Dude you couldn’t be any more right about what you said about the value of your premium stuff. I finally subscribed a month or two ago, partially because I really wanted to know how some of your jobs ended (which your editing really helps keep you engaged, good job Caleb ) and the other side was from how much I learned just from your normal UA-cam stuff. I’m not even in the same field, I’m in heavy diesels with 15L engines but the electrical stuff you teach is 100% the same across the board. On the days I get 20 min or so for lunch I’m sitting in my truck trying to absorb all this stuff you’re teaching. It’s also helped me teach my other shop guys to be better at troubleshooting electrical (at least the ones willing or wanting to learn) Cummins should probably sit down and take some of your courses because they are huge on ohm testing circuits on the emissions systems and most of the checks they have you do is such a waste of time because they aren’t loaded when you’re doing them, I learned that from your info and it’s saved us a ton of time on the stuff we have out of warranty that we are doing ourselves. Even the stuff that is warranty we’ve been able to save our dealer some time every now and then giving the tech’s more info when we drop something off. I know this was pretty long but I wanted to say thanks for making the cost of this great knowledge so reasonable, it makes it easier to suggest to friends and colleagues that they should check it out because it really made me better at solving these puzzles.

That's the BEST quote you said at the end of the video. "The technician should be paid again. The garage should be paid again. WE DON'T WORK FOR FREE! And this is not ripping off the customer. It's getting paid for your knowledge. I make no apologies." I'll use this on my clients that don't want to pay me on comebacks that have separate problems. I always learn something new on each video. Thanks Danner.

Thanks so much for your videos have learnt so much over the years, and as you were saying it follows as long as the diagnostic is correct, the rest will follow and one of the biggest take away i have is until you pin point the exact problem the diagnostic isn't over.
I went from a no body to someone who is regarded as one of the better diagnosticians in this country, i.e. being the one who other workshops call when they cant figure out the problem, so i have to say THANK YOU SO MUCH, especially for your knowledge and willingness to teach.

    • @ScannerDanner

Thank you Rick. I often wrestle with my approach to creating case studies. I could make them more "watchable" if I'd figure out the problem first, then film in hindsight. They'd be at least 50-75% shorter videos, and be directly to the point. I could also make myself look like a hero every single time!!
Nothing wrong with this approach, and in certain situations, may be better, but then I go back to what we'd all miss if I did that. And it is the process! What most do not realize, those who want a quick answer anyway, is that the process is most important. And I'm more than willing to show my failures and success in my process for others to learn from. Thanks for putting some wind back in my sails.

It surprises me that when a customer does their own maintenance after having their car in a shop and things go wroung after they've done something their car, that they'll take it back to the mechanic and complain that they didn't fix it correctly only for the mechanic to do some fault finding that they find the problem was caused by whatever the owner had done to it in the 1st place.
It is a good thing that you have an honest customer who informed you of what they have done so that will cut down a majority of the diag time and you knew where to start looking.

But on a more serious note, it is clear that you comprehension of engine management systems is beyond question and sometimes that in itself is a curse. When it comes to diagnosing a vehicle concern it is necessary to always review the repair history and verify that any previous repairs have been done correctly. This a difficult idea to wrap are heads around as well trained professional technicians because in our own minds we cannot conceive the idea of doing any repairs half-assed, so we tend to not look at what had already been done but to look for some other cause for the fault. I only say this because you are not alone, most of us have had are butts kicked in the exact same way. I’m liking the content and you transparency as a technician… you have a new sub!

Hey Mr Danner i just want to thank you for your time and the knowledge your passing on to our fellow future technicians. When i got out of lincoln tech 10 plus years ago i was like many of our young techs doing basic jobs making 10 -12 hr.While on a you tube journey i stumbled across your videos about 8 years ago.You open my eyes to whole other side of being a auto technician and the best decision ive made in my career was buying your book. After that I invested in a used verus for the 4 channel scope and my path to where i am now is all because of that you and that book. Now im a lead tech at a major auto chain where all i specialize in engine and electrical diagnostics making 30 plus hr on flat rate.Plus im the only tech with the skill set to do the work at my shop which keeps the work flowing for me plus most weeks touch way less vehicles than my coworkers and flag the same or more with way less stress on my hands and body.......Thank You

Love it! The music during the “inspirational” speech was hillarious! On a more serious note, I couldn’t agree more that it is so absolutely rewarding to chase down the failure. What throws the biggest wrench in the gears, is not having a proper knowledge of electrical theory and of particular system to accurately and efficiently diagnose it. But that’s why we appreciate you!!Thank you!

Love your videos! Been a member of your premium for a while now and bought a digital copy of your book and am going to buy a hard copy before long. Very inspiring how dedicated you are to learning. I’ve been a tech for about 7 years and decided about a year or two ago that I don’t want to just wing it or only learn the minimal since I work at a dealership and only see mostly one manufacturer- I want to become a true A tech and understand the systems the best I can. I’d love it if you could go over some more scan tool functions one day, there is a ton of test and live data readings but a lot of them a kind of vague on what we’re looking for/at. Thanks for all your shared knowledge!!

I continue to look forward to the videos that you produce here on UA-cam! I have been a premium member for 3+ years and I can say I am getting the better part of the deal! For $11 a month no matter what I will always have a premium membership for the rest of my life! One thing I have picked up by following you Paul is a better way to troubleshoot and then improved thought process! It’s hard to believe how far I have actually come in my diagnostic ability and I feel very blessed to not only be able to help people better with my knowledge but I also have the feeling that you talked about when you can master a diagnosis and fix the car! God bless the Danner family! Thank you for all you do my friend!

@23:35, I keep a 6" length of clear plastic water hose on hand to check the proper function of the plugs. Slip a quick connect into one end and the plug at the other end and connect it to shop air. If it fires at 100 PSI of dry air, it'll fire the fuel/air charge under compression. If there's a crack somewhere not visible, It won't fire at the electrodes.

if your going to waste your time, you may as well build or buy a proper tester with chamber you can pressurize to much higher levels.

    • @fascistpedant758
      @fascistpedant758 2 роки тому

@@throttlebottle5906 I can use higher pressure, but 100 PSI is more than enough to detect a faulty plug. IIRC, a good coil barely sparks across 1/8" at 120 PSI. The piece of tubing probably cost me 35 cents 20 years ago. I've only used it a handful of times. It's not worth spending a lot of money on a tester unless you work on aircraft or maybe professional motorsports, which I don't. What kind of tester do you have?

Those little green stripes in the coil boot will be smeared if they are installed on the end of the plug. I assume to prevent returning a used part to the store. They were so perfect, it looked like they were not even on the plug a little bit. Keep up the great work Danner!

Love this video!! Especially your passion for teaching and the love of a completed diagnosis. I am a recent premium buyer as well as both your digital and hardcopy textbooks. I am an older study.... lol but been in the field off and on since high school. Just today I was thinking of the value of your content, like you said no way can you get 500 hrs. of class, case study and hands on visual diagnosis for 12 bucks a month. Just as you help us I plan on using my knowledge from your content to help my community. It's a 55+ community and many need the help and are limited on funds. I hope to help for little to no cost to them. Appreciate your knowledge and giving it to us at a reasonable price! Also glad you are trying to give us a discount bidirectional scanner that is practical and functional, I really need one but not sure I want to spend 4k+ on a snap on when I'm not a pro. ❤️❤️

I am so thankful for you showing the real life experiences of a mechanic. I have also been doing this for over 20 years. I just went to an evening training event held by our local parts supply store, one of the young techs went with me. The instructor keep saying that we should be able to diagnose every problem in 10 minutes. If we are taking longer than that, there is something wrong with us. I kept thinking that maybe magic man could come work for our shop then. I know we should be as efficient as we can be, but that instructor wasn’t speaking truth. You speak truth. Thank you so much for all that you do.
