On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of Chicago IL on 8-11-22.
We're looking at a 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge in Carousel Red Paint. The car comes with the factory 400 CI V8 “Ram Air III” engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Ted Christo. Ted’s had this car since 1995. He shares he met people from a movie called “The Last Ride” and they shared they would restore his car for free if he allows them to use the car for the promotional tour of the movie. He agreed, and he shares how he’s “blessed”. I agree!. This car looks and drives showroom new.
ENJOY!

Mr. Lowe, you are respectful and wonderful in your choices. We want to communicate with you to buy some cars. I wish you success
Okay Lou, I liked this one 😉 I'm curious, so hidden headlights were an option this car didn't have? Also, the a/c. I couldn't help but notice the control head looks like it's from one of those aftermarket places like Nostalgic Air instead of GM. I couldn't catch the paperwork in the video either. Is this a factory air car? Thanks for the video btw - excellent as always.
Wow, this guy really won the lottery with this car! Great car, great guy, wonderful story. Thanks Lou.
Hi David, Happy to share this "wonderful story? with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
This is my dream car. I saw an advertisement for it when I was twelve years old while "inspecting" one of my dads' Playboy magazines! Lol! Love the '69 GTO Judge! I just wish I had that issue of Playboy magazine - for the articles of course!😂
Hi ROXSTARCorvette, Happy to read "This is my dream car" :-) Lou
@@loucostabile Thank you Lou! Great series BTW!
These are cars you don't see every day. The Pontiac GTO Judge is a true muscle car in the days that cars were still cool, and performed well. That Carousel Red paint job is superb, and the engine sounds healthy with a true cam lope. This car is a real beauty. Lucky you, Lou! You got to drive this classic!
Hi Michael, Happy to share this "true muscle car" with you :-) I enjoy driving this one, Lucky Lou
It sounds like it was upgraded with a ram air IV cam over the ram air III but I could be wrong.
Exactly!🫵🤣
...
I have seen some Judges in my day, but I wonder how many are actually numbers-matching and how many are replicas or fakes.
NICE!!!! My uncle had a 1969 GTO Judge. He bought it new in 1969 after doing two tours in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968. I remember it was one sweet car!!!!
Hi Brenda S., Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Great looking Judge ! I miss my'69 Judge. Mine was Mayfair Maize Light Yellow. Foolishly sold it... Bought it in 1977 my senior year in High School. Paid $850.00 for it. Those were the days.... Thanks for posing Lou !
Hi Rudy, Happy to read you had one too! NICE! My pleasure sharing this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
Thank you, Ted and Lou, for taking us along for the ride. Wow, she is a beauty!
Hi Chris, My pleasure sharing this car with you. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Should have a 4 speed not automatic. I loved my 65 GOAT 389 four speed. Hooker Headers 3 carburetors. Never lost a race at the track or the street..
Wow, what a beautiful GTO!
This really brings street credibly to “here comes the Judge”.
The fact that the car got its name from a TV show is unusual but I have to admit, it really works.
Great episode Lou! Thanks for bringing this classic to us.
Hi Jeff, "This really brings street credibly to “here comes the Judge”. I agree. Great car, and happy to be able to drive and share this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
1969...a great year for American automobiles. This one is totally awesome 👌
Happy to read "This is totally awesome" :-)
I remember an “Adam-12” episode with Malloy and Reed, in the old Plymouth Satellite police car, being in a 10-100 with a GTO Judge.
Hi Donald, Thanks for sharing that TV trivia , Lou
Amazing car brought back to the only way it should be done....totally Pontiac factory. As usual, your video is perfectly done. You let the owner tell his story with it and ask all the right questions. Well done Lou. Super restoration too.
Hi Joe, Happy to read you enjoy this Pontiac that looks showroom new, and maybe a bit better :-) Appreciate your kind words on the questions I asked. Lou
Normally I would agree, but a rear sway bar makes cornering so much easier and trim rings on the wheels look nicer, imo, as well.
I was skeptical of this video's title. But I must admit, this Judge certainly looks good enough to be God's car. Spectacular.
Hi River Blue Vert, Happy to read "Spectacular" :-) Lou
What an incredible story on the restoration of God's & Ted's GTO Judge! Thanks, Lou.

Hi Jeffery, High praise :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're right, I'll have to check that box off the list. You're welcome, Lou
I remember when Pontiac advertised these. It started with Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In. Here come’da Judge was one of the comedy bits.
Hi Dave, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the TV show :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I love that intro where you FLOORED it! Well maybe you didn't because if you did you'd end up on Jupiter before you could say "This thing has too much powah!"
Jokes aside, they weren't playing around when designing this car, that's for sure. In an era that cars were colorful and sleek, this car somehow shone over the rest with an even sleeker and unique paint job, innovative front end design, and enough power for you to bulldoze an Oak... An Oak forest.
But I love this video for going deeper into the details of this masterpiece. There are many little things that Pontiac was thoughtful to add in that most folks overlook. I appreciate this in-depth look into this beautiful car. So thank you, Lou!
Hi Staticky Cat, Happy to read you enjoy the details of this "masterpiece" :-) You're welcome, Lou
"Here come da judge" and it's beautiful. I thought the singing cardinal was in my front yard till I paused the video lol.
Hi David, Happy to read this one is beautiful :-) Regarding the cardinal...NICE! Lou
In 1972 I bought a 69 Judge Carousel Red 4 speed Ram Air lll ALL ORIGINAL with 49,000 miles from the original owner for $1250 - The car was like new. I was 16 1/2 in High School, my 1st car. To this day I am remembered for THAT CAR ! The performance was hard to beat. The UNDER RATED 366 HP from the factory was for Insurance reasons. The Actual HP was well into the low 400's - I would abuse the car to the end - coming out of the hole at 3600 rpms in 2nd gear (F70 Tires) and leave 500 + feet of a posi black strips and a crazy smoke show. Car ended up with a blown motor and sold off for cheap. Stupid Teenager ? YUP - Current ride is a 69 Cutlass Cloned 442 Convertible 4 speed 455 (White with Black)

I still remember the 1968 Judge TV commercial with the guy smacking the front enduro bumper with a sledge hammer without leaving a mark. They probably used a sponge hammer. 😂 Just think what that GTO would be worth if it were a 4 speed.
Hi John, Happy to read you remember that commercial too :-) 4 speed is great too, Lou
Great vid, love the Judge!! 😍
NICE! I love the Judge too :-)
@@loucostabile 👍👍
Lou, I enjoy your reviews...but I must say, this is the BEST one I've seen for a long time. This car is unforgettable!!
High praise Dwayne :-)
Holy cow! Manual idle spec is 1000 RPM!!
When I was a kid in the mid 1970s, my neighbor had a Carousal Red '69 GTO, but it wasn't a Judge. I don't remember if it was a 4 speed or automatic, buckets or bench, but it did have a set of Cragar SS wheels with big rubber in the back.
When I was older, I always wondered if it was a Judge, but I found a picture in our family photo album, with that car in the background, and it was not a Judge.
Hi Dan, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your neighbors car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Those RA 3 cams don't like to idle below 850. I got one in my 69 Custom S with 428 but mine's a 700R4 automatic.
@@jackmehoff4613 Looks like this GTO has an automatic with overdrive too. They showed the shifter.

Hi Brian, Happy to read you enjoy this Judge :-) My pleasure starting off Friday in the right direction!, Lou
Fantastic restoration of this GTO Judge, a true muscle car that looks and goes really well. ❤
Hi Derek, High praise for this restoration, Lou
This Judge looks perfect inside & out. And your right, from the cradle to a ring tone, it sounds awesome, too! Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read this car "looks perfect" :-) You're welcome, Lou
TV and cars were greatly intertwined in those days and associated with good clean fun.☝😩
You're right.
I admit I have an eclectic taste when it comes to cars, I am partial to the 59 GM cars (I have an El Camino) but the 69 GTO Judge is also a big favorite of mine. I have seen different colors on a Judge but the Carousel Red is what makes the Judge special and 69 was the best looking year. Amazing car Ted!!
Happy to read this car is a favorite of yours Jeffrey :-)
Ted's huge smile in the opening was just priceless! Thanks Lou!
Nice :-) You're welcome Brian SD.
0:30 @Lou - gotta dig the fact that the guy GETS ON IT! Fantastic car sir - and an amazing video - have a great Friday sir!
@Peter - "gotta dig the fact that the guy GETS ON IT!" I agree :-) What this one was made for. Wishing you a great Friday too, Lou
Corrections: Call that bumper Endura, not Enduro. The paint finishes in the engine compartment were all refinished in gloss, not the original colors or gloss levels. And the shiny tailpipe extensions were put on upside-down, a very common restoration mistake. But look how accurately that spoiler fits the rear dimensions of the car. This is a very NICE car!

The choices of the gloss in the engine compartment were mine. I know exactly how they were supposed to be just like the firewall was supposed to be a flat matte finish and I chose to make them gloss. Also I did it because the car was so unique I wanted it different, also the tail pipes are not correct by choice. Also, it was not a error. That’s always done when they are being restored. I turned them down because when they’re turned up all moisture goes under the bumper and under the deck lid, so these were not mistakes made because of knowledge they were choices made by me just thought I’d let you know, but thank you
Great video Lou! You did a super job presenting all the little details about what makes the car a Judge and what makes it so special.

Happy to read you had a 1970 GTO :-)
Very nice 😀
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car is "Very nice" :-) Lou
Saludos cordiales!
Hi Jaime, "simply mesmerizing!" Well said :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
Amazing car and back story. One of my childhood favorites.
Happy to read this is a "childhood favorite" of yours :-)
Thanks Lou. Ted and youself have treated us to a very cool look-see and spin in one of the best all time factory muscle machines , the amazing 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge with Ram Air. All the best stuff and color combinations; this is the one! Big thanks 👍
Hi Bruce H., High praise :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Man oh man...I used the Bureau of Labor inflation calc - that car was under $30K in today's dollars...that is an amazing value that we'll never see again.

High praise for this car and story :-)
Awesome car! My favorite years of the GTO are 1968-69. Incredible car and story!
Happy to read you enjoy this "Awesome car!" :-)
It is beautiful. A work of mechanical art! Nice job Lou!! I had factory air in my 72 Cutlass too. Never used it once. Those belts always got removed... I always thought The Judge would have looked better with trim rings on the wheels... What do you think?
Hi Ron, Happy to read you appreciate this "work of mechanical art!" :-) Glad to read you had a fun Cutlass too. I think trim rings would look good. Lou
When I was a young, a lot of people/hacks would take the whole compressor out, usually cutting the metal pressure and suction lines near the HVAC case.
@@DanEBoyd cut down on weight as well as power loss. Brilliant! I like it...
@@PDingenen65 True, but if it was me, I'd just remove the compressor, lines, and dryer, by unbolting and unthreading them, so that they can be put back in the car and made to work again.
Wanted one since I was nine in 1969.
Hi Dann, Hope you're behind the wheel of the right one for you soon, Lou
Beautiful '69 GTO. First time I've ever seen anyone use the shoulder belt! Safety First...
Hi Stephen, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) I like the looks too, Lou
Great video; congratulations on 4 years of dedicated work on this beauty. Listening to this story, I appreciate my Judge even more. I bought it off the showroom floor of Bennett Motors in Great Falls, Mt. on 4/4/69 for $4182.34. I take it to car shows in Montana and thus far, after many shows, I have not seen another one. According to Dick Bennett, the owner of the dealership, Montana received just 4 69 Judges.
Hi William, Happy to read you have a Judge too. Original Owner! You have a great story too. If you see me at a car show, make sure to say hello, and show me your car! Lou
Here comes da Judge! Here comes da Judge! OH YEAH! All 'Laugh In' references aside - this Judge rules, brother! The engine bay is so clean you can eat off it! But I wouldn't recommend it. Ted might object and slam down his gavel. His gavel's name no doubt is called, The Jury! 😁 This GTO Judge is beautiful and best of all - rumbles like a boss! Excellent feature, Lou!!! 👍😎👍 (his notation of it being God's car - I love it!)
Hi ImTheDaveman, Good to see you're back! Glad to read you think this Judge rules too :-) Lou
Very cool car. I always loved that color. If I lived back in 69 and had $4,000 bucks I would probably buy this car over all the other options back then. Such an iconic car.
Hi Garrison, Happy to read you enjoy this "Very cool car" :-) Lou
Sometime late 68 or early 69, me and a couple of Glenbard West HS buddies went to the local Pontiac dealer in DuPage Co. Illinois to see the new 69 GTO. We took Bruce Leslie's 68 GTO (his dad's). In the showroom was a new 69 Orbit Orange Judge with a 4 speed. It's hard to describe the impact that car had on the three of us, in the context of those times. GM sure as hell held all the cards. Bruce was green with envy and went silent all the way home.
Hi Daniel, Thank you for sharing your story, Lou
Bruce really had nothing to be envious of as he went in the predicessor.
Man what a beauty! 👌🥰👉♥️definitely my all time favorite Pontiac! The Judge!

Just an amazing work of art, absolutely flawless!! Lucky man to be able drive a time capsule!!! Id get a static adhesion laminate for the trunk sticker, something that will protect the sticker, but will only adhere with static!! But its like at what point do you ever drive it like a regular car..or just retire it forever to a museum!?
Hi Joseph, Hight praise :-) My pleasure sharing this "work of art' with you, Lou
Well iam a Pontiac enthusiast through an through, I was born in back seat of a green 70 gto judge, my uncle raced his 69 liberty blue gto at local race tracks when I was a kid in early mud 80s in Pittsburgh an Ohio areas, he won lots of trophy and even raced my dad in his 70 judge, boy that's a crazy story lol, basically it was 1986, a different time,
Long story short, my dad, despite having a automatic, lost the race, likely because he was actually drunk, that was at keystone raceway outside of Pittsburgh, the race officials had known he was hammered lmao!!
music to my ears

Went to school with a girl who bought this same car same color except her's had white interior with 4 speed new and she could bust the gear's like a drag racer and proved it when she ran all the guy's I graduated with who also had some very fast car's and beat them all.

Very nice Judge! Correct color and the Ram Air III, 360 HP rating. Correct Ram Air system and very well optioned. No trim rings were factory.. although I would put them on. The only possible improvements would be a 4 speed and a Ram Air IV. (only 45 RA IV 4-speeds made in 69 in both Judge and GTO's together). I love it!

I dont believe the the firewall and inner fenders came in the body color like that, neither was the ram air pan gloss black. It looks beautiful though. The body shop that did the work on this car took their time and did a wonderful job.

You are correct. The firewall in the inner fenders should not be painted body color that was my choice. I wanted something different. Also, the tail pipe extensions are turned down because I don’t like the moisture blowing underneath the bumper and the deck lid all choices made by me and thank you.
Yep , God has often told me he really digs GTO's....

Hi Lou, I'm following your channel now. Looking forward to seeing more classic muscle cars. One little story about my GTO. I was driving home from the Jersey Shore one summer afternoon with the top down. I was pulled over by a cop. I wasn't speeding, honest! He parked up behind me and approached. It turned out he was admiring my car and gave me his business card so I could let him know when I was thinking about selling it! I did sell the car but it was a student from Connecticut who bought it. My next car was a very nice 1965 Riviera.
Thanks!
SUPER THANK YOU PETER! Appreciate your support! Lou
There is so much that could and should have been covered in this story but the jack instructions got a second visit. This was obviously a major restoration. Some additional photos and owner story on it would have been a really nice addition to this story.
