The beer is actually named after Johannes Aventinus, a Bavarian Renaissance humanist historian and philologist in the 16th century (the guy on the label).
This makes a lot more sense, and yet somehow when throwing the name Aventinus in to Wikipedia it never offered it up as an option! Thanks for the correction though, much appreciated!
