    I sold my wa73 and later bought a BAE 1073 and noticed a difference in detail . For the money the wa73 isn’t far off and I actually enjoyed it. Might buy it again honestly

    Great video, as per usual! I have a Wa273-eq and a Wa412 that I absolutely love. Thanks Barry.

    Thanks for the demo Barry. Sounds good! I use the Drawmer 1974 and 1976 saturator together for some projects. The independent width on each band on the 1976 is fantastic. I also run the SPL Vitalizer Mk2 (Hardware) which takes a lot of getting used to but it sounds amazing. The stereo width is just beautiful.

    Nice job on this video. I like seeing knobs being turned in real time and more importantly actually being able to hear the difference vs one's ears thinking they do hear it...even with the YT compression. I have the same WA-73EQ and happy with it and as you say, good bang for the buck. Cool to see how others use and apply hardware/software in their studios. I don't typically use the EQ when tracking with the 73EQ. There are so many good EQ options for mixing I haven't really used the 73's EQ section there as I like the Pultec Tube better, both UA plugin and Warm Audio EQP-WA hardware version. Try this, take the output of the 73EQ and feed it through the Pultec with the EQ off and see if just running thru the tube on the Pultec adds any positive color. I swear I can hear it but it may be a placebo affect :)

    These are really great preamps. Compared them to some BAE preamps I had and couldn't really tell the difference.

    That Tele cutting board looks awesome! I jumped onto Etsy to buy but it looks like you don't ship to Australia, which is a pity. Oh well - good luck with the venture. Oh, and thanks for the run down on the WA-73 EQ capability. I am waiting for mine to arrive since I ordered it a couple of days ago from a local reseller.

    Have you tried the Behringer clones of the Neve gear? I've heard a few people say things like the knobs/rings are back to front and pop off. Also higher noise floor.

    Wish it weren't so, as the Warm stuff sounds awesome for the price, but the quality control and durability on their stuff has been very poor for me.

    What happened when you turned the hipass filter off? it seems it turned on...I'm confused, it was supposed to recover the low end, not cut it...i'm I right?

    • @BarryJohns
      @BarryJohns  3 дні тому

      Adding a hi pass to a compressor will retain the low end and even emphasize it, on a EQ, it removes the frequencies below it.

    • @NoelFernandes
      @NoelFernandes 2 дні тому

      @@BarryJohns Yes I got this, but, what I meant was, when you switched the hipass filter to "off" position, it sounded like it was turned "on" in a very agressive way, like the switch conection was inverted. When U put it in the OFF position, the bass should be kicking all the way in, and that's not what happened. It actually did the opposite. That's what I meant

      @@BarryJohns Cool. I’m a Digital Performer guy, but it’s always good to be conversant in another DAW. I also have Logic, Cubase and Pro Tools and there was a lot I liked about Cubase, but I thought “Well, if Barry’s gonna go back to the dark side (haha!) maybe I’ll adopt Pro Tools as my backup?” One of the factors is I recently bought a used Avid S3 on eBay. I’m really into the EUCON protocol since having an Artist Mix + Control setup. Obviously, the integration between Pro Tools and EUCON surfaces like the S3 is very complete and deep. Really love the S3. Built like a tank and used prices have dropped like a rock since they announced end of support 12/31/2026. I paid $2k for a mint used unit and I’m seeing prices go even lower.

      @@BarryJohns I forgot to mention: the only downside is even though I have a perpetual license, I’m not crazy about getting dinged for $199 once-a-year like clockwork by Avid. Sure. I guess I could let support lapse, but uneasy now about whether they might pull the subscription only thing sometime in the future should they feel that the climate has changed and they can pull it off. Waves sure as hell backed away in a hurry when they tried it, but I suspect Waves *still* wants to go there someday and is biding their time. Avid might be doing the same thing.
