Wonderful. But guess what, there is something even better. You just need to open your eyes and learn some new things. Unless you prefer to stick in your old ways. PHEVs are just gas cars with a little bit of ev stuck in. A frankenstein if you will. A compromise for multiple things. Rather than having the best of the best with one thing. Kind of obvious if it did not occur to you. We own 2 Tesla evs. over 140k miles. No gas for 5 years and no maintenance. You still have a gas car, plus an ev crammed in to the same body. Less space as a result. More problems, more complicated. You have 2 cars worth of parts and complication. Is that better? I think a 5 year old would understand why that is not a good thing. BTW, we can drive all over the country, in winter, in summer, does not matter. The fact is our car is going to handle better, be better in the snow due to the physics, balance etc. Our evs are also the safest cars ever tested; not even close.

      2. NJ residents do not have to pay sales tax on full BEVs. That state assesses the standard 6.625% sales tax on vehicle purchases. On an average-priced new vehicle ($48000) that's a tax savings of $3180. If you use the $290 figure, that's 11 years of registration fees.

In San Diego, it’s about $0.64/Kwh if you include the transmission fee from home. Yes, it’s the most expensive electricity in the country. I haven’t seen the supercharger rates here, but it’s more for sure. So Model 3 is about $48 to fill from empty at your house and SDG&E is raising the rates even more this year. About $15.36 per 100 miles on flat ground. My mom’s old 2006 CRV gets about 20mpg combined so that’s about $24.95 per 100 miles on $4.95/gal gas. So you pay slightly higher energy fees with no range anxiety if you stick with ICE. Maintenance is the one key advantage until you figure out that you are going through tires like crazy in an EV. They also want to institute a per-mile charge here to make up for the loss in gas tax revenue and already charge you a higher annual registration fee for an EV over ICE to recoup lost gas tax revenue. EV is a scam inside California to control how and when you can drive. The rich early adopters got cheap mileage and government kickbacks while the poor are going to struggle trying to find a way to charge these things and deal with the government finding a way into you car’s driving data. It’s getting crazy in CA so I’m not sticking around for this and many other reasons. EVs are not ready for mass consumption or mandates. They are a great second car for the upper middle class, so let’s just give up on the mandates already and let the market decide.

If you are grandfathered into getting paid for what you sell back to the power company, you still have to pay the transmission fees. Solar is only the answer if you can afford the entire self-contained system for around $75-$100k. It’s a rich person’s playground. Can you do it cheaper than a Power Wall, yes, but it’s a large task for the common homeowner and batteries are not the easiest thing to maintain if they see daily use and how the weather is affecting ambient temperature. It’s more than a common man can do without help these days from a professional that knows how to manage power banks.

The amount of depreciation after just a couple years is totally unacceptable and it's destroying any brand loyalty. However the manufacturers don't seem to care. They should be guaranteeing residual values to keep customers happy.

5:54 One factor that most analyses of EV depreciation fails to account for the fact that the prices for EVs in 2022 was absurdly high. However since then prices have declined to a more reasonable level which for those who purchased at the peak have experienced the dramatic decline. A factor that could inhibit this could be the continued innovation with new battery technologies that could make older EVs less desirable or even obsolete.

I genuinely considered an EV… I currently have a 2007 Lexus LS460L. I can easily go 500 miles on one tank of fuel. It takes minutes to fill up. I recently went to Oklahoma from California and back. It took 23 hours with only stops for fuel and food each way. Could you imagine how much time that would have added if I had an EV? I’ve gone from California to Washington, California to South Dakota etc. I only get so much vacation time every year, I don’t want to add days to a trip because I have to charge my car. I even recently went on a trip to the sequoia national forest in California. The hotel I stayed at in the park was literally ran on a diesel generator. There was no EV charging there. I just don’t think EV’s fit every lifestyle. Additionally, my car has nearly 200,000 miles. Maybe a delicately cared for battery could last that long but I doubt it. So I’d most likely have spent money to replace the battery by this point in time. Also, my commute used to be 180 miles a day, sometimes I visit and check in with my grandparents, making my total miles driven in one day over 300 miles. That means I’d have to charge my car on top of commuting and visiting family, I’m tired, I wanna go home and relax. Also my household has 4 cars, 2 park on the street, where would they charge? As for a used EV, how do I know the exact health and state of the battery? It could be good today and be bad tomorrow.

An EV doesn't sound like it's for you. Really what people need is consumer choice. The biggest benifit of an EV is cheap electricity at home, and always waking up with ~250 miles. If that isn't suitable, then EV infrastructure isn't there yet. It will be. One day. But not now. Till then, I will say now that on average the batteries outlast the cars (or have been the case for about 10 years now) which I think is cool, but makes sense if you think that all manufacturers warranty a battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles which is more than you'll ever get for a combustion car. As someone that used to own a gas car and switched to electric about 10 years ago, I would never go back, technology is always improving. And one day a consistent 500 mile EV will be possible. It costs too much right now though. But as I say, one day.

Just last week the Biden administration gave Microsoft, a company worth $3 trillion, $3.3 billion to build infrastructure in the U.S., under the ruse that the subsidy would provide thousands of American jobs. Why doesn't Microsoft use their own trillions they made through illegal monopolies to fund their own infrastructure and provide jobs? What happened to capitalism? EV charging networks can never be economic. Just apply a little bit of common sense. Firstly they are space inefficient due to the long refueling time, which limits where you can put them at sufficient scale to have an attendant guarding them from vandalism and generating the extra revenue from the convenience store. A refueling convenience store can not be profitable in the same small space as it can with gas refueling due to the much lower throughput of customers. Also fast charging power loads requires trunk grid connections which simply do not exist everywhere, else as more vehicles charge simultaneously the available power drops and all vehicles charge slower. Tesla is subsidized by selling carbon credits, which is just government redistribution. IOW an uneconomic, failure-directed paradigm.

People forget that the best gas station for EVs, is actually at home.
As for EV charging out and about, the biggest issue with charging is that you've got to have a network that's avaliable, cheap, and fast. Even with a developing charging network, I've only had a problem once with charging in the time I've been driving an EV. And as for electric infrastructure, if you really believe we can't build new shit then idk what you think we do. 40 years ago electrical infrastructure couldn't support the amount of people we have today, what did we do? We built bigger systems.

That’s why you lease if you’re unsure. I traded in my 22 awd pilot for a 24 Nissan Ariya engage+ eforce. Best thing I’ve ever done. No gas, I have solar and home charger. I wake up with a full battery, most of the time I don’t even need to charge for a few days. The pilot was plagued with problems strut need to be replaced at 5k miles. replaced the rack & pinion because they thought that was the problem, which wasn’t the problem…. The problem was some frame bolts under the vehicle weren’t tightened which was causing clunking/popping noise. On top of that the engine/transmission had some weird sound when the vehicle is first started that day…… I was so over oil changes, differential fluid changes. Engine air filter changes, then at 100,000 it would cost 2,800 for Honda 100,000 miles service. The pilot had 28,000 miles, every day I was worried what would break next.
It’s not for everyone. I like to have different cars every 2-3 years so leasing is perfect for me. Plus it kills negative equity that you may owe on current vehicle. I truly feel like combustion engines are a thing of the past after getting out of an ev into fossil fuel. That’s just MY opinion.

Charging concerns? Charging concerns will be the least of your problems when your EV catches on fire a few months after its been in a small accident. Or high about those intense burning flames from the EV batteries? God forbid if you get into a significant accident and you find yourself injured and stuck in one of those things. Say no to EVs! There's nothing wrong with hybrids.

Gas cars are much more likely to catch fire. Ivonne EVs 5 1/2 years, it's nice

People don't want things that don't exist we can't buy things that aren't available, we could be driving cars with steel dashboards no seat belts and no airbags or crumple zones

I have a nice garage ready to host an EV minivan (or Sienna prime) when one is available. I'd love the convenience of having vehicle to load (bidirectional charging) in the infrequent circumstances when our power goes out. I would also be happy to replace my commuter car with an EV, but the 2004 Toyota Camry is still going strong.

I drove my ICE to California in 2020 from east coast and became surrounded by EVs. I thought about buying an EV but my closest family is farther than the ranges of anything affordable. Plus my suv is manual so nothing new can replace it.

Loving this dropping of EV values. Looking forward to upgrading from my Bolt to an actually NICE EV in a year or so. Thinking the RZ450 of EV6 GT will be a great step up. I have other gas cars if I need them. Family car is a 2018 top spec Atlas, it does great!
