      Seeing that there are (relatively) lots of 4-8-4s in excursion service now, why is a Santa Fe 4-8-4 better for mainline excursion service than a Santa Fe 2-10-4?

    Adept engineer knows how to run his engine nice and easy; NO wheel slips! Plus, he's quite the musician. Now lessie is BNSF will break out one of the Frisco (that BN took over) steamers here in Missouri. Thank you NMHR.

    I wish U.P. would let our SP 2472 run on the mainline San Francisco to San Jose. But a bunch of sissies and tightwads. I had the thrill of operating her in the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard in the early 90's. Her 6 chime whistle is pure heaven!

    Great vid Thank you… What a magnificent engine. Truly an icon from the past and her spectacular whistle sound echoing all around yes she stretched her legs a little which those who worked on her for all those years dreamed off and am sure a little trepidation in case something went wrong but she was magnificent in her splendour!! Can’t wait to see her at speed.
    Now coming from Ireland we have few locos which either steam or diesel which can match her or the BNSF diesel splendour on show. I don’t have a great love for diesel engines but for nostalgic reasons I love the US ones because in the 40,/50s they sped across the plains of the USA and it maybe a Hollywood scenario but I don’t think so, of small towns in the 50,s at Christmas, Main Street snow covered as kids went into brightly lit shops looking at much more sophisticated toys that we had ( not that my parents could afford them lol) but it’s just a nostalgic sense of that time that I love so I do enjoy seeing the older diesels as well as the new ones all gleaming on show, but nothing can beat the “living machine” which is a steam engine

    If you can't get BNSF to let you run the locomotive on their track, I would reach out to local class 3 and 2 railroads since they might be a little more open. Really want to see this engine cruising at 80mph+ on the mainline like she was built for. Great video.

    Someone here asked in the comments section what was the most difficult part of 2926's restoration. My answer to that question, based on my many years of following this restoration, would be just about 'everything'! Clearly without the many hours of volunteer/professional hours of service and organization 2926's return to the rails would have never happened, Congratulations all!

    • @atsf2926
      @atsf2926  10 місяців тому +3

      Thats a very good question. It's hard for me to say because I wasn't there but I did read about it. out of all of the restoration it was probably be the boiler overhaul everything from each of the 272-flue tubed, piece of superheater tubing and each stay bolt had to be completely overhauled. so, a long process of removing the flues redoing them then than putting them back and welding the flue sheet back together began over the next couple years which finished with testing the boiler to 500 psi.

    • @atsf2926
      @atsf2926  10 місяців тому +1

      I said "two separate railroad companies" unless I said it another time in the video that im not remembering. There are only three railroad companies that joined this event us the NMHR, amtrak and BNSF. in 1995 BN bought the entirety of the ATSF and then merged BN and ATSF in 1996. The Burlington and Northern and Santa fe railway was born and in 2005 they shortened their name to BNSF. So im gunna call them bnsf. Because santa fe hasn't been a separate railroad for atleast 20 years now. And I don't wanna confuse people in the video on the side of the locomotive it says BNSF not santa fe

    A little constructive criticizm here and please know that this is purely from my own personal taste. Leave the music off. It's a great video. It would have been nice to listen to the sounds of 2926 without having to discern them from the music. Again, excellent video quality, excellent camera work, etc. Just could've done without the music.

    • @atsf2926
      @atsf2926  9 місяців тому

      I understand that but I think its simply a clash of taste because how the video is how i like it, I can understand thats not for everybody. However I spend alot of time to make sure you can hear the locomotive when it sounds the best and when the engine makes little to no noise the music steps forward and takes the stage.
