Trent could tell us he was gonna make an album by banging on a trashcan with a rake while swinging 2 cats around in a burlap sack, and there's no doubt it would be a phenomenal album.
That description made me laugh
kool
well don't give him any ideas.
I'm sorry good sir you seem to be confused this isn't the implied artist known as Trent
Lmao
Everything in this song just sounds so pristine clear, the plucking of the instruments, the clanky acoustics, the gentleness in the singers voice... Trent really was inspired by the Ghosts album to make this band I can tell.
Nicholas Vladd Palast der Republik
Guessing you're a Neubauten Fan as well ....
Possibly the most beautifully eerie song ever written.
FACTS 🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯
I simply cannot express how incredibly and hauntingly beautiful her voice is
Rob's visual work with everything NIN related since 99 has been a major influence for me to go to university for film. I love his style of analogue mixed with glitch art.
I remember riding riding on an old mountain road with my brother with rain hitting the window while this song played it felt almost like life was perfect just for a moment
I know exactly what you mean
Beautiful. It is almost unbelievable to see the kind of things Trent Reznor is able to create, he is without any doubt one of the best contemporary musicians. Of course, Atticus Ross is great too and Mariqueen is the perfect voice that complete them.
Its so surreal to me still because I had a friend named Marqi who looked EXACTLY like Mariqueen, loved NIN and Trent, but she killed herself about 18 years ago. I remember when I first saw a photo of Mariqueen, I thought it was Marqi and I had to question reality for a bit. I hope Marqi can hear this beautiful music wherever she has moved onto. I miss that beautiful, sweet girl. 🖤
That’s awful lost several friends to suicide and the needle who grew up on nin with me, sorry for your loss
Cool
Sad, I also have lost several friends. From suicide and opiates who were all big NIN fans. God Bless your dear friend Marqi, and may she and my friends live on through this beautiful song ..R.I.P. forermore, Namaste ...;€
So sad to lose some friends, notably in these circumstances. Same for me… Recently discovered HDA, and NIN’s music was among my best cultural/cathartic ways to care myself.
Love and strength to you. Love to Marqi.
I’m sorry you lost her. My person who was killed, it was a car crash.
It's almost as if everything they're making now is a multitude of masterpieces crammed into single works. It's incredible.
Nicely put ;)
I love how an industrial group makes an acoustic song. Very original.
Should listen to The Fragile if you want a similar sound just with Trents voice.
@@lanceseaman88 maybe even better
@@lanceseaman88 nine inch nails - still
ua-cam.com/video/9i4JlnSIx2g/v-deo.html thank me later!
Still pretty electronic... the production.
This makes me feel something so indescribable.
This song is awesome! Has a Fleetwood Mac Rumors feel to it. Glad he is still interested in making music. It makes my world a little better while he is still putting stuff out there.
Nice comparison
Dude. This isn't resnor. Its a different feel.
As Trent is the only official member of NIN, he is NIN, or NIN is part of Trent, but even though NIN's music ranges from one end of spectrum to another, we can still hear him experiment with something new and that is wonderful. How many artists can go from "Pretty hate machine" downward the spiral, hold on to sanity with_teeth, finish with Year Zero, and then move on to make something like this. I can name you one, Steven Wilson. These two guys are fucking geniuses, outstanding and unmatched
Atticus has since become an official member., just fyi
@@user-ux4ft4qw6p this reply coming 9 years after the original .... :) Lotsa things change in 9 years :)
i don't know what to say, other then.. Trent's path in music, has been a profound influence in my life. Thank you! also Mariqueen Maandig is lovely!
Her voice still gives me chills. Such an a talented singer.
HTDA = Sound + Visual + Atmosphere to create a collective work of art. This isn't just music.
I think this is among the top handful of most beautiful, yet sorrowful songs I've ever heard. Talk about the ocean... I think I just cried an ocean, as I was so moved by this song. Wonderful job, Mariqueen. Wonderful. Really hearing her voice fully on this one and loving it. I hope Mariqueen and Reznor keep on working together to make more amazing pieces like this one.
2023., Nobody still can make music that balances the dark with the light quite like Trent does.
You should hear Pearl Jam's oceans
here after jimin photo-folio and now I'm staying here 😭 thanks jimin for indirectly recommend this whole album
Dont obsess over people that arent real, Those guys are personas think of it like asian gorillaz
This is one of my favorite songs. Wish they would come back
Wow..... 10 years ago. I remember being so geared up for this when this came out. Still good!
Effortless Perfection. How to Destroy Angels just hits that cord in your gut where all of your guilty pleasures get spilled on the ground and you try to pick them up, but your so wrapped up in the clarity of the hidden meanings in the lyrics you just let it become part of you.
The lyrics in this song are very very deep. I love it.
one of those music videos that really lets you appreciate the finer details of the song in a way you might not normally
I didn't like this song the first time I heard it...the second time I heard it I wanted to see the video again...then it happened I got hooked--I have now watched this video over 50 times during the last few days and I cant stop...so spooky.
I love how you can hear a bit of Trent in everything he is involved in, even though he probably tries to not have it be that way. I think he strives to do new stuff that isn't the same, and its the different-ness with the touch of familiarity that I love to hear. She has an amazing tone too.
I feel somehow strangely comforted while listening this
That's because it's NIN essence, the thread of Trent's musical heart
We all feel the cold.
Same
It feels like a lullaby.
Its the same I felt with listening to La Mer. Its comforting.
This has just became more than a favorite song. Thank you for helping me with my anxiety and feeling the worth to live.
I find it looks the same, but everything has changed
I find remembering gets harder every day
Sometimes I still believe who I pretend to be
Sometimes, well everything's exactly how it seems
I see the color of your eyes turn to gray
I feel the wind is growing colder every day
Sometimes I open up the walls and disappear
Sometimes the crashing of the waves is all I hear
Ocean, help me find a way
Ocean, wash us all away
I know that everything we did will come around
I take the thought of you and burn it to the ground
Sometimes I'm waiting for this ice age to arrive
Sometimes the hate in me is keeping me alive
Ocean, help me find a way
Ocean, wash us all away
Ocean, help me find a way
Ocean, carry us away
This is definitely my favorite HTDA track thus far. It's a stronger departure from the signature NIN sound, has good lyrics, and it shows off Mariqueen's vocals.
It also sounds suspiciously like bluegrass to me, which is one of my all time favorite genres. I'd like to hear more like this track.
Gotta check out fur lined
OH MY FUCKING LORD ive been searching for this song for 3 fucking years
Trent is so good at creating and with Atticus and Mariqueen its just next level, class.
This song has played within me for two weeks!! I'm so with it!
I digs dem clanky acoustics :3 Reminds me a bit of The Fragile.

well its trents wife, soo.....
This is beautiful!!! And so much better with headphones... His wife is just as creative as him. Its absolutely different that's for sure, and I love it. Mariqueen, if you read this, keep up the amazing work. It speaks to souls... To hell with critics which I am sure Reznor has helped you with that. This is just beautiful. Thank you for peeling back the layers
HOLY SACRED UNIVERSE! At 3:00 synth freaks will recognize it!!! THANK YOU TRENT, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Take care of it as much as you would for your wife! =8D
PPG Realizer. Unbelievable.
Somehow I missed this band when it happened... I'm blown away
Dude right!! I just discovered her like couple of days ago and I just purchased Welcome Oblivion on vinyl with bonus cd Uk import from the UK. Gosh the albums are expensive but it’s worth every penny. I have all NIN on LP with other limited edition vinyls and I for the life of me have no clue how this band got passed me??? It’s phenomenal!!!
Mr. & Mrs. Resnor.....OMG I am super impressed!
Excellent. That's why you won't hear it on the radio.
i actually like Taylor Swift
No accounting for taste, huh.I'm sure it's possible to like Taylor Swift
AND HTDA.I must admit though,if all I had was a radio I'd want to 'open up the walls and disappear' and cease to exist!
it's more for independent or emotional listening, pop music on the radio is always dance tunes that you sing with your friends.
Also might have something to do with it being 7 fucking minutes long
@@seanbaker1410 If you think 7 minutes is a long time, I pity your wife.
The music Trent is putting out with HTDA makes me smile. It's not that it's particularly upbeat or anything, but I feel like you can tell enjoys making it more.
I'll always love the music he made while he was going through the hardest of his times, but there's something to be said for a man who makes amazing music after they've passed through those times and has found what's special to them,
Thank you Trent.
Trent has always been so awesome with sound. Plus he has been through every shit part of life....by choice or just because. I love you Trent God Bless you broth3
Listening to deadmau5's remix of this song you can understand what a huge producer he is. Not talking about the absurd sound engineering, Zimmerman simply added something special to the track making it unique.
Great song. Perfect remix.
Deadmau5 is hands down the best electronic music producer of 21st century.
I second that :D
hes special
Dr.Adenoid Did you just pull a Kanye?
So beautiful...ominously sad but ...beautiful
Bows....hi Master
Perfect song from them..she's so beautiful..just stunning..I think the skys the limit or limitless possibilities.....for their music
still sensational. its all coming back to me now..
This is amazing...(and why am i only discovering it now? lol).
Better late than never. 🤘
love your channel and stories. your taste in music ain't bad either. heeheehee!!!
Haunting melody. Chilling video.
Simply brilliant!
I like how crystal clear she is in this one , she really has a wonderful voice .
Excellent in every way.
The glitchy lights in the window around 3:16 remind me of Polybius/Less Than
That's just beautiful!
Awesome stuff...I like the song!
This is sooo hypnotizing and haunting... really striking video and music, definitely sucked me in and effected me.
this song reeks of "the fragile" era mood. wont be surprised if its origin is related
In the June 3rd 2009 Mansfield NIN show (watch?v=rIsAazPVnFQ) Trent speaks briefly saying that he locked himself in a house on the ocean saying he was going to write new music but actually had the intent of committing suicide. He didn't obviously, but he did write La Mer. So yeah I absolutely agree, even if this isn't the house itself, this song and its set represents that house and that feeling.
Good senses. Back in 1998 - 1999 Reznor was talking about starting a female side project where he could finally go back to hiding behind his synthesizer instead of being the main attraction. He apparently earmarked Aaliyah as a potential candidate but between making the fragile, his addiction problems and her demise, the idea was shelved for another 10 or so years.
a great video and beautiful voice
Love love love this
Probably one of the coolest music videos I've seen in a long time. The minimalist/reductive style is in the music and the vfx. It's great to hear a track achieve heaviness without distortion and dbl kick, when this track does it the visuals really compliment it, i found it really awesome. The song is sick as. This is the best HTDA I've heard. Hope to see them tour Aus some day
best stuff i've heard in past several years...
So comforting and beautiful as a piece of music!
Pure Magick.... thanks
This is the house that Trent bought when he wanted to kill himself. He ended up writting La Mer. This song is about that dark time.
I never knew Trent wanted to die...
Oh my, luckily he changed his mind
Also I'm pretty sure it's Trent at 5:26. I've seen this dog in other pics before, and that haircut, you can't miss it.
Really? And you know this how?
@@thenineinchnailer5674 hell's yeah son U ever heard nine inch nails
Haunting. It seeps into my soul.
Great playlist
absolutely everything about this is beautiful
Love this song. It stands on it's own outside the shadow of NIN. Mariqueen's voice is beautiful and fleshes out the song nicely.I like the stillness of the video.
It was past two in the morning and I was in a self-loathing trance - hypnotized by that bleak and endless stretch of frozen highway. When I heard the first notes of this tune, I eased up on the gas... and then the lyrics glued themselves to my brain and I realized - this song was written for me.
Now how the f**k, did anyone else know how I felt? 🤔
It is time for a new beginning, the sleeping giant stirs
Loving the new material...always the case with these guys.
this is so amazing
Great song. I love the directions Trent has taken us this past decade. Mariqueen's voice is perfect here as well. Thankfully Trent's a good enough producer/writer to not overshadow her performances but to enhance them with his trademark feel. That being said ... I want a new NIN album sometime too!
Wow, that imagery is so disturbing. It literally turns into a nightmare
Love it! this is a song that starts very quite and soft, and then goes growing till the last second. Just great...!
that was a journey and a half. gorgeous work of art.
Sleazy gave his blessing to Trent to use “How to Destroy Angels”. Sleazy passed into the ether of the night before he could work on the music Trent sent him on an iPad.
Perfect song. Perfect band.
This song is comforting but also so uneasy. Like walking on a familiar beach only to look down and find small critters burrowing into the sand under your feet. They won’t hurt you but once you know they’re there you can never fully relax again.
I love this. The singers voice is beautiful. Looking forward to hearing more from them :)
when I watch this video I can't stop thinking that it was inspired by Reznor's time spent in some cottage by the sea while writing The Fragile (so I've heard)
+nathanel1313 the only song he finished was la mer.... he was in a drug fueled suicidal depression
The imagery is very distressing, as the synth swells after the second chorus. Great work.
My favorite song from the EP has a pretty awesome video. I love the simplicity of this video and the lighting! Mariqueen has great vocals on this song and the band plays great. Thanks for making great music!
chills, good job trent
Thank you HTDA for being my 420 partners and giving me something to wander off into my own world through your songs.
I personally love both Trent and deadmau5, deadmau5 in my opinion is one the few electronic music producers that actually put an artistic meaning to what their music is and represent and it is not just a bunch of random sounds... both the original and the remix version of this song are great but I see some of you hating the fact that deadmau5 touched this, believe me it is 10000 times better that it was touched by deadmau5 and not just a ramdom producer out there... Joel actually is a big fan of Nine Inch Nails
that's not deadmau5 though
@@user-yw9ys3dz7x he's talking about the deadmau5 remix not this one.
Ahhhhhh yes deadmau the electronic music plagiariser...
@@t8283287 ?XD
Amazing. The delicate details of this song moved me to tears...
You guys are a perfect collaboration.
what's the instrument is Mr. Reznor using in this video/song please?! anyone has any idea? As seen in the video...
It's a PPG Realizer. One of the rarest synthesizers in the world. Only two were made in the 80's, and I heard Trent may possibly have the only functioning unit. Some crazy software synth developer really needs to talk Wolfgang Palm into providing details and source code to enable replication of a modern virtual version of it.
tnx for your time to reply, but if I'm not mistaken, that's the equipment Mr. Rob Sheridan is using though, not Mr. Trent Reznor...
El PavliTo an autoharp or some other type of zither
For some weird reason the background music is making my ass shake in my seat while the vocals is making my upper body sway
The song and the video are amazing. They pair perfectly together, enhancing the quality of the work as a whole. Perfect.
Very nicely done. Bravo!!
This sounds like a real good walking dead-esque song.
Trent and his wife kick ass! XD
this video is soooo John Hillcoat, love it
Radical, unique, inspiring work of art! Love this song!!!
how plucky strings and industrial music work so well together is beyond me🐇
Damn...this is the kind of track that just takes ya away
So eerie and beautiful. 🖤
great song !
Sounds like a NIN ghosts song
Did you not see Trent Reznor in the back?
yeah I know, I'm just saying it sounds like it's on ghosts
A lot of his side project music has more of the ghost sound to it I mean listen to his sound track work they almost all sound like songs from the ghost cd and I like that.
you can tell reznor did the music.
lol oh wow...nice reaction. intelligent and well thought out. geeez, what a moron.
You can feel his feel
Your technology and musical genuis are beyond me. Thanks for all the music.
Beautiful voice!!!
