  • We have now installed a 240 Volt microwave oven in place of our Dometic Tec Tower gas oven in our Motorhome.
    The logic was as follows.
The gas oven gives you the ability to use an oven 'Off Grid' but for us that was the only Pro.
However. We rarely camp where there is no electric hook up. (shore power). And in two years have used the oven twice. Its too high for my wife to easily use, compounded by height of the wire shelves inside. Its noisy despite my best efforts. Its not very efficient and consumes a lot of LPG during its very slow cook. We carry metal baking trays and roasting tins with us specifically for the oven and then dont use them.
As long as we are on a mains hook up, the Microwave is far more convenient. Uses electricity we are already paying for, has no rattles or bangs. Its interior is lower and easier to load at head height. .........

To achieve this instalation you have to remove the Oven element from the Tec tower. Cap off the gas supply to the oven. Fit a 240 Volt mains socket behind the microwave. Mount the oven while ensuring good ventilation. And alter the Oven Apperture to look right with a smaller oven.

Hi John, what a great little project buddy. It has turned out really well and looks as though it could have been an option from the factory, top job mate.

A finer point of tube cutting using this method if intended for flared fittings is to remove the work-hardened portion of each end prior to flaring to avoid radial cracking. I went around the bend a long time ago...😂😂🤣🤣

Great tip Gary. Or you can temper the ends with a blow lamp and a quick quench.

@@ToTheGarage With copper, you can. We use aluminum pipe in aviation and annealing doesn't really work, so we have to remove the last 1/16" and smooth out prior to flaring.
