Quite a chilling song, "he stands towering over me beside my bed, losing his head..." But she's beyond caring anymore, "...no more pain where there was pain before..." Then the absolute cruncher, "... he's wrapped up in the warm and safe cocoon of an eternal lie, so should I laugh or cry?..." The song is so full of anxiety, it's quite scary 🙏

@@SusanaXpeace2u right! "safe cocoon of eternal lie". that is exactly what i thought: a song about living with a narcissist. Also the song Cassandra could have something to do with that. Before narcissism and gaslighting became a thing on the internet there was something called "the cassandra syndrome" in alternative psychology. Somebody in Abba must have experienced that.?!! Bjorn wrote the lyrics. his parent? or Frida's ex husband (before benny) father of her child?

  • @ingvarjensen1088

Of an eternal LIE, not LIFE! Has to rhyme with "cry", you know 😉 He (the husband) is just a boring guy who think he's a gift to this world - that's what the song is all about. The wife just wonders what life turned her husband into. Should she laugh or cry about him?

ABBA's version of deadpan humour with a twist in the story & the ending (the marching band music) let's us know it's a joke - nicely done ✅.

wow what a jump from early light pop ABBA from 1973/1974 to the depths of 1981. This was only a B-Side to the first single releases of the time and never on the original album release of The Visitors. Actually it's one of my favorite tracks of that 1981 era... alongside the album track, When Al Is Said And Done and One Of Us..... what a pity it was not album track. Would gladly exchange it for Two For The Price Of One instead... but that's what they decided back then. Love Frida's vocals. Again a different approach.

This song so should have been on the original 'The Visitors' album. A lot of ABBA 'break up' songs are full of either heartbreak/anguish or stoic acceptance. In this one, the couple haven't even split but the narrator has rapidly fallen out of love with their partner. The lyrics and the way they are sung are so bitter and mocking. I like the lines 'He's dressed in the striped pyjamas that I bought.......Trousers too short'. Yeeouch.

a big hello to you, dear Marissa and Tyler, and thank you for your commitment to ABBA and reacting to all their songs
"Should I Laugh or Cry" (1981)
was the B-side of the single "One of us"
and it was not included in the album "The Visitors"
My personal taste differs from most general comments
For me it is a nice and acceptable song, but no more than 6 or 7 pts
I even think the chorus is weaker than the verses sung by Frida
Even so, I consider that it should have been included in the album "The Visitors"
And I also differ on whether or not it is one of the best B-side of ABBA
Making the clarification beforehand that ABBA's singles (and their B-sides) have varied a lot depending on the different countries where they were released,
and taking as a general parameter the singles released in the UK (the main objective of ABBA),
and excluding live versions (such as "Take a chance on me")
without a doubt the best is
    "I've been waiting for you",
the B-side of "So long" (1974)
    followed by
    "That's me",
the B-side of "Dancing Queen" (1976)
    and "The Visitors"
the B-side of "Head over heels" (1982)
But that's the beauty of ABBA, their songs are from good to excellent (except for a few weak songs), and what some of us like less, others like more, and you learn by reading because everyone likes a song more particular

B&B didn't like it much. They felt the chorus didn't match the verses. It was like two different songs that didn't really gel together. Still better than the horrible Two For The Price of One which made it on the album.

@Marvin Quezada I suppose they think the chorus didn't naturally grow out from the verses. That they had no real organic connection. For them it was like the verses of Money Money Money tagged with the chorus of name Of The Game. They just don't gel as a cohesive singular unit.

Hi I would really appreciate it if you would react to, From Here to Entity by The Fizz, formally known as Bucks Fizz The Fizz - From Here To Eternity (Official Video).
Below is a little history of the group and singer.
Bucks Fizz star Jay Aston has endured a hellish ordeal over the last few years.
The singer, who rose to fame when the British band won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with 'Making Your Mind Up', has suffered from her own agonising health battles.
Jay was diagnosed with mouth cancer in June 2018, had a gruelling seven-hour operation to remove a section of her tongue and then had it rebuilt using part of her thigh.
They recorder this track on the day Jay was diagnosed with cancer which make it very emotional.
Jay has recovered and is still touring with the group they just played a sell out concert at the 02 arena in London 43 years after winning the Eurovision.
Also please check out, The Fizz Live At The Water Rats
They have a big catalogue of hits, let me know if you would like more suggestions from the fizz.
