  • I thought it might be cool to show the before and after videos of upgrading the Snare pad on this kit. To me, it is absolutely worth the upgrade. Way more fun to play and the feel is outstanding compared to the original pad. I used the kit to trigger Addictive Drums 2 inside of Pro Tools for the audio.

    Hi there, thanks for sharing. How did you set the new pad up? The module (at least mine), only come with PDX6 or PDX8 as options for a snare pad. Did you choose one of those or had to use a different configuration ? Thanks again.

    • @Bearvswolf
      @Bearvswolf  5 років тому +4

      Hey Sergio,
      I set it to PDX8. My best guess to why there is no PDX100 setting is that the PDX100 did not exist yet when these modules came out but that is a total shot in the dark. Maybe there is a firmware update for them? But I have never connected it to a computer to check. Seems to work just fine on the PDX8 setting though. I also fiddled with the sensitivity settings a little bit and that made all the pads much more responsive and made them react more like real drums to me.

    • @Bearvswolf

      The Pad settings changes were the biggest help for me.
      I chose for Snare:
      Curve - Exp1
      Scan Time - 2.0ms
      Retrig Cancel - 4
      Mask Time - 4ms
      Xtalk Cancel - 20%
      Rim Gain - 1.1
      Threshold - 2
      I Chose for Toms:
      Exp 1, 1.6ms, 3, 8ms, Xtalk 65%, Threshold 12.
      The curve setting makes the pads react differently based on how hard you hit them. So it changes the dynamics. The Threshold is how hard you have to hit the drums to make them trigger. On my kit I still have the original pads for the toms and those setting needed to be set much differently. I had a lot of problems with the toms triggering when I would hit cymbals etc. so I put the Xtalk cancel really high (65%). They also need to be hit harder to make them act like real drums so the threshold went to 12 for me. I am still tweaking but these were much better than the stock settings for me and I think the drums play much more musically and dynamically if you are used to the feel of real drums. Thanks for watching

I think the TD4 module is amazing and I really just need to upgrade the pads and some of the chrome to be a happy drummer again. Wish there were more information on which pads work and stuff. Hi BearVsWolf, thank you so much for the great video. It convinced me to finally get me a PDX 100 myself today for my 4 year old TD-4KP.
    BtW, as I read in another comment, you chose the PD8 setting, the manual of the PDX 100 recommends the following settings for the TD-4/TD-9:
    - Trig Type: PD105
    - Sensitivity: 7
    - Rim Gain: 1.8
    - Rim Adjust: 2.5
    I'm getting good results with AD Drums 2 so far, unfortunately not so good ones yet with Superior Drummer 2.
    Also the behaviour of the TD4-KP Module Sounds is not satisfying yet, Cross Stick is not working. Maybe a Factory Reset will help.
    What AD2 Kit are you using in the video? It sounds great, and nice playing!

      Thanks to the PDX-100 I prefer Addictive Drums now over EZdrummer2, because the transitions from Snare to Rimshots are much more smooth and natural to play. (except for the EZX UK Pop Kit which works also very well with the PDX-100).

    • @Bearvswolf

      Mrluchendo I think any of them would work. I just wanted the biggest one and the one that would respond and use cross sticks. I think the 8/6 would be fine. Like i said i just wanted the size. It doesnt take much to setup. Just unplug the old pad and plug in the new one. I needed a new piece of hardware to mount it correctly so you may want to look into that bracket.

    Hi - do you know if you can add another pad to the TD4KP ? I heard that it may be possible but would need to change the main cable that goes into the brain to accommodate another pad . Interested to get your thoughts, thank you

    • @Bearvswolf
      @Bearvswolf  3 роки тому

      Ill start by saying I do not know. But if you can then I would say the same. The main cable would probably need to be replaced. I dont see why the brain would not be capable of producing another sound. The main cable breaks out to all the jacks for the pads. So it would make sense you need to change it to add another jack.

      If I had to pick a set from this module its probably number 1. But in this video I am actually triggering the sounds from addictive drums 2. If you have a computer to do so with the sounds will crush anything in the roland modules. Superior drummer, addictive drums etc are all way better sounds.

      @BearVsWolf That great. To be honest I don't know how to do that but will look into it. I've had the drum kit awhile as purchased for my 9 year old son. Just bought a pdx100 and pdx8, used on ebay to try as snare. Will probably use the pdx100 as snare and start replacing the Tom's with pdx8's. Roland don't seem to do clamps though for the td4 Tom mount positions as the metal horizon rack isn't 1.5 inch. Looking into universal clamps.
