Thank you for the tips. I am new to DND 5e and I am running a Halloween campaign next week and was looking for suggestions. The Shadowfell info really interesting. I want to research more of that.
I think with the mindflayer one, a way to up the paranoia is to have 1 player before the game starts agree to be a hidden mindflayer/minion, either a mindflayer that escaped the slaughter and is now hiding among you to slowly speed up your transformations so he will be safe again and in charge of a new small hive, or a willing servant of the old masters who is now trying to magically augment your ceremorphosis so he will have new masters once more. The player in question must be ok with this idea, not forced to do it so it’s still fun, but if so then the players will have that much more to worry about. Because now a physical threat in the form of the predator lurking the halls hunting them but also an unknown traitor that will sabotage their efforts to leave and not change.
BTW, I'm using the Shadowfell one tomorrow. Basically, Bloodborne, the players seek refuge in a tavern, the Inn of Ill Omen (Oblivion ref). This inn is a portal to the Shadowfell, and to get home they will be demanded by the vacationing God of the Hunt to hunt for him three quarries, and he will return them home then. The armor of an undead warrior (buffer animated armor), the pelt of a great beast (I have a Cleric Beast stat block) and the sinews of horror (I'm gonna find, like, a CR7 aberration for that).
@@LutesDice Well, you made it possible, so thank you for the inspiration I almost ran a pirate one shot, then I looked at my calendar and found it may be a little less appropriate, so I checked your vid in panic.
1:30 Wait... it says there is no darkness without light in the Curse of Stradh book? The world without direct sunlight? I mean it's correct the ethernal gloom is one of my main problems with curse of Stradh. Some colour would make it way scarier.
@@LutesDice Shame it actually works very well literary too. Having sunlit days in a horror campaign only have the players count down the fleeting hours of sunlight before the darkness swallows the world again. Sunlight fields of golden grain could work great because it is suck a powerful bright presence in daytime but is essentially a place anything could hide once the sun sets. What hides in the darkness here should be something that while it doesn't kill them outright it is powerful enough to send the players running.
I so appreciate you as the one DND UA-camr so far that understands basic film concepts. Thank you.
I appreciate it! Yes, I love storytelling and movies!

I would play the hell out of such a story!

I believe it's supposed to be metaphorical.
