The kobyz is an ancient Kazakh string instrument. It has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goatleather. According to legends, the kobyz and its music could banish evil spirits, sickness and death. And imitate animal voices of the Kazakhstan steppe.

The Kobyz is a modern day instrument that is very much played in Kazakh music right now, it does however have a 5,000 year history. Dimash always uses traditional Kazach instruments in his music. The voiceover and the song are in Dimash's mother tongue Kazakh, he is very, very proud of his culture and heritage. Dimash may not be really burning but that piano is actually on fire for real 🔥

Thank you for your reaction. Dimash did this video early in 2020 amid Covid-19. It’s very symbolic all through the video. The main parts is the fire. When things are tempered they become stronger. The piano player falling into the river dying represents the two teachers and mentors of his that passed away from COVID. This is a prayer for his country and the world to get better. Notice the muted colors until the end when colors come forth bringing hope to the world.

This was Dimash's first attempt at directing. He co-directed with another person, but I bet Dimash approved all final takes. Dimash is singing in his home language, Kazakh and the scenes are in his country Kazakhstan.
