  • On May 4th, 2024, New Mexico Heritage Rail once again brought out their massive steam locomotive, former Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe #2926, for another publicity stunt running from their restoration site on 8th Street in Albuquerque, NM up to the Tractor Brewery on 4th Street, offering cab tours and souvenirs to any visitors. After about 4 hours the big Northern slowly moved back to its restoration site. This is the first of several outings the society plans to do other events and outings with the behemoth of a locomotive promoting their cause and hopefully gaining state government support for funding to cover costs for actual mainline trips.
Check out my friends who joined me on this fantastic journey!

I encourage everyone to support New Mexico Heritage Rail, because even though they aren't able to run 2926 on the mainline yet, their events are still great and they have lots of other projects they need to work on. And when this 4-8-4 pulls her first mainline excursion, it will be one of if not the biggest steam events of the year that it happens!

We should be thankful that 2926 is still operating at all. ^^
Cause man... it will help for those that want to see her operate beyond Albuquerque though. ;)

I love this locomotive, I can't wait to see 2926 in person this June, Im such a huge ATSF fan and I gotta see this, and one day I'll be the engineer of 2926 in the future right when I become a railroader for Cumbers and Toltec Scenic Railroad.

I hope the 2926 and 3751 can get together to do a doubleheader just once if possible. That'd be beautiful.

Heh... wanna know what I think would be the best place for those two to do the doubleheader at? :3

I mean after all... 3751 has been there twice in the 21st century (aka 2002 and 2012) and one of the 2926's sister locomotives has operated on that line back during the steam era on the Santa Fe. :)

@@maxwellwalcher6420 what future is there for main line steam in the USA? Aside from UP it seems to be pretty much dead.
