Tamera's acting after Nostalgia Critic blew up on her really made me sad. The moment where she was happy after he said he loved Christmas still and then when he proceeded to tear her apart was actually kind of heartbreaking :(

This film takes place in 1946. Using the CPI Inflation Calculator, I found that $85 back then would equal $1,053.69 in 2016. So, pretty hefty sum.
Looks like it says .40 per pound. That would equate to $4.96 per pound in 2016.
Plus the federal minimum wage at the time was $0.40 per hour.

It gets even more tasteless when you realize that this is a sequel to a movie that was about REAL people.
There’s no way the author would like this movie, especially since the 1st movie was based on a book about his own childhood.
Tamara is legitimately a wonderful, talented and professional actor. Long may she run. In fact, the entire NC posse is incredible.
And, you, Doug, are an absolutely wonderful, compassionate and multi-talented person.

When Nostalgia Critic went back in time to set things right. It kinda touched my heart.
The weird thing is that there already *was* a sequel: "My Summer Story." Made by the same people, it even had the same narrator.
That was the original title they were going for, but MGM changed it to “It runs in the family” because they feared people were gonna make unfair comparisons to the first movie.

I actually saw a play called "The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge" that took place a year after the story and it was about Scrooge suing the Ghosts of Christmas.
It was weird.

The end makes me tear up.
The true meaning of Christmas isn't stuff, or even spending time with people you actually give a crap about. The true meaning of Christmas is KILL or BE KILLED!!!
Thankfully, 10 years later, they decided to try again, only this time they do it correctly. This one actually had Peter Billingsly come back, as well as the same actors who played Flick and Schwartz, and definitely looks and feels
more like a feature film compared to this movie. And it didn’t annoyingly reuse most of the gags from the first film, sure they were a few callbacks, but they only lasted a few seconds.
Hell, It’s even got 78% on RT, and Christmas Story 2 doesn’t even have a score.

It's probably because the characters are well defined, likeable, and have grown over the course of their inception. Quite unlike every character in this god awful movie.

Those feels at the end. This review single handedly made Hyper Fan Girl my favorite of his characters ever. Tamara plays her SO convincingly, she’s both crazy and likable.
Also it convinced me that a show based around Nostalgia Critic characters could be AMAZING. If it was written like this review was, it could make an amazing web series or etc.
(It also made me hate that she gets with Devil Boner, since the ending kinda leaves hints that Critic might not mind her coming back into his life. Idk though might just be because of that damn cute cuddle scene.)

I respectfully disagree . I like that he gives depth to his characters and how well Tamara plays her, but I don't know. Reportedly, Hyper Fan Girl was based on real life female stalkers of Doug's. The ending makes me kind of uncomfortable knowing that. Like "Yeah if you stalk someone enough you too will be rewarded." I mean if the genders were reversed, I don't think a male stalker would be written so compassionately.
You know what would've made this movie slightly better... besides it not existing? Casting Bryan Cranston as the Old Man! He bares more of a resemblence to Darren McGavin than Daniel Stern. Bryan would've made a good Old Man. He'd go Walter White on the furnace and really capture the mannerisms more than Stern.

OR, even better: set it twenty years later, where Ralphie is married and has two kids. His oldest daughter, Sophie, wants a car, and so the storyline revolves around her. That may be lame, but look what the alternative was.
I think his cussing at the furnace would have been a bit too vulgar for A Christmas Story. XD

A dollar in A Christmas Story 2 would be worth a little more that $13 in 2017
$85 in the same context would be worth more than $1,100 in the current year.
This and The Lorax are probably my most favourite reviews from Doug. They just seem so genuine and actually make me feel an emotion in comparison the the actual material that is being reviewed.
This one in particular gets me close to shedding a tear at the end every time I watch it. I guess if that makes me an emotional baby then so be it.

25:18 this completely misses the point. The old man loved the lamp because it represented an accomplishment, an affirmation of his self proclaimed brilliance. Showing the whole neighborhood how great he was, that's the value of that lamp.

Wait! There was a second Christmas Story movie? This is actually the first time I have heard of there being a second one I didn't know this existed......And maybe it should of stayed that way.
Well, the thing is...this isn't the first "sequel". There were other adaptations of Shepherd's writings. A couple of these were shown on PBS a few years after ACS (but PBS did other adaptations even before ACS...including a much earlier "leg lamp" scene) and then there's My Summer Story/It Runs In The Family, with Kieran Culkin and Charles Grodin. But all of these were direct adaptations of Jean Shepherd's original stories, with his narration. (My Summer Story featured one of my personal favorites--the Dish Night movie theater fiasco and the Gravy Boat riot.) This doesn't have a thing to do with a word Jean Shepherd wrote--it just FEELS phony.
SharkBait19904 There is a proper sequel called 'It Runs in the Family/My Summer Story' which is by the same director as the first and is based off the writings of Jean Shepard (writer of the book) and features him as narrator again, like in the first film.

The adorable couch scene is giving me flashbacks to a few years ago when a girl I liked back then used to put her head on my shoulder when we watched movies together.
I never did tell her that I had feelings for her out of the fear of rejection or of ruining what I thought we had. While part of me is happy that I didn't, because I was very emotionally unstable after having gotten out of a long term relationship only a few months before that, and I was handling it so bad that if my feelings had been reciprocated, I wouldn't have matured as a person between then and now, I still can't shake the feeling of regret that I never did, and the curiosity of what it might have led to.
It's a very depressing kind of nostalgia, when fond memories are ruined by the concept of "what if," instead of just being appreciated for what they are; just small pockets of time that should be appreciated solely for the warmth and euphoria they made you feel, and shouldn't always need to be put into perspective by rationality.
It makes me happy, but it also makes me want to punch myself in the face, and sometimes it even makes me want to die, but these wildly varying feelings almost makes me appreciate the moments even more just because of how alive it makes me feel to have so strong emotions about something in life. Regret is a hard feeling to handle, but it might make you appreciate the rest of your life more, when you have a sense of perspective of how good and bad things can be at their very extremes.
I apologise if this is depressing and edgy, but I'd like to know if I'm thinking about this right, or if my emotions are getting in the way of my rationality in an unhealthy way.

Her performance in this one is particularly wonderful, with some real emotional weight added.

Well, it's all subjective. But I think this ending can be admired the same way 'A Christmas Story' can... through its simplicity. To each their own, though.
This was really sweet at the ending, but I thought what would have made it SOOOO SWEET and as hoping would happen is when she rested her head on him thinking he was asleep, is have him then open his eyes, and smile...showing us that he wasn't even asleep, or knew she was doing that.

That would be so cute! While I admired the Critic's creativity in his rant, I hated how much he was hurting her. Her snuggling up next to him at the end was great, but your idea would have made it even better.
I dont disagree, but I think him leaving the door open at the end was supposed to represent him welcoming her back, which I think is pretty sweet too ^^

I love how they imply that his brother died a few years after this particular Christmas but then when they get the fish the adult Ralphy stares my brother never knew what happened that Christmas and doesn't until this day....well unless you resurrect him that doesn't seem like he's ever gonna find out!
A Christmas Story Christmas clears it up, he travels around the world now.
Doug may not like that Christmas Story commercial but it actually did a better job of actually looking and capturing the feel of the original film than A Christmas Story 2 did.

Seems like i'm much more concerned about the Hyper Fan Girl story arc than about the actual movie... It's so full of heart... I've watched this review once, than, to get clearer idea of Hyper/NC's story went back to Princess Diaries 2 after I watched Small Soldiers and it had a Hyper cliffhanger and now I come back to Christmas story and I'm just in love with the storyline. I know it feels like the end of her story, but i still hope deep inside that it goes on.
This video, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer and The Christmas Tree reviews are my ultimate Christmas trio, those to put me in a Christmas mood even though I hardly ever gave a shit about it before, as in my country people don't celebrate it much. Now I'm full of Christmas spirit and willing to do good stuff to people! Thanks, Doug, Tamara, Malcolm, Rob and the entire NC team. You literally made a huge impact on my life. Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Honestly, there should be a review for one of the worst movies ever (that hasn't already been reviewed) where all of the biggest names on the movie review scene get together. Think about it: Critic, Stuckmann, Jahns, AVGN, CinemaSins, Jon Bailey, Flick Pick, Schmoes, Black Nerd Comedy, all together to take it on. And in the end, they all charge a giant copy of the movie in LOTR style.

I watch this Christmas Story 2 review every year as a personal tradition.
There's only one reason to watch this movie: You wisely recognize that Vancouver, Canada is beautiful.
This is actually part 3, the real sequel to A Christmas Story is My Summer Story that came out in like 1994.
I liked that movie a lot actually. With the spinning tops, Charles Grodin, Mary Stenbergen and gravy boats... It was pretty charming.
But this is a good example of when a studio doesn't have faith in a project... I believe if the studio thought that the original A Christmas Story was going to be such a cult classic they would have we signed the original cast and put out a legitimate sequel years ago
Part of why I love Doug's character is the Nostalgia Bubble he is taking down. Take The Nightmare Before Christmas.....that movie I saw in theaters and never heard of anyone else who did aside from the neighbor girl I went with.
Now.....EVERYONE loved that movie as a child.
So....that is similar to what happened to A Christmas Story. Plus- they had a LOT to market with in that nostalgia. Lamps, pajamas- etc. When in reality- it's a decent picture. But if you say anything less then "I LOOOOOVVVEE THAT MOVIE-" it's unacceptable.

King Mojo My Summer Story is a legitimate sequel. It's by the same director as the first, based on the works of the original author, and features his same narration. It takes place after the first too. The only reason the entire cast didn't return (only about 1 person returned) because they were all too old by the time it came out.

Man I can’t tell you how long I was waiting for a part 2 to A Christmas Story, I remember that cliffhanger ending like it was yesterday, where during his sleeping Ralphie’s window blew open, letting the freezing cold into his room, next thing he knew he woke up in a different looking bedroom, then when his mother came in and told him where he was he said “Where am I really? That flat rectangular radio-like device, it didn’t exist yesterday, now I’m gonna ask you again, where am I?” Then when his mom didn’t answer he ran out of his room and around him was a new, technologically advanced city, he heard a voice behind him, which turned out to be a teenage version of Flick, and he said to him “You’ve been asleep Ralphie, for almost 9 years”
