@@athenam.66 Nah, there are too many people who hear Brad just fine, but can barely hear Mike. That's not a hearing problem; it's a "sound" problem. Mike's audio is just not coming through.
And think: it's a relatively easy fix, to fix the audio problem, rather than to try to fix everybody's hearing!

Please give Bob our love, and our prayers continue for him. Maybe occasionally he could stick his arm in a shot "directing" you two so we can smile and feel his presence there. Dennis Prager's assistant is famous for handing him things during his Fireside Chats and is credited as "Megan's Arm" in the show which is both uplifting humor and a bit of fun. Ok guys. For 7 years now at 73, I was very wobbly and hard walking safely.
Three weeks ago I got junk in my left ear and went to Guidewell EC to have it looked at.
YES And they cleaned out that ear, and when they cleaned out the right ear, which looked fine, a huge chunk of dead wax came out very very very very deep. It was spooky We were all surprised. I went home that night. Went to sleep got up next morning and I can walk just fine. All the people that I have spoken to about this or surprise, they have never thought about it. And we’re not talking old people we’re talking people people. So I would strongly reiterate this to your listeners. Good stuff. Take care.

For some reason Mike's microphone level is set much lower that is Brad's microphone. If we turn up the volume to hear Mike, Brad comes blaring through at high volume. The video editing software used on this, should let you raise Mike's audio level to match Brad's.

I remembered your videos on this and played them for him so he could better understand how to use the methods given. We went to the hospital and he underwent several test's and in the end concluded that this is what he had. He was reassured that the methods that we started was what he had to do. This was scary for him and he now knows what to do if this occurs again.

8:44 balancing on one foot using that blue rectangular pad has worked fantastic for me. Two take offs on that: a) take the foot off the ground and extended it out in the front slightly then move it from the front around the side to the back. If necessary extend the toe was needed to lightly touch the floor. b) bend the knee slightly to work on stabilizing that joint as well.

These are great suggestions! I've been working with some PTs to address my own fall issues that caused me to have some injuries. I just scheduled an eye exam, as my cataracts are just beginning to cause visual issues, which probably is one of the triggers for falling. Thanks! Jenny (p.s. I just did the forward and backwards just fine plus while doing the karaoke side-step I swing the opposite arms forward as a counterbalance. I don't use a cane so I can do this. Also when walking on sidewalks I need to be mindful of sidewalk cracks or uneven places where tree roots have buckled the sidewalk. With eyeglasses, progressive lenses can cause one to misstep as well especially at first while walking or going up and down stairs).

Did anyone else have issues with the sound? Brad was nice and clear but I had trouble hearing what Mike was saying.

    • @trelligan42
      @trelligan42 Рік тому

Yes. Mike is speaking in a nasal tone, and has a naturally higher voice as well. Voice training can help with this, moving the voice 'center' lower with more resonance. As a benefit, this would add more low frequencies to his voice-making it deeper overall. In singing, this is referred to as having 'bottom' to the voice.
It's also possible to overcome this with different miking and software processing, and this is quite reasonable these days since it can all be done in software.

Great video. Really helpful for seniors who've lost confidence in their balance. What can you suggest for people suffering spinal stenosis, who've no feedback for correcting balance? And drop foot, associated with the stenosis? Would love to hear some ideas! Blessings to Bob. Miss his presence but like the new addition of other therapists. Keep up the good work!

On July 23, I suffered a right proximal humerous fracture. Because I fell. People, you donʼt ever want this.
Why I am commenting is not just to explain the seriousness of a fall as a senior (I just turned 65); I want to comment on this video being on point.
My PTA just started me on every one of these. I was overwhelmed getting all of these at once. When I did them with her here, my muscle memory or something perked up and said “more please” as I able to do these with ease. I had done them as part of my cardio more than 15 years ago.
I will follow you guys, going slowly, until I am cleared medically to start up my old routine, which is much more vigorous.

One thing you might mention which I think affects me is afib (I'm 72). A couple months ago I had a heart block and a stroke walking down the street. It was my cerebellum that was affected and that can result in balance deficits. I've largely recovered as I've been walking seven miles a day and have done some hiking as well. I was riding my bike a few hundred miles a month before that. In recovery I noticed that I would feel "a little spacey" once in a while and I associated it with drinking coffee or stroke remnants. But in retrospect, my balance is fine (I do yoga and some pilates as well). But I did trip last summer on a trail, and fell way to the side. I thought it might have been weak glute meds, but now I think it some afib making me spacey. Another thing is that as a biker, my calves and hamstrings tend to be tight - this makes your toe point downward when you lift your foot - not a good thing for dragging it on the ground and tripping.Your exercises are all good, but there are more things to be considered.

Thank you both so much. This is a brilliant video. I've had three hip replacements and find the 'sudden stop and side walk' the most difficult in life. Suddenly finding a car appearing whilst i'm crossing the road worries me most as it's not possible, at the moment, to stop suddenly without falling! I will practice the video until i've perfected it. Thank you again.

This is very helpful. I hope you have a playlist of your videos on healthy aging. I'm in my 70s, and had labyrinthitis in my 20s that lasted for months. Afterwards i was okay but found I couldn't ride a bike anymore. I feel my balance has been effected and worse now. I have been an avid hiker (still am but got sciatica and now can't--though better now--it's also 100 during the day). I have found my hikes are getting easier and less interesting though. But it is what I feel safe with. I had PT working with balance for a few months which was helpful.

Tai chi is the single best thing I have found for improving balance. There is an emphasis on weight shifting which increases your conscious of where your weight is. Since I started taking tai chi classes, I can now stand on one foot for a lot longer than the 10 seconds that are associated with longevity, and if I DO stumble, I'm better able to right myself. Also: Where's Bob?

Thank you so much again for your video! As for the ears, I had regular wax build up and was going to an audiologist every four months to get the wax removed. Then I heard through this research center - A.R.E. - Association for Research and Enlightenment, that the late Edgar Cayce who was the Father of Holistic Medicine, recommended just putting drops of olive oil in your ears daily and the wax will disolve. I did this 2 x's per day a couple weeks prior to my next appointment with the Audiologist. When she looked in my ears this time, she screamed and said, "Oh my God! Oh my God! This is amazing! There's no wax in your ears! They're completely clear!" I told her what I've been doing, and she kept saying it was amazing. I continue to put olive oil drops in my ears a few times per week as maintenance and haven't been back to the Audiologist since. Also, the late Edgar Cayce recommended head and beck exercises to improve hearing by slowly rotating the head 3 x's to the right and the left, head back and foreward 3 x's, and then side to side 3x's. This is very good for even your eyes. I know a retired woman doctor at 92 yrs. young who uses the olive oil in her ears regularly and does the head and neck exercises daily and her hearing is 💯%. And actually so is her eyesight. She swears by Edgar Cayce's suggestions, and of course for the eyes, she makes sure she gets adequate vitamin A in her diet. Good Luck everyone!😊

Two suggestions: Military & Police run-through old used tires!
Old used tires are an excellent walk-through for senior’s reminding one to pickup your feet when walking!, & secondly, tires are a semi-soft landing! Second suggestion: tight rope walkers always carry a horizontal balance bar for increased balance!, which a similar balance bar would be a great tool for balance-therapy. A hardware store sells insulation for hot water pipes & air conditioner coolant lines, which can easily be placed over a homemade balance bar for protective padding!
