@@David-yw2lv It was good clean comedy and so many things on the show didn't make sense, that's what made it so much fun to watch. I loved how many outfits the women brought with them on a 3 hour tour Lol.
We've heard quite a few stories about Tina Louise. One is that she thought Ginger would be the star. Did this show originally have a different name? Some of the actors were better known even then. Ironically, the Eva Grub episode may be my least favorite. Those castaways should have kept all visitors under 24/7 guard. What if Gilligan hadn't told her of their plan to go back for her later? You actually felt sorry for Ginger this time. After all, Eva signed her note, the new Ginger Grant. Judging from the reunion movie, she wasn't successful. The first fake Ginger got a movie role after the rescue. That was mean of Tina to refuse those personal appearances. Perhaps she didn't need the money. Most likely her costars did. It's possible she just wanted to enjoy her time off. We know she skipped the 3 reunion movies and 2 animated series. Hopefully she's made peace with the show by now. After all, she's the only surviving cast member.
I felt, something was 'off' between Ginger and everyone else. Yet acting roles are hard to come by, and Tina 'should've' been more appreciative of her job. Then again, she did a very bad performance as the 'Biker Mama' in that flop movie "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" lol Such a shame, Tina had a terrible attitude. I don't get along with some people, because of various dramas, yet a few had a PAIR and told me what I was doing, I have nothing but DEEP LOVE and RESPECT for them. Only the FEW that grow a PAIR of BALLS to confront the problem, can make a huge difference. Ignoring the problem, and removing the problem, never solves it. It just spreads the problem, but never corrects the unacceptable behavior. I'm sure Tina, had her reasons and I'm sure there was more deserving actresses that could have Ginger's character and perform it better. Dawn Wells, was described as the 'smart' actress that knew how to negotiate, and Natalie Schaffer was also a bit of a drama-queen herself. Yet, I'm sure, with enough hard work, they would chop down a few trees, and between the professor and skipper, make the repairs to the "Minnow" lol but after a while, Gilligan always messed up. lol I grew up on the Gilligan Island's reruns.
In a lot of the episodes, a visitor leaves the castaways behind and nothing bad happens to them. Some of the "evil" visitors leave, but they get their comeuppance later, relayed to the castaways via a radio news report. Jonathan Kincaid lost his mind and was put in a straitjacket. Jackson Farrell's stolen bank money was chopped up by the boat's propellor. George Barkley lost his prize money which was hidden inside his transmitter. The Mr. Howell imposter was rescued, but he couldn't spend any more of the real Howell's money. But, at the end of the "All About Eva" episode, there was no comeuppance. We can only assume that her plan to become Ginger in Hollywood didn't pan out.
i`m afraid not, arrogance has an extremely long shelf life. i sincerely doubt there is any backstory to this. she appears to be just a very unlikable snob.
I think it was Tina Louise's agent left her to believe that she was supposed to be the star of the series. Show creator, Sherwood Schwartz, pulled her aside and showed her a script which clearly stated the series was called "Gilligan's Island". It's sad to hear that her refusal to do personal appearances took tens of thousands of dollars out of the pockets of her castmates, especially since most of them did not receive top dollar salaries as actors during production and the residuals deals after syndication didn't help their bank accounts very much either.
After GI was canceled, I don't recall Tina in any role until she popped up during Dallas' first season, and that was a short stint since her character was either killed off or left town.
i`m with you, man. i`d likely embarrass myself with constant babbling about my favorite episodes. i`m betting that she would be typical "maryann" and just accept my awkwardness and be the kind person that everybody knows she is.
My all time favorite line from the series was when Eva Grubb was lamenting the story of the blind date who had to go home because of a headache and Gilligan responded “Maybe that’s where he kept his aspirin.”
Years ago, I saw Tina Louise on an episode of “Married With Children “.When she stepped on stage, she was immediately recognized by the audience and got a huge ovation.
That's a complete and utter BULLSHIT Line designed by the Directors and Producers [ who, by the way, have ZERO ARTISTIC TALENT ] to keep the "non-pretty" actors from trying to get cast in A-List Lead Roles .. As a PROFESSIONAL ACTOR, I have the RIGHT to DEMAND a LEAD ROLE, or, at minimum, ABOVE THE LINE ROLE [ that is the TOP FOUR CHARACTERS in any movie or TV Show ] - which A] PAYS WAAY MORE ; B] Gives me more Screen Time ; C] Gives Me MORE RECOGNITION in the Entertainment Community ; D] and ADVANCES MY CAREER to a HIGHER PAYING, HIGHER POSITION .. I REFUSE to spend my career as a pissant fk'g "character" actor who: NEVER gets paid Top Dollar [ A-list "Starring Actor" Only ] , NEVER gets 'Best Actor' Award [ A-List "starring actor" only ] , NEVER gets Creative Control [ A-list "Starring Actor" only ] , NEVER gets "Executive Producer Credit" [ A-List "Starring Actor" only ] .. Acting is a JOB .. a CAREER .. and the ONLY WAY that you can get PROMOTED UP through the ranks .. is AS A LEAD STARRING ACTOR -- every other actor gets "passed-up for promotion" -- and they end up being a nobody, who NEVER makes more than about $60,000 a year - Middle Class, Servile to the "A-list Team", Starving, Can't Afford to Pay their Bills -- and NOBODY ever remembers them. FK YOU IF YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND that Hollywood is a CORPORATE, MONEY-MAKING ENTERPRISE -- and that you're so-called "small actors" are at the BOTTOM of the Food Chain - trying to FIGHT THEIR WAY TO STARDOM -- and HIGH-PAYING EXECUTIVE POSITIONS, with CONTROL over their own CAREER.
I had heard the stories that she wasn't happy on the show, and that is why she didn't appear in any of the TV reunion movies and didn't lend her voice on the two animated spin-offfs...at least Dawn Wells lent her voice the second animated spin-off.
I will give Tina Louise credit for reuniting with the whole cast for the first and last time on the Ross Schaefer Show , a Fox late night show in 1988 . It was the last time for the whole cast because Jim Backus died in '89 , Alan Hale Jr in '90 , and Natalie Schafer in '91 . After that she would occasionally reunite with the remaining cast , like the end of that "Roseanne" episode where Tina Louise was playing Roseanne's character , then Dawn Wells came in playing Darlene , the negative smart aleck daughter , Bob Denver came in playing Roseanne's sister Jackie , then Russell Johnson came in playing Becky's boyfriend Mark . I saw a video clip of that episode a long time ago , I don't remember all the details , but it was funny .
I’m sure they made plenty on their show to remain comfortable. I think Gilligan spent his fortune quickly and the Captain was a known gambler so while she may not have necessarily needed the extra cash it wasn’t fair to stop her cast mates from earning the extra they may have needed. Sad and controlling!
maybe she wanted to protect her career from the killing blow of being typecast forever as ginger grant. maybe it wasn't all about the money. i doubt you can understand this, based on your comment, but money ain't everything. worse, when it's all you care about, all it is then, is an addiction, a craving that can never be satisfied. any junkie knows that when the monkey on the back is unsatisfied, so is the junkie, and the monkey is never ever satisfied ...
@@tzzlite Vanity and a butthurt ego. She was originally told she would be the star of the show. I mean - Gilligan's Island, not Ginger's Island. She couldn't process that.
@@thehellyousay She stabbed her castmates in the back & denied them ALL a chance to make extra money in an industry where work is NOT guaranteed! Russell Johnson was a sensible & astute guy so he wouldn't have called Tina out unless he knew she was in the wrong.
@thehellyousay , all she had to do was so no to even being on the show from the get-go. So she was about the money, hence she took the part, but because of her ego she thought it was beneath her. What a diva snob shewas/ still is. Too bad the one who hated being on GI the most is the only one left.
Okay, Tina was given a script that presented Ginger as being a major character with as many lines and screen time as Gilligan. What she DIDN'T know was that this script was written when JAYNE MANSFIELD was going to be Ginger. ( I think Mansfield either turned down the part or was killed in that car wreck before she could take on the role) Anyway, without Mansfield a script was written that significantly reduced the part of Ginger. But the Mansfield script had been shown to Tina to coerce her to sign on. So I think her beef with the producers and writers (not the cast!) was legitimate and understandable.
That is an interesting tidbit. I actually went to Google it and read that you are correct that Jayne Mansfield did turn down the role. Mansfield's death had nothing to do with her not appearing on the show. She lived a few years after the debut of Gilligan's island. I can't disregard the feelings of Tina Louise about the role, but just looking at it objectively, I think she looked a gift horse in the mouth. Without knowing it at the time, she ended up playing an iconic role with the potential to earn her huge amounts of money even without residuals. Gilligan's Island had a long reach. I grew up in the 80s watching this show. There is no way of knowing if she ended up typecast because of Gilligan's Island, but she did get other parts and continued acting after the show. It is entirely possible that never having done the show in some alternate universe, her career went nowhere. In that respect, it is sad that she appears to not have had the ability to appreciate her most commercially successful role.
@@Tes7000 Yeah, but then I have to ask, what work did you see any of the cast members do when the show ended? It's not like there was a long line of shows for them to star in. They really were typecast as the silly comic characters without anywhere to go when the show ended. And, at the time they made the show, residuals didn't last but a couple of years following the end of the show. Residuals that actors currently receive go on many years after the show ends if the show is good enough and lasted long enough to syndicate. I can fully understand Louise's bitterness.
LOL, NO NO, that was pure arrogance on display. they could have killed the character off with a tragic banana cream pie poisoning and it wouldn`t have affected the show in any way. just a very unlikable person, seeing the way that she carried herself in interviews and her interactions with the other actors, plus the comments made about her status on the show says everything you need to know.
That’s an urban legend that has long been debunked (that her then husband who was an agent negotiated her contract to include residuals). She herself has stated in countless interviews that the entire cast only received residuals for the first few airings in syndication. She died in a nursing home, penniless, after selling her personal possessions to pay off medical bills after prolonged health issues. Funny how these things still persist.

He made money without spending money in syndication. The actors only got a limited rerun number pay...then nothing much. The myth of networks cancelling popular shows is often an exec producer lie they tell the crew and public to avoid souring the syndication viewership.
Thanks Bob for this Classic TV F & T segment. I saw a interview with Russell Johnson and he truly seemed to have a likeness and respect for his cast mates,I never heard or read this. Unfortunately you have some individuals who, for whatever reasons, are more self centered even at the expense of others. Good segment.
If they killed off her character on "Dallas", it certainly didn't become a 'Who Shot J.R.?' situation. Few of us barely remember her arrival at Ewing Oil or departure from the show. Yes, Tina Louise pretty much disappeared from the business after she left the island.
I *think* I heard or read somewhere that Tina thought she was going to be the main focus of the show and turned bitter after learning she would be more or less in a supporting role like "the rest." Cheers....
Ginger's personality was a bit uppity and glamorous and a bit remote from the other stranded islanders. It was the script ! Sounds like Tina played her part so perfectly because it was her actual personality :-)
Russell Johnson was mad at Tina Louise because she wouldn't acknowledge their kissing scenes. Tina was asked on a talk show if she had any kissing scenes with anyone on the sitcom and she said no.
A couple of things Ive heard about Tina that I dont know are true. One is she was under the impression that Ginger was the main character. Two Tina saw herself as more of a dramatic actress doing serious roles, not comedy. Ive heard the same about Francis Bavier aka Aunt Bee. Both became bitter when they realized they had become typecast. Tina as a dumb blonde type and Francis as a grandmother.
Tina was to GI as Robert Reed was to the BB....both of them took the roles and of course every paycheck for years---while complaining to Sherwood and giving him regular headaches. Idk what to think here. Were they deceived that it made them this difficult or what was the deal ?
A lot of actors are in it for their “art.” Problem is, if they are a working class actor, they sometimes have to take roles they don’t want in order to feed themselves.
I’m Gen X and I only know who Tina was due to G.I. because of reruns. If it wasn’t for that show her legacy would have never lasted beyond her generation.
This was the Russell Johnson that no one knew: > ua-cam.com/users/shorts5_AJm7K-aEg > ua-cam.com/users/shortsAQ4ZlQg7BW0 Salute from a fellow Veteran (1967-1972)
She hated Sherwood Schwartz. She refused to do anything that would make him more money. That's why she never did the cartoons, the returns or any appearance as Ginger... cause Schwartz got most of the money. She felt Schwartz was a cheat and a liar. Robert Reed didn't get along with him either.
Tina Louise had two huge reasons to resent the role she played on the show: first, the producers of the show lied to her agent and told him that she was going to be the star of the show. When she showed up to set, she was shocked to find out she was just another ensemble player. She was angry with her agent for misleading her, but he had been deceived himself by the studio. Two, she was very afraid of being typecast in the part, and that's exactly what happened to her. She couldn't get work when the show ended because of her character. If she had appeared with the other cast members at events afterwards, it would have just reinforced her fear of being forever typecast as this character. So I completely understand why she felt that way.
“For some reason…”? Yeah, no. In an interview with other cast members, Johnson made it clear why she refused. She understood, as he did (he specifically said that he had steady work for 15 years prior to that series, but hardly any work after that series), that they had become typecast. She simply wanted this role behind her so she could get other roles.
@@GeminiladyJackson-xq6hc Your claim aside, if you understand the context of my comment, you understand Russell Johnson said he ‘wasn’t’ typecast until Gilligan's Island. You’d also understand Tina Louise avoided any connection to the cast and fans - and with the specific intent of breaking the typecast stigma.
Later interviews seemed to indicate that Tina Louise thought she was headed for bigger things than the show, which is probably why she didn't want to get to associated too close to it with those appearances. Sort of like Sally Field and The Flying Nun, only Sally went on to a much more lucrative career afterward.
In an interview, Tina Blacker said she did not have any issue with the other cast members of the show, but felt Schwartz had made a mountain of money through the syndication of the show - which the cast did not get any part of. She said she did not want to do anything - like the derivative movies - that would make Schwartz more money.
I agree , John. And I don't buy the "she cost the rest of the cast money" argument. She had no obligation to do reunions or conventions. If the other characters were popular enough (and they were) there would have been offers for them with or without the Ginger character (which was hugely popular). Most of the characters were one dimensional - Ginger in particular. If she didn't want to do ongoing appearances it is her call. No-one elses.
In the 1960's people didn't talk about that kind of thing with co-workers. Too there needs to be a professional separation between personal life and work life.
I saw Tina Louise on a talk show recently. And she really doesn't talk about Gilligan's Island much but she said she didn't actually want to do that part. But her age and told her to go ahead and take it because the show went last but a couple of months. So she was stuck in the contract and couldn't get out. And I think that had a lot to do with it.
I always liked Gilligan's Island. I could see Tina acting like she was better than the rest of the cast. Treat people like you want to be treated. Thank you Bob. Melanie
I can’t blame Tina Louise for declining reunions and appearances she did not want to be typecast. As everyone was with the exception of Jim backus plus they got no residuals for that show But she maintains how much she did enjoy doing it
They had her on the KLOS Mark & Brian radio show years ago. She clearly didn't want to talk about Gilligan's Island at all. She was pushing her own line of umbrellas or something. It was both awkward and bizarre!
LOL "It's not too often someone can put a price tag, on just how much they dislike a coworker." She must have really hated the show to turn down easy money, like that. They should have gotten the woman who played Ginger on the pilot.
Read about a story of a fan approaching Tina and said, "hey, aren't you Ginger?". Tina replied, "no, I'm Tina." So either she's not a nice person or she really hated her Ginger.
The Marine Barracks I was stationed in was broken down into two separate factions, you were a Ginger man or a Mary Ann guy. Since AFRTS played reruns of old TV shows this was an amusing past time for us in 1973.
Tina, Louise has been notoriously difficult to work with. But she also said that she hated the show, not a typecaster. They should have wrote her out of the script after the first season and brought in a new movie star. In the logic of the show. It makes perfect sense
She outlived them all. I think she wanted to be the star and hated the show which is said because that is what they are known for was that show. Loved watching it as a kid.
The chemistry was the key , without it no one would care if Tina Louise Blacker was a creep or not . And no one care about Ms. Wells being their favorite doll . Notice no one comments about how Bob Denver got along with Tuesday Weld , Joyce Van Patten or Jeanine Riley from his other sitcoms
I hate knowing that all of them are gone now, but one. I don't have any bad feelings about Tina but I can never understand how actors sign up to be in a series and declare they are unhappy doing it before it even gets underway. That has happened on other shows.
What a nasty thing to say based on misconceptions no doubt from the likes of this video here. Tina got the last laugh because now at 90 years 5 months and 12 days she is the oldest living and longest lived cast member. Also, she is blessed with a daughter and two grandbabies.

Say what you all want. Tina wes really good as Ginger. I'm a Maryanne guy. But Ginger was a big part of the success of the show. Too bad that there were problems with Tina. It would not have been the same, without her. Give her the credit that she earned.
Tina was asked why she didn't do the "escape" episode, she JUST gave birth to her baby and chose motherhood above a "movie". Beyond those days, she has been an advocate for better education at a public school, and the kids adore her. Ask her next time instead of a bunch of insinuations from others. She didn't want to do GI in the first place. She was content on her then stage acting. And, you all know how first impression judgments, then whispers, then talking, followed by endless rumors. It just doesn't end. She has been interviewed several times. She has said her side. Maybe watch it. Listen to her side.
I think Tina always regretted taking the role. At first I'm sure she thought it was easy money. Probably thought since the premise of the show was so outlandish that it wouldn't last long. She had done some feature film work. the show may have interfered with her getting other work. I had heard she was pretty stand-offish with the cast. Some actors are just like that.
I’m a Ginger fan all the way . Maybe she was a bit of a diva ..maybe she wasn’t ..but she was the only reason I watched Gillian’s Island. So what if she didn’t want to spend her weekends doing personal appearances. 😎😎😎
Gee, I watched the show to see if they would get rescued that week, I was very concerned for their well being. Then again, I was about 7 years old at the time.
@ kathrynmolesa1641-- I guess that you missed the episode when the Professor found a rubber tree and plant, and was able to extract rubber from them, and then made condoms for all of the men. LOL 😊😊😊😊
Professor Roy Hinckley was the most eligible bachelor on the island. What was wrong with him? Captain Kirk (evil side) could have cleaned up in a crossover.
Russell was in a great Twilight Zone episode where he went back in time to try to save Lincoln. He was great on Gilligan's Island. Playing the serious character of the group he still showed a real flair for comedy. There's always a diva in the crowd and Tina was definitely it.
Tina Louise was a petty human being that seemed to envision herself as a very important person. Her lousy personality aways entered the room first and left last. She never considered herself as part of the "others".
Michael Nesmith's mother invited what became White-Out, so he could afford to not take part in any of the gigs that his bandmates landed after the TV show ended. Those appearances would have been more special to their fans if one Monkee wasn't so obviously absent.
What’s also odd about Tina Louise is she signed up for Gilligan’s Island thinking that Ginger Grant was not only a Hollywood starlet, but also the star of the show, and her costar castaways were supporting cast members. For some reason, she didn’t get the memo that all 7 actors had equal roles on the show because it was a ensemble cast. If anyone, Bob Denver was star of the show due to the fact the name of his character, Gilligan was in the title of the show! However, it was Bob Denver who insisted after the first season that Dawn Wells and Russell Johnson get billing credit and the characters they played were mentioned in the show’s opening song.
Oh, for crying out loud, they ALL had a bone to pick with Tina. So freaking what if she did not want to be DEFINED by that 3-season TV part? It was a JOB. Does ANYONE think that those cast members thought the show would take on culturally iconic proportions WHILE they were doing it? No, they didn’t. Tina did a helluva lot more than any of the other actors before and after the series shut down. She was one of the original STEPFORD WIVES, for crying out loud. A “Stepford Wife” is just as culturally relevant as a Gilligan’s Island castaway, so it can be said that she made two iconic impacts. She was also J.R. Ewing’s doomed secretary, Julie, on DALLAS. In ‘Johnny Suede’ with Brad Pitt. She kept going. Sure, she was up-and-down about the “Ginger” legacy and should have been a bit more lighthearted about it, I suppose, but she was a working actress and wanted to get on with different parts over the years and she did. Remember a few years ago when everyone’s equally beloved MaryAnn (Dawn Wells) had to expose herself as bankrupt, not a dime to her name, house foreclosed, and the whole country, basically, did a GoFundMe for her? Tina donated to it. It was a sweet moment, but Dawn Wells never had a seriously paying gig after GILLIGAN. Neither did the Professor. Or Bob Denver … he was on some awful Sid & Marty Krofft disaster. It seems that a big part of the “careers” of many of these castaways consisted of bad-mouthing Tina on “Where Are They Now?” shows and crummy conventions. Well, Tina is the last one standing at 90 and she never dissed that cast. She devoted a lot of her life to helping inner city kids learn how to read. She’s prickly when it comes to Ginger, but she had a real, ongoing career before and after. She’s our last castaway-treat her with respect! 😄 And I never got the “Ginger OR Maryann?” conundrum. It was clear to anyone: Ginger (Tina) was the bombshell any guy with a working piece would enjoy for the night of nights. Maryann (Dawn Wells) was the girl you’d marry, bring home to Mom, and have a bunch of kids with while privately fantasizing about GINGER. 😄 Apples and oranges. Tina rocks.
Jim Backus and Alan Hale, Jr both had very big careers. Bob Denver was also the lead character on another long running hit tv show, Dobie Gillus. Natalie Schaffer was in many movies in the 1940s and 1950s. All 4 of them had much better and bigger careers than Tina Louise.
She was a diva who thought the role was beneath her but, she signed on for it and her career suffered for it. I don't feel sorry for her. I loved the show in my youth and never liked her character. May Ann, on the other hand, was the girl everyone liked!
Picking up little bits of info over the years about Tina Loise, mainly from Sherwood Schwartz, she was a real pain. Constantly complaining about something and making demands. I've been around that personality type before, and I prefer to avoid them.
according to a producer, Tina joined believing she was the star of the show, when that turned out not to be true, she become very difficult to deal and work with despite the casts attempts to get along with her. The producer hinted that she was a very selfish person in real life. That's why she rarely talks about the show unless she's the topic of it.
Tina Louise claimed that she was told by her agent that "Gilligan's Island" was going to be a starring role for and that the other cast members were her supporting cast. She claimed that she got angry when she found out that Bob Denver was the star. Seems to me that the name of the show should have been a huge clue.

The Mr. Howell imposter was rescued, but he couldn't spend any more of the real Howell's money.
But, at the end of the "All About Eva" episode, there was no comeuppance. We can only assume that her plan to become Ginger in Hollywood didn't pan out.

Russell Johnson was a WWII veteran and hero.

She didn't exactly become an A-list movie star, so it makes you wonder.
She skipped the A-list and got on train to the D-list and stayed there.
After GI was canceled, I don't recall Tina in any role until she popped up during Dallas' first season, and that was a short stint since her character was either killed off or left town.
Yeah, the actress who played Mary Ann lived in poverty in her later years. I don’t think she got any residuals.

That's a complete and utter BULLSHIT Line designed by the Directors and Producers [ who, by the way, have ZERO ARTISTIC TALENT ] to keep the "non-pretty" actors from trying to get cast in A-List Lead Roles ..
Day Player, Under-Five and Supporting Character Roles ARE NOT SIGNIFICANT ROLES IN FILM OR TV - they PAY significantly LESS than starring roles - they PAY - if you're lucky - 100 or maybe 200 dollars a day [ $26,000 to $52,000 a year * ] -- for EIGHT, TEN and sometimes TWELVE HOURS OF ON-SET WORK -- EXCLUDING the 1 or 2 hours it takes to gets there .. and the 1 or 2 hours it takes to get home -- and they NEVER REQUIRE REAL ACTING TALENT - ANYBODY can play them -- and NO ONE WILL CARE whether there's any Talent in the Actor ..
* That's compared to an "A-List" "Starring Role" that pays $100,000 PER EPISODE [ 1 to 2 Million a year ].. or 1 MILLION DOLLARS PER FILM - PLUS Percentage of all profits [ which the Supporting Characters -- and the Crew -- NEVER receive ] ..
In other words, they are designed for UN-TALENTED People who DON'T KNOW HOW TO ACT. NEW ACTORS with NO ACTING SKILL. If you get STUCK playing those roles for too long -- YOU'RE CAREER IS OVER - and you're NEVER going to get cast as a Lead - therefore, there is ZERO REASON to continue as an actor ..
Because you have almost ZERO CHANCE of EVER BEING "Tom Hanks" or whatever other over-paid, over-appreciated "star" you want to worship ..
I have read that Tina Louise was difficult to work with, it is to bad that she was like that. Good video Bob.
Tina Louise appeared on the Ross Schafer talk show because she wanted to promote her latest film which turned out to be a huge flop.

Wow! WHY would Tina turn down THOUSANDS?? HORRIBLE decision!

Vanity and a butthurt ego.
Ok good point. But why punish the crew? They didn't write the script. Refusing to appear with them seems spiteful.

If they killed off her character on "Dallas", it certainly didn't become a 'Who Shot J.R.?' situation. Few of us barely remember her arrival at Ewing Oil or departure from the show. Yes, Tina Louise pretty much disappeared from the business after she left the island.
Tina Louise appeared on dozens of TV shows after Gilligan's Island left the air in 1967.
I remember seeing Russell Johnson in an interview elsewhere and he talked about Tina Louise, saying, "Hell of an actress...but difficult".

Tina got the last laugh. She is still going strong at 90 years old.
But when she's gone, everyone will have fond memories of her castmates, but memories of her being "difficult".

@@yinYangMountainYou need to read my comment again. Actors usually get typecast after starring on popular sitcoms.
I don't blame her for not participating in the reunion tv-movies. Sherwood Schwartz also made millions of The Brady Bunch in syndication, too
I agree , John.
Ginger was my least favorite character.
Same here. She was cringe AF.
Sounds like no one really bothered to know her. Tina Louis was sexually abused as a child. That type a trauma never goes away.
I once read that she under the impression that she was going to be the Star of the show and acted as if were. Irritating the rest of the cast.

I can’t blame Tina Louise for declining reunions and appearances she did not want to be typecast. As everyone was with the exception of Jim backus plus they got no residuals for that show But she maintains how much she did enjoy doing it
It seems like there is always one hold out on these reunion type shows. But usually the casts just work around the one person who can't be there.
She didn't want to do it. That's her right. If she didn't want to return, that's her decision. She didn't owe her cast mates anything...
They had her on the KLOS Mark & Brian radio show years ago. She clearly didn't want to talk about Gilligan's Island at all. She was pushing her own line of umbrellas or something. It was both awkward and bizarre!

You wouldn't work, either if your mom created an invention that made millions.
Apples and oranges.
Jayne Mansfield was the original choice to play Ginger but she refused because she also thought appearing in a sitcom was beneath her, too.
Well said! ❤
Picking up little bits of info over the years about Tina Loise, mainly from Sherwood Schwartz, she was a real pain. Constantly complaining about something and making demands. I've been around that personality type before, and I prefer to avoid them.
She was the best thing about the show
I was always a Mary Anne fan. That said, Bailey Quarters over Jennifer Marlowe as well!
according to a producer, Tina joined believing she was the star of the show, when that turned out not to be true, she become very difficult to deal and work with despite the casts attempts to get along with her. The producer hinted that she was a very selfish person in real life. That's why she rarely talks about the show unless she's the topic of it.
OH SNAP
Tina liked to be a Broadway actress . Not some television sitcom.
Tina wanted to be a real-life movie star like her character, Ginger.
Then she shouldn't have excepted the part.
@@texasgirl6000 Tina Louise starred in a 1992 film, Johnny Suede with Brad Pitt, which turned out to be another huge flop.
I preferred Ginger over the virginal Mary Ann.
Tina Louise claimed that she was told by her agent that "Gilligan's Island" was going to be a starring role for and that the other cast members were her supporting cast. She claimed that she got angry when she found out that Bob Denver was the star. Seems to me that the name of the show should have been a huge clue.
