If I were rich I would send you money just for posting this video. Bravo Sir
Thanks!
firesupression1 how was the ground connected? with a screw?
Excellent series of videos on this subject! I'm getting ready to do this to my 88 and it will make things weigh less painless. Thanks a lot!
This video was fantastic! Just replaced my switch following your instructions. So glad you made it. I’m a newbie, so this felt very daunting, but your explanation gave me enough confidence to give it a try. Thanks!
Great video! I watched all three parts. Just what I needed. Thanks!
Your very welcome thanks for watching! Glad I could help!!!
Much thanks! On my 88 I tempted to cut and splice new connector in but after watching how to remove pins, that saved me. My RH Brake light was inop. as well as my RH hazard. I new the problem was in my multifunction switch(turn signal switch) but couldn't get the connector through. All is well and working. Thanks
I have been trying to figure out how to do this properly for months. Thanks for the vid. I will be out pulling the wheel tomorrow.
9years later do u reply?
You don’t have to take the dash and everything apart just the steering wheel and turn signal switch but this video helps a lot
My first car. Had to get rid of it... But I loved it. There was a problem that nobody was able to fix. Not the dealership or 2 reputable shops. I would would decide to stop running at unpredictable times. Leave it sit for 24 hours or more and it would start back up like nothing happened... I remember it went through 2 fuel pumps in a 6 month period... Nobody could figure out the problem...
sonichuizcool we had a car like that. never found out what happened with it. we got in an accident at one point because the car shut off randomly and we just got rid of it after that
I learned the hard way you have to tilt the wheel down. Then you have just enough room to get the connector through
Glad I could be of help!
My steering wheel wont come off no matter how hard I pull.
Thanks man!
Where did you get that steering wheel cover? Very helpful videos by the way, thanks!
Thanks alot, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting my steering wheel off. She just does not want to let go. Going to need to buy a puller i guess.
Thanks for the video this is exactly what I have, it will not retain to the right. Have you had to adjust the switch for the tailgate window? mine will not go back up.
When I was 15 my Dad had me change this switch on his truck. it no longer sent a signal to the blinkers but it did click left and right. after I put in the new switch is when i got this problem of it it not wanting to stay down or up when i signal, sometimes it will work fine other days ill have to hold it up or down. now that i think about it i think its only the right signal.
We figured out the plug has a clip on it. It is red/orange this piece comes out and frees up all the wires. Take a photo so you put all the wires back in the correct holes. Feed the wires through the steering column and put them back into the plug in the correct spot and put the red/orange clip back in to secure the wires and plug it in. No cutting or soldering involved. Should save time.
Help!!! Gotta do this job on my bronco in the next few days! What is weird is when I turn the right single it will also act like it’s shoring our cause the lights will flicker, does anyone know what this could be? Maybe some wire is touching something inside?
Not yet! But you know who you can ask and he may have an answer for ya is rudedogii. I would also check the FSB Forum. They may have answer for ya. Thanks for watching.
Buddy I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is the ground that gets screwed in might not be making contact. Good luck man.
Idk what’s up with my truck when I put a turn signal it turns on my hazard lights
Ok man. You rock! But I do have a request. While doin this I fluffed up my tail lights. I'm not sure if its in the Collin or a short or ground or what. Even my hazzards don't show up on the tail. Any ideas?
i have an 1989 F150 Custom. the turn signal stalk has a forward movement, it is not broken, but any idea in what that is for? i just noticed this yesterday, looked online and no info, i move it forward and do not see anything light up, turn on or off. thought maybe i had tilt steering, but it seems i do not. thanks for the informative vid.
The only thing I can think of is the tilt function of your wheel. Trying putting some extra pressure on the wheel up and down. It may just be stuck.
I took the nut off and the steering wheel Is not budging..won't come out. What should I do hit it with a hammer
Do you have to go through all of that just to Fix the click it goes into? You can't just replace the plastic that makes it click in? Or am I missing something?
Watch all of the videos and you will see. In order to get into the guts of the turn signal switch what you called "the click" you will need to disassemble the column up to this point. It's not hard it's just a little time consuming. Good luck!
My turn signal lever(literally the stick) is just rusted as hell and I bought a new one, how do I switch them?
I did save this video for future reference, I’m sure I’ll need it one day.
If I’m not mistaken it just threads on. Lefty loosey.
Holy shit this guy has gorilla strength! Took off a steering wheel with slip joint and yanking on it.
No need to drop column or take plug about bud just take Alan bolts outta back of the steering wheel mount an three screws an there ya go... I'm replacing mine as I type this
Thank you so much for this reply. I knew there had to be a way to get it in or out without taking the harness apart or they would sell it apart. Thanks again!!!
I took the nut off the steering wheel and tried pulling off the wheel but it wont budge :(
The only other option you have is to get a steering wheel puller and remove the wheel that way. But! Before you go that route I would get some PB BLASTER and soak the steering shaft. Then try and pull side to side the wheel. This may do it. Good luck.
thanks :) I ended up getting a steering wheel puller and replaced just the cam and its fixed now :)
Column
Damn shame all that work because one little piece of plastic breaks off the right turn signal cam...and it's always the right turn signal.
Well, for the second time in 26 years of owning my 1988 f250 the right cam busted again...HOWEVER....instead of purchasing the entire deal (wires and all) in this video, you can purchase just the white plastic turn signal cam.
It's a Dorman part # 49305 available at Auto Zone or Advance Auto for $9.00
Update...the $9.00 cam looks EXACTLY like the oe Ford part but, maybe because the Dorman replacement is made in Taiwan...the 'hooks' on the cam don't engage enough to hold the turn signal arm in place....Son of a bitch!
Dang buddy that stinks that it didn't work out for you with the made in Taiwan part. I try my best to buy as much as I can made in the USA. I pulled this replacement part out of a junkyard bronco or f150.
Well, I had no idea the Dorman part was made in Taiwan. However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel...someone turned me on to a company called 'Shee-Mar'...I make a call to Shee-Mar and spoke to a very nice fella, when I told him I have the Dorman cam, he almost knew what I was going to say next.
He confirmed the the Dorman Cam won't work, he knew the 'hooks were too short' because, it's just tooled wrong...made in China.
He stated that he (Shee-Mar) actually makes their products and their cam not only has the correct OE Ford colored wires but, it's tooled correctly and WILL work.
Then, he also stated, Rock Auto carries the Shee-Mar product under the name " OE Pro"
I just ordered Cam #SM-16 from Rock Auto (same part number as Shee-Mar) and it should be here in a few days.
Cost with shipping...$3 dollars more than the 'Made in China' crap from Advance Auto/Dorman.
I just hope the damn cam works!
BTW, Advance Auto won't refund the Dorman Cam because, it's an "electrical part that was put in use"
I told the guy..."you can't tell it won't work until it's installed"
Next step, I'll be talking to a store manager!
It broke several months ago...and now, no brake lights
