticed the light scratching had I not taken my car in for service
I installed my Tesla Brand ones today. LOL the glue came off almost in its entirety! Barely any work on my end. Get a good hair dryer and maybe because mine was just delivered recently. I love them. They look great but I noticed one didn’t light after I opened the door. No idea what happened. But upon opening and closing it worked again. Look so good!!
great product, it does really adds to the pop of the car. By the way, I wonder how long the battery will last to illuminate the plate, and how easy is to change the battery then?
Looks like it takes a CR2032 battery but I don't see a way to replace it. I would hope to get 3 to 5 years similar to the life I got in my car remote control using a CR2032.
I did some quick math as you say the batteries are rated for 3 year of continuous use. That is 94,672,800 seconds. Thinking conservatively, lets say you have the door open for 15 seconds every time you open it. That means you can open the door 6,311,520 times before the battery dies. That is pretty awesome, hope that is true!
I just replaced the battery in my car remote with a new CR2032 (same as this panel uses) and the batteries are rated to hold a charge for 10 years on the shelf. My car remote gets infrequent use (less than the door is opened closed) and lasted 5 years on the CR2032 battery.
I don’t have a site so if you could pass this on. My model X was in the winter storm. Rain to snow. This put a coating of ice over car and windows. The car when the door tries to open first drops the window 1/2”. Well the ice would not let the window go down. The fix. Have the car warm up but for the window, leave the key far away and walk up to the car. Using an old credit card or something similar slide it into lower window seal and then all way around and down thru all door seams to clear any ice in these parts. Hope you found this helpful and can get it out there. Thanks.
Idea is great but since it’s battery powered, battery will drain and will need replacement. Since it’s glued in there pretty good. How hard would that be to remove it from the car and how much damage can it have when you forcefully take it out?
Should be easy and I can’t imagine it would do any damage. You’d just replace the adhesive strips to reinstall. It’s the same as the Tesla one in that regard
These look very nice, but a replaceable battery is a much better design. Strange they didn't place a battery cover on top of sill. I assume the gloss black scratches very easily from shoes. A matt finish is more forgiving.
Very nice! How is it powered? Also, I don't think the adhesion promoter is for the sticky side. Usually adhesion promoter is a cleaner that decontaminates the surface it's sticking to, so that the adhesive will adhere better.
I have them. I'm pretty sure they're battery-powered. The part that activates it that's on the door is what turns it on and I would say the light stays on for maybe a minute.
Dear BTG, How are those illuminated door sills holding up? Are you still enjoying them? Are they getting scuffed up? Do you feel you have to baby them in order to NOT scuff them up? Would love to hear your thoughts because I’ve been hesitating on these for some time now.
So correct me if I'm wrong and blind at the same time, you just installed them OVER the existing ones in the front instead of removing them and all that backing??
Would love your opinion. My 2 month old MYLR is red with black interior. The door plates are black as well. IYHO would you install the black or chrome plates? BTW, love your videos. I’m not really “car guy” and they have been extremely helpful. Thank you.
Thanks a lot again for the great videos and products you upload. I already order mine using your link, question is : how long took your order to be delivered since you place it ?
I ordered on Jan 2nd and it has not shipped yet. Emailed asking for a timeline and was told they are out of stock, but gave no estimate for when I could expect it to ship.
I order mine January 2nd and just received them yesterday February 5th. Thanks for the tutorial @BeardedTeslaGuy, I wouldn’t be able to figure it out without your tutorial.

Hey BTG, Just wondering if you have any scrapes on yours? Saw reviews of ppl saying it scrapes against the bottom of the door. Are yours still holding up?
Thank you for your quick & transparent response , my wife & I are getting our 1st Tesla. Hopefully, our Model Y should be ready for pick-up next week. Do you think placing a clear strip of something would help prevent the scrapes? Or are the scrapes so minor that it doesn’t bother you
Hey have you done a video on when you should reject delivery? What are your rights as a buyer? Aka, should you be able to inspect the interior before inspecting? While I understand this can be subjective, may shed some light
Love your channel. Have been following you for a while now. We have 3 teslas in our family now (2 M3 and one MY). The lighted door sills look really nice. One question... at some point the battery will fail. How do you replace it?
I believe you have to pull the plate off, replace the battery, then reinstall with new adhesive. They say the batteries are rated for 3 years of continuous use.
Hey BTD! You helped us so much on our Y purchase that I'm coming back to you for more advice. We want to order a 3 now long range. Tesla's site no longer (seems to) give an estimated delivery date. Do you happen to know how long the 3LR wait is these days? Have you heard anything about better batteries or more range? I know its a little off topic but we trust you for the best info! Thanks and Happy New Year!!
I have a question. I have seen you in previous videos showing camping 🏕 mode on your Y. On the east coast they were stuck for 27 hours because of snow ❄️. Would your Car be able to maintain camp mode even if you had say 250 miles left of charge? I am asking because it happened In Virginia yesterday and they could not move for 27 hours. Second question is does the navigation inform you of a upcoming traffic jam? Sorry when I saw the traffic jam on the east coast all I though of if I had a Y model would the batteries last that long in camp ⛺️ mode. Thanks in advance.
That's honestly the real question. I have some myself. I'm worried about when the battery runs out. But I guess I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.
@@XYZyeahUknowMe battery longevity will be based upon how often you open your doors. Super easy to change the battery you just need to buy new double-sided 3M tape to reapply the sill. Hey BTG,
Just wondering if you have any scrapes on yours? Saw reviews of ppl saying it scrapes against the bottom of the door. Are yours still holding up?
