- My excitement and memories I had with my 3DS as a kid are upheld by Nintendo's brilliant ideas it had with the system. Nintendo's StreetPass Mii Plaza was one of the greatest home apps that any console could ever come with. But with not much news about it, I was wondering What Happened to Nintendo's StreetPass Mii Plaza?

When I was younger, I remember carrying around my 2DS on sleep mode and excitedly checking for the green light. It’s ridiculous to think that literally hundreds of people carried around their 3DS consoles even in 2017… I miss it
I agree, sadly as I got older I stopped caring for the 3DS, but NOW that I'm much older, I want to experience all these things I did with my 3DS as a kid!
@@Nichslvl same .. Last person(I was VERY surprised ) that i met with street pass was in my school but 9 Months ago(June 2021). That was crazy!!! I thinked that nobody really takes its 3ds with it

My original 3ds I lost, but I still carry my 2ds
I took mine to school after I saw my freind with his and got his tag in May 2022
I once passed someone, where it straight up showed their favourite app being the homebrew channel, and their mii just stood there, holding the homebrew channel icon. Amazing.

Wow! I used to love StreetPass and Mii Plaza! We live in a house on a busy road and me and my kids used to love that we catch passing-by people just by sitting in our living room :) and it was pretty sad, when one day we realised that even having our 3ds's with us walking around the city didn't bring us any points for our garden. Flowers stopped mixing and didn't produce any new kinds, no more people with new geolocations, and all other little things that we loved ❤ sad Switch doesn't have this function
I always love reading or hearing such simple memories from others when it comes to things such as video games! Relating to something so small such as streetpass is such a nice feeling, I really wish the switch did have something like it!
I want the Switch to have Streetpass Mii Plaza or I will be really sad!

@@ryleyoconnor8010 First of all, the Switch doesn't have an integrated step-tracking device, which are for Play Coins. AND the switch doesn't even have lights on it, it only has light through the right joy-con, which only shines blue and is mainly used for Ring Fit Adventure. Which is rendering StreetPass Mii Plaza a no-go. Miiverse is obviously never coming back. Modders are still finding a way to bring this back.
@@Khentendo1337 you could have a notification show up on the home screen when you turn it on
and for the step counter you could have it so if the joycon shakes a little bit (not when its shaken a lot to prevent people cheeseing it) you get closer to getting a play coin
We need somebody really famous to promote StreetPass to get that same level of engagement again. StreetPass was such a great feature!
Don't worry, soon I'll be the big enough to encourage everyone to start carrying their 3DS around EVERYWHERE! ...it's just gotta be before March 2023 sadly :(

I didn’t realize they added all these streetpass games later on. Really miss it though. Was pretty sad when they didn’t include it on the switch. I wonder why.
To be honest I totally forgot about the addition of all the new games, but it showed how much Nintendo still wanted it to push the experience with it!

I really miss this feature. Seeing that green light always put a surprised smile on my face...sucks that it's rarer than a blue moon now :(
It's crazy the feelings that many of us all share with such a simple feature, I really do wish there could be a huge traffic source to push everyone to carrys their 3DS everywhere again!
I got a Streetpass from someone other than "me on my other 3ds" a few months ago. It was wild tbh.

I agree! When I experienced this on a road trip I don't think my parents ever heard the end of it until after the trip was over!
I remember, i went outside with my 3DS every day with the hope of finding someone on street pass, one day i stopped doing this and lost my hope, the next day i entered the bus and saw 3 people playing on 3DS.

Yep... I had so much fun and so many memories with this little game, especially on road trips. It takes me way back. Was such a cool and fun feature, I'd open Streetpass Mii Plaza almost everytime I'd see that light on my 3DS. Ahhh the nostalgia. :') It sure is a shame there's no such thing in the Switch.
Nintendo truly did miss out on a huge opportunity to bring something like this to the switch! Even something like Miiverse would have been cool!
@@Nichslvl it truly would have, the switch is super lacking on social features and that's quite disappointing considering that the previous DS, Wii U, and 3DS all had some way to make friends and actually talk to them somehow, wether it be miiverse, Wii U chat, Pictochat, friendslist, status message, etc. In some ways the Switch has moved backwards when you factor all that. It can just feel so lonely at times.

Great video! It is unfortunate that the majority of people prefer power than charm. I’ve actually spent over 6 full days in NYC over the course of 5 months in as many places as I could get to without a single tag. But, I did get one as I passed by a school in NJ, so that proves that it is still possible!

Crazy how times changed. Back in the day, I used to live in NYC and I would go to malls and outlets EVERY weekend. Sometimes in on weekdays too. We talkin Palisades Mall, Paramus Park, Woodbury Outlets, you name it! And BOY did I get crazy amount of Miis on my doorstep. There so many. I think I had over 500 Miis chillin in my plaza. Greeting everyone at the gate made me so happy knowing that there other gamers out there like me. Also, Streetpass was a marketing tool in disguise cuz you could see what other players were playing, and seeing which title was the buzz convinced me to buy other games and expand my palate for other gaming genres and series. Truly great times!☺️
I remember I took my 3ds to Disneyland back in 2012 and was excited to get so many Streetpass tags in one place. I have to give Nintendo props for making such a simple yet unique and amazing feature.
Mine always maxed out so quick lol. I always took it to disneyland too.

Sigh…. I remember back then like 7-4 years ago I would actually get a decent amount of streetpasses. I was so happy when I got a lot, I even got some random guy from japan once. I miss when the 3ds light flashed green, and I would get excited. Nowadays if my 3DS flashes green I would start jumping up and down as if it were a miracle. Honestly miss so much….
I really wish I would've been able to experience traveling to a different country with my 3DS! I honestly miss it so much as well, having the free time I do now, I'd probably just go on StreetPass trips just to kill time!
I still carry around my 3ds during the day and sometimes still get a street pass! Seeing this video was also a good reminder to get all the street pass games I haven't bought yet
I got a 2ds about a year ago. Since then I've found 2 streetpasses which isn't much but I'm glad I actually found some
oh no i watched this video and just started crying in nostalgia tears due to having a lot of fun taking my 3DS on family trips and collecting those Mii passes to beat monsters and Gouls in that one streetpass game. same with Pokémon Rumble and Shuffle. making me all sad at how much we took it for granted now that the eShop will be shutting down soon.
I used to go to Disneyland so much and my streetpass was loaded. It makes me sad that this feature is slowly being forgotten
I guess I’m carrying my 2Ds with me wherever I go lol. Fr though, I feel like the Switch has a lot of missing features that we all loved from past consoles, so I think things like Streetpass should be back!
I got my 2Ds when I was REALLY young so I didn’t really understand how Streepass worked (or anything on the 2Ds for that matter-) but I have a few memories of me taking out my 2Ds while I was out with my family and met a few Mii’s on Mii Plaza. I didn’t know they were real people, but hey I found out later xD
Man this makes me remember what having a 3ds way back felt like. It was just so fun. That little green light always got me excited!
I did StreetPass with someone at my school who also brought their 3DS but still, so rare, it is shocking.
When I got my 2DS 8 years ago, I was still in elementary school and my parents made the choice to put a parental control, so I wouldn't access the Internet. Of course, they lost the password to time and I was never able to go on the StreetPass.... still to this day

Sadly I just got back into the 3DS two years ago. I had lost mine for a long while and never got to experience all the streetpass points. Which would explain why certain challenges in the app seemed impossible. But the extra games are actually quite fun.
Omg I loved street pass as a child. I loved passing people everytime I went out into town as a 12 year old and logging onto to animal crossing to snoop at other peoples houses!
I was lucky enough to go on summer roadtrips across the US and I got StreetPasses from so many states with a few from other countries! So proud to call that a huge part of my childhood
Wow I used to do the StreetPass I used to bring my 3DS on long car trips and I would get excited when it flashed green. One of the memories was getting some street pass in high school

I really miss all the little things like Streetpass that the 3DS had built-in. You could own one without any games and still have a great time with the preloaded software. I remember taking my 3DS literally everywhere, getting streetpass tags at school, on hiking trails, etc. It really helped build a sense of community in the portable gaming world at the time. The Switch is an incredible console, but it's largely devoid of the personality and detail the 3DS had.
I feel like the 3ds will gain popularity due to nostalgia and joy con drift

Great video! I remember taking my 3DS around everywhere I went and how I would get hundreds of passes from airports, hotels, and other places that I passed by during holidays. I tried that again in Sydney recently and I got around 10-15 passes which is quite impressive for 2022 but I assume the recent E-shop news and Nostalgia is the main reason why there are more people on their 3DS now.
I really miss those times when I had more freedom and time to do that stuff...
Both me and my sister have a 3DS, and we still carry them around in hope of finding others wherever we might go. There are three other students at our school which also have a 3DS system, as I have tagged them before. Hopefully I will get a StreetPass outside of my home area someday, maybe... And someone that isn't my sister or schoolmate.

After seeing that flashing green light on the right side of my 3DS, I felt nostalgic for it and excited to see what kind of Mii I would get. It was very facinating.
I remember being so happy when my plaza hit 1000 visitors, only for my 3DS to stop working a week or two later. I was heartbroken as I had hundreds of hours on Streetpass Mii Plaza, it was so damn good man
I’ve never been súper fan of handhelds but there’s two of them that I really love, the GBAsp and the 3DS. Specially the latter. I had so much fun with my 3DS, I used to take my 2 daughters to McDonald’s for breakfast and streetpass, we would get so existed when we finish a region of when Reggie or Iwatta pop up on our streetpass plaza. I took my older daughter to the Legend of Zelda concert in Minneapolis, Minnesota and that was amazing, not only for the concert it self but because all the streetpass we got that night. It was awesome. Some other day there was a Streetpass meetups at the mall of America and I convinced my wife to take the trip to Minnesota (6hours from my home) to do that and enjoy the mall. I did so many videos in my channel related to the 3DS. I really enjoyed this video and make me nostalgic for those glorious days of the 3DS era.
Bro I used to have a 3ds and had no idea how to work street pass, I just liked going into the mii plaza and playing around. I wish I had know how it worked back then
I loved mii plaza streetpass, and even in a pretty not well known place, still managed to get a green light, I always carried around my 3DS everywhere making rack up a lot of those coins were if you walk 100 steps, you get one coin, I loved find mii but never completed the game sadly, and then there was some error with wifi connection and I didn't know how to fix, so I couldn't go on mii plaza, still was big part of my childhood!
I didn't get too far of my hometown often, so I didn't have the means to get puzzle pieces super quickly.
I grinded play-coins by moving the 3DS while watching TV from time to time, so at least I could get all the blue pieces pretty consistently.
But it wasn't until 2019 when I collected the final purple piece I was missing.
The scary part is that I can count the amount of streetpass tags I got after that with my fingers, so I got everything at the very end of it all.
my cousin who lives about 10 minutes away from me has an entire friend group, each with a 3ds. these things can never die
God I miss streetpassing people so much, was always a fun thing I could do on the side with my 3ds. It really motivated me to start going outside to all these cool places (before the whole Pokemon GO craze) and I loved seeing all these people near me that had 3dses and were enjoying the same games I was. I remember I used to always check my streetpass plaza every single day when I was picking up my little brother from school since a lot of kids there had 2dses, so I'd always get tons of hits. (That's also how I filled out a lot of my streetpass map because the school had a few transfer/exchange students.)
Recently I started getting nostalgic about streetpass and wondered if anyone near me still carried around 3dses. Despite me living in a relatively small area, there is a huge retro/vintage collecting scene where I live. And since the 3ds is now highly desirable, I felt like the odds of me running into someone else with a 3ds were pretty high. So I dug out my old childhood 3ds that was in extremely rough shape, and started experimenting by carrying it around with me again and taking it to different places.
Didn't really have much success at first but after a few weeks of trying, during my usual evening walk, I glanced down at my pocket and saw the green light again for the first time in almost 5 years. I was honestly surprised that I was able to find someone via streetpass again after all these years. I've also been seeing a lot more posts on reddit lately of people receiving streetpasses, so I feel like streetpass might've been experiencing a resurgence over these past few weeks.
I'm probably gonna keep carrying around my 3ds for streetpass for a while, mostly because I never got to finish all the puzzles (and I want to do that before 3dses eventually start failing) but also because it's just always fun to see a new person pop up on my 3ds. Reminds me of much simpler times when I didn't have to worry about that much. Thanks for the amazing high-quality video. You just earned a new sub.

Dang, I miss this so much! I used to have around 1000 Miis in my Mii Plaza solely due to Mario Kart 7 Online Multiplayer games and airports.

I remember when I carried my 2ds to my school and in one spot of a playground all sudden I got over 54 streetpasses thingys and i got so excited one by one I met every single mii I gotten from the streetpass, it was cool !!

It is my dream to complete every puzzle. I still carry around my 3ds and spend all of my coins on pieces, but I'm missing pink ones. Without other people that have them it will never be possible.

I totally agree. I miss streetpass so much. But when I commented about it once people heckled and said it’s a thing of the past. But I would take my switch everywhere if there was streetpass Mii plaza.

bruh. in 2015, i had the brand new 3ds XL. it was $300!!! Loved that thing. It’s somewhere buried in my house now under my nintendo switch box..
Remember back in 2013 I would just go with my parents at the shopping centre and would get 10 miis and even more sometimes

when i was younger both me and my brother had 2ds's so we were eachother's most common streetpass hits lol (though i have managed to streetpass a few times with strangers who also played tomodachi life before whenever i brought my 2ds to school because i had tomodachi life lol)

I remember the first time I got a street pass. I had my 3DS for like 1 or 2 months. My mom took me to McDonald's and I brought the 3DS with me in the hopes of getting a street pass. I was not disappointed as I got like 5 of them.
i remember in 2020 i was waiting for my sis to finish up some shopping while i was sitting in my car with my 3DS since its all i brung with me (I still use it to this day)
You cant imagine my face when i saw i got a streetpass when a car passed in front, after that i went and played some of the SP minigmaes and also got a ghost data for MK7, such a good time i got there

Same, it's kinda like what happened with the most recent Animal Crossing, a lot of great content was held back and sadly many players had already had their fun with the game

i still remember the national streetpass weekend promos in the news section on the 3DS in 2014. i would drive to a nearby mcdonalds with my 3DS just to get streetpass tags for mii plaza and opponents data in fire emblem awakening, such good times 😭😭😭
The home screen jingle and main theme makes me so damn nostalgic :( Since not a lot of people in my area had a 3ds, I would get so excited when I found someone!
I miss this so much. I know nobody carries there a 3DS with them anymore and tell me that sucks. In the Mii Plaza for the puzzles I have some that will never be complete now. I was a little late to get my 3DS due to never having money.
Last time I got someone on street pass was earlier this year at a ski mountain and I was so unbelievably happy. Probably the last time I’ll ever get one though
I miss getting tags so much. I recently went to a retro gaming con and I actually got a bunch. I still keep mine in sleep mode in my bags in hope that i get someone. I did get one last year from someone at target and someone at my school but it's not common. I remember bringing my 2ds to high school with me and I would get tags all the time in 2015-17.
I remember going on a trip to California in 2018 and bringing my 3ds with me and I got streetpass around 4 times and one person was from the territory Anguilla! Too bad it's much rarer now

I miss streetpass. I sometimes think of going back to my mii plaza to see all of the miis again. I don't remember even getting a new StreetPass Mii for about the past 4 years which is kinda sad, as not many people use their 3ds anymore. At one point I thought my 3ds's StreetPass broke because I stopped getting new Miis in my Plaza lol
They should add a sort of streetpass feature to the Switch, I'd love to see it!
god! I loved the racing mii game I remember they gave you a choice between battleground Z and slotcar rivals for free! I seriously miss taking my Nintendo 3DS to a game store and getting 2-5 miis from the display 3DS's
I remember the mini plaza and when nobody ever used it I would just wait in the me plaza waiting until somebody joined from street pass

I remember sitting in bed one day last year, and I randomly got a certain green glowing light on my 3ds.
I went to several anime and gaming conventions back when the 3DS was at its height, and I'd get hundreds of Street Passes from each one. I completed a ton of puzzles and beat Find Mii twice. (For anyone who hasn't played Find Mii, it takes a LONG time to beat.)
Sadly, my 3ds was stolen. Although I was able to transfer my Nintendo ID to a new system, all my digital save files were gone. That included my Mii Plaza data. Losing that definitely hurt the most. I replayed most of my other digitally downloaded games and got back the progress I had lost. But I will never be able to get back what I had in the Mii Plaza.
I reset my childhood 3DS so all of my passes are gone... but I had 30 or 40 or so...
StreetPass was amazing...
For anybody interested I would recommend looking up street pass 2, it’s not the same as walking around but you will still be able to play the street pass games without other people.
Nintendo 3DS was one of the best if not the best nintendo machine to ever exist

StreetPass is always gonna be amazing. I have thousands on my plaza and communication with other users with the games you have is amazing. I have only had 3 new StreetPasses in the past 2 years. Sad.

yes!!! i love streetpass, it made the 3ds so exciting and encouraged me to get up and go places (more than stuff like pokemon go or pikmin bloom ever did). it's so baffling to me that they don't have anything like it for the switch. I don't think they realized how much it added! The switch has no social functions like this, and it feels so boring and dead lol. i think streetpass was the perfect balance between having nothing, and having something as unregulated as miiverse. social and exciting, but not too crazy or dangerous for little kids.

streetpass is legitimately one of my favorite things in all of gaming and it was a huge part of my childhood. streetpass is pretty much the perfect “social media” for kids if you can call it that. and adults loved it too! also nothing else is like it, we don’t have it on phones or anything, at least on a mainstream level. *sigh*, i can only pray that nintendo adds it as an update to the switch perhaps when the next iteration drops or on their next mainline console.
I'm still thinking about this feature, because of Tomodachi Life. I wish to see a convention dedicated to this specific feature that allows us to exchange Mii's. I would love to see it and experience it because I want to send my Tomodachi Life travelers into someone else's Tomodachi Life game.
(This feature needs to be used more. Bring out your Nintendo 3DS, 2DS or other into the streets again!)
Me and a couple of my friends brought our 3DS’s and 2DS’s to our school this year and it is really fun

I remember that, at some point, I had an idea. I Because every time I pass trough a specific point I always had a full ten. So the idea I came in mind with that that point had some kind of streetpass gathering. And would always give you ten mii's. Later I realized that was the whole Hotspot thing. There was even a website to tell where those hotspots where.
Fuck is miss this, I remember the first thing I checked when the swithc was annouced was if it would have Miiplaza again.

I saw this thumbnail and was immediately hit with nostalgia of walking around with my 3ds playing find mii or whatever it was called and walking around to see the minigames I knew my parents wouldn't let me buy. yeah, those days were fun.. i wish we could have them back :) EDIT: i just watched this vid and i was so happy when he said it was still running, now i have the constent urge to play it 😂😀

I don't understand why Streetpass wasn't brought back for the switch. It's literally the coolest idea any video game company has ever come up with
