Great series of videos!! I have a JD400 with a front end loader that I will be working on. This series gives great information on a full rebuild. I don't think I will be doing a full restore on my machine as the engine runs good... but hey, you never know. Thanks for doing the series, keep up the great work. :)

Thank you very much Stephen. Once you have your FEL done, you'll have a beautiful setup! A John Deere 400 is capable of lifting around 350lbs or possibly more, depending on the setup.
That is my goal, to rebuild every aspect of this garden tractor so I have a fully functional JD400. There is not always a need to restore, but possibly rebuild and that is why I am sharing these videos. If your engine is running strong there is no need to have it rebuilt! Thank you once again, I sure will. Cheers

Thank you Jake! I appreciate your kind words!! I enjoy the process more than the numbers to be honest. At the end of the day, I would love to help as many enthusiasts as I can so these machines stay around for another 50+ years. Best regards

Great resource, thankyou.. question: My 3 pint hitch has a crossbar for towing, but if there is weight in the rear of towed cart the entire hitch will move up, I can lower with lever controls but it will not stay.. maybe that just the way the hitch works?

Thank you for tuning in Larry and thank you for your inquiry! That is correct, the rock-shaft for the lift mechanism is slotted (This is where your lift-cylinder activates up against the rockshaft). Since it has a slot, it will allow the 3 point hitch to lift up to a certain height and then stop. If you would like to stop this from happening, you could place a teflon block in that area to stop this from happening. If you this happens to you far too often, you could always alter the rockshaft in that area for a secure operation.
I hope this helps you a little bit and maybe you'll have a great solution for this! Thanks again for your question. Regards Andreas

Beautiful work! Not a single part left untouched, really looks better than factory 👍 Do you by chance have a factory 400 deck? I know those are tough to come by.

Thank you very much! That is correct, every part has been modified and mechnically this tractor will be like new again. The only attachment that I have for this JD400 is a rear mounted rototiller on the 3 point hitch. Attachments for the JD400 are not that easy to find, as they do not fit 420's or 430's! Sometimes they pop-up here and there on the internet, but it's not very common.

You dont have any info on the internals of the steering valve do you? The plunger on mine wont push all the way in. Wasnt sure if it can be pulled out. Or i may just hit it with the BFH

Hello Daniel, that is probably one of the only components I did not take apart on this tractor. I have a link to drawings of this hydraulic power steering control valve: bit.ly/3Qt0o8O
There is a snap ring that will need to be removed in order to disassemble this. I hope this help you out and if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask! Regards -Andreas
