- Your sound should come out freely and if you are struggling in getting a free-blowing sound, one of the main causes is that you might be overworking your facial muscles.
It is very common for developing students to tighten their faces when playing...and I don't blame you as there are so many things you have to remember).
So, the key to solving this is by relaxing the face and understand the right amount of tension that you need (and it's less than you think).
I constantly tell our students to use what I call the "Ocean Sound" technique to help relax the facial muscles and allow your sound to, literally, breathe.
In a nutshell, blow hot and slow air (as if you were yawing or warming up your hands) and this will solve it.
