The fact that this song appears in Kiwami indicates that Kiryu canonically sang this during the events of Y1, when Nishiki is still alive. This is truly heartbreaking: despite the fact that Akira Nishikiyama was still alive at this point, Kiryu is already missing him and mourning his passing like he is a deceased person, because to Kiryu, the good bro Nishiki from Y0 is already long dead, and the cunning merciless monster he is butting heads with is completely unrecognizable.
It's worse if you read the translated lyrics. Kiryu appears to still be hopeful that one day they will be friends again and everything will be just "funny stories".
This song is also in Kiwami 2, and the feel when doing karaoke in that game is way sadder, because you know Nishiki's long dead at that time and Kiryu was mourning him when sing the song.
The first Yakuza game I played was 0, and then Kiwami after that. And let me tell you, having that starting point for this series, and having seen this song until AFTER I beat Kiwami, this song is so utterly heart crushing. Poor Kiryu. Poor Nishiki, to an extent.

I only wanted to come here to say I got yakuza Kiwami yesterday (started with Y0) and I just got the ability to sing some karaoke so I was stoked. I chose this song and didn’t expect the fucking heartbreak that came with it
I read a comment before saying that in Yakuza 6’s version of the song, Kiryu had pretty much remembered Nishiki as the brother he grew up with rather than the monster he was in Kiwami.

even if Nishiki did betray Kiryu, he still cared about him deep down. his last act was to protect Kiryu's life and to take responsibility for his actions. playing Yakuza 0 made his moment of redemption/death much harder of a hit to sustain. you grow attached to a character when you see more of them in another entry and know what's coming for them.
I remember crying in tears having to fight nishki as the final boss, with the flashbacks to Y0. I actually died several times to him so having to focus was really heartbreaking. And then the cutscene after was just blinding me with tears.

I honestly doubt Nishiki would die against that assassin. Nishiki was able to trade hands with Majima, despite him losing, Nishiki didn't go down without a fight. I honestly think Kiryu would visit Nishiki in Jail sometimes and try to use his influence when he started his own family to give Nishiki a helping hand around prison. Kiryu only got like i don't know 1 or 2 assassination attempts so i think Nishiki should be able to survive.

2 weeks ago I started playing Kiwami and was wondering why Kiryu didn't had Judgement song in the karaoke, since I loved playing that Today I finished Kiwami and now I see why

Ever since I got my hands on Y1 for the first time, Nishiki is one of very few villains whom I sympathize with far more than any heroes. Far more than Kiryu, that's for sure.
Props to you being able to finish this song perfect. It is still my lowest score because the background scenes are too sad and distracting. I had played Kiwami RIGHT after playing Yakuza 0. I had zero clue how far Nishiki will fall so when all this came rushing in, the emotions were too great. It still is too hard to complete this song without choking bc of how sad this is. Maybe I'm a soft-f*ck, not a true Yakuza lol, but despite these being fictional characters, the emotions are far too real. Sega, for all their faults, made some seriously heart wrenching scenes and stories.

2 weeks ago I started playing Kiwami and was wondering why Kiryu didn't had Judgement song in the karaoke, since I loved playing that
Today I finished Kiwami and now I see why
10 years in jail what was he thinking about going back to see his friends and family just to find out his brother betrayed him his father shot by his brother and killed later by shimano and his best friend shinji and reina killed by his brother and finally his brother killed himself by shooting the bomb causing yumi to die and kiryu was left with a new daughter haruka and a new friend majima
Ever since I got my hands on Y1 for the first time, Nishiki is one of very few villains whom I sympathize with far more than any heroes. Far more than Kiryu, that's for sure.

Props to you being able to finish this song perfect. It is still my lowest score because the background scenes are too sad and distracting. I had played Kiwami RIGHT after playing Yakuza 0. I had zero clue how far Nishiki will fall so when all this came rushing in, the emotions were too great. It still is too hard to complete this song without choking bc of how sad this is. Maybe I'm a soft-f*ck, not a true Yakuza lol, but despite these being fictional characters, the emotions are far too real. Sega, for all their faults, made some seriously heart wrenching scenes and stories.
Playing this song the first time in yakuza 6 hits different😭😭
