As a matter of fact, he lost a lot of his virtuosity, we Brazilians have known kiko for thousand yers, today hes kind a half what he was before.

@@snardash_1197 The kind of power metal that he used to play is not something you can do without practicing full time, is basically like playing classical music in an electric guitar with distortion. Virtuoso guitar playing is basically one of the main staples of power metal. In megadeth he's using just a fraction of his former skills. The style of the music is just very different, from the technical standpoint is just much simpler.

"You are playing a lot, but you are not practicing enough". That's exactly what I did for 15 years, with poor results. After a 10 years hiatus, I took again the guitar two years ago, but this time, I practice seriously and get results. But it took me 25 years to figure out how to practice like you do. Young people, if you want to become good, listen to Kiko's advices!!

Just came here to say that I relate so much to this. Stopped for 7 years cause I was frustrated with no progress and thinking I could self-teach myself. Picked it back up two months ago, started propper lessons, and set up a practice routine and already I'm seeing more progress than those first 7 years lol practice practice practice

  • @ericoschmitt

I actually use that same kind of practice for cello and classical music. I call it “additive method”.
It works on every instrument, I’ve used on flute and sax before. Break down bars into beats. Another way is to group notes per position. Practice fragment A up to speed, then B. Practice the connection between A to B, and if that involves a position shift, practice the shift alone (or the end of a fragment connected to the beginning of the next). Then finally practice A+B. Proceed to learn C, put B and C together. The ABC. Then learn D. Then CD. Then BCD. Then you have one bar. Then learn another one bar, join both together...
Yet another good trick is to learn songs from the end and go backwards, instead of starting from the beginning. This way when you play you will be more comfortable towards the end, and this helps you avoiding tension build up during performance.
With time and patience you will have the whole piece.
Another piece of information is that your fragments don’t have to be all the same size. There are blocks that are easy and you can just learn them as a whole. Or sometimes there will be several technical difficulties in just a few notes and you need to learn note by note. I try to “take bites of a size I can chew”.
Finally: take breaks, never practice over one hour without stopping a few minutes. And alternate between different pieces and exercises within that time so you don’t get stressed. You won’t build that whole lick at full speed on the first practice session! There’s no point in torturing yourself. At best you will be able to play the whole lick slowly, or small fragments at full speed. The brain needs rest, pauses, and SLEEP to learn!

First , you put your Tagina away, I known you since early days Bro and watching You playing with an Ibanez, it’s weird, because getting used to a different axe changes your game and guitar writing too. Second, fatherhood is a tough assignment and most important overall. Third, you are Kiko Loureiro, An overachiever and talented virtuoso who masters 6 guitar string, there’s few around your level when it comes to technique, composition, and creativity. Parabens Kiko!! Of course, Kiko has to do it some five times a week and play for about some 5 hours, at least, I feel.. On tour, he may have to do it even more often, given that he plays damn challenging songs! Love this tutorial....You are quite right Kiko, the other day I was practicing some Maiden´s bass stuff and,as a mother, I don´t have same time to practice as my son does...So most of times, in the urgency and need and anxiety of playing...I pick my bass and play on the flight, to say, with him..But in the end I have kinda sour feeling because I know I didn' t do my best---
But some time ago, I began to make some kind of practicing, by putting the song into peaces and trying to learn each in detail m as you are showing here to us..
And that is the best way, because I've found you not only are training muscle memory, grat for ear training, as well, and...learning the song practically by heart , which is for me the main difficulty I have...And it really works!!
Either for bass , for guitar or whatever, this is a great way and method really!
    Thanks a lot...!

That's probably because Angra became a progressive symphonic metal band rather than just a power metal band. They have so many different sounds, instruments, and time signatures to be only considered a typical power metal band.

What is really funny is that, before seeing this, I exactly followed the same path today, working on this solo , and beginning really slowly from 100 bpm to 150bpm. I was also thought that I practice less and less for I have 3 kids 😁. It’s like this video is exactly the story of my day ...
