- We purchased a full annex for the van! Was it worth it? Is it a hassle putting it up? Is there any value in having it?

Hi guys a fan here. My van is 26ft long that’s internal and have an annex similar to yours with a few differences. Instead of rolling the fly screens up it undo the zippers put a ocky strap in each corner attached to a ground peg and pull the bottom out about 18 inches. You will need eyelits on the flaps. It gives you ventilation and privacy. I would also purchase. 2 tent post and drill a hole in the awning cylinder to give more support. Mine has these and I attach the walls to tent poles via Velcro straps that are stitched into the wall. Tie the corners post with tent ropes. Also lower wall should have holes for pegs. Your floor should sit over the top of the skirt flashing to keep little problems out. Enjoy your channel. Cheers Ken

Hi Guys, yes we have a similar size van and agree with your coments, the only negative comment we have had from a near van was they are impersonal, but they spent a lot of time with us when it was cold and raining. Any stay over two weeks we consider using it otherwise the screens come out, happy travelling and stay safe.

I have twice had snakes wander up behind me from under the vehicle as I sat with my back to it. I bush camp a lot so a skirt is a must have for me.

Good video. Had an annexe many years ago, set up an area with camp beds for the kids, which was great. Now I'm a grey nomad and still unsure about an annexe but think the skirt is a great idea

We have full ttime caravaners for oveer 8 years and we have always put up our annex if we are staying a week or longer, ours is the older style heavy vinyl style, we are looking at replacing it as its become a big tired. I sspend most day out in the annex, its even better when you get a wet season downpour your not cooped up inside the van.
Yeah we are loving the annex, especially at the moment while we are spending a month at a time in places around the Northern Rivers area NSW. Had a few rainy days and the annex is so handy

Ultimately comes down to whether you were going to be staying in one place for longer than 3 or 4 weeks. If so, I would definitely look at putting up an annex. Anything less, that's a no from me it can stay packed away. We are intending on doing some free camping and would not consider putting up in those conditions however if we found a place we liked and wanted to stay longer, we would put the annex up and stay for a month or longer.
Yes that's what we are finding, certainly less than a week is a definite no, but over a week it then depends on location and site. Not sure about how the weather impacts our decision to put it up yet? Thanks for the feedback

looks a lot better than our family annex from the 70's with all the polls and ropes and pegs 😄but we still had a great time

It would be nice to see somebody diy an annexe. Shade cloth ,contact glue, no sewing, small ropes , no Velcro , maybe diy more. Questions like how did you make it , more than where did you buy it?

Hi Paul and Wend, great video and information on an enclosed awning. For 16kg it looks like a great addition, does it work well against combatting the Mozzies and Flies.

Hi guys, did you consider a zip in floor? In summer we want the kids to sleep in our annex. Last year we had a scorpion slither inside. Did your annex builder provide a floor option? If so, can you indicate where they generally position the zips (probably need to be around 150mmm off the ground as zips at ground level would let water ingress) & how much extra that would all cost?
Hi Mark, no we didn’t consider a built in floor. Not sue if they even offer it?

My camper trailer came with an annex - we have never used it. Too many poles, too much time to set up and far too much weight. Instead we opted for a gazebo with midge mesh tent...never used that either, though that has some chance of getting used.
Yeah that’s the risk buying it. We will we use it but how often? Fortunately there are no poles just the canvas. Guess time will tell

Hi Liz,thank you and welcome 😊We usually store it under the bed as it packs nice and flat. However if we have to pack it away wet it is a bit more tricky. We will just put it in the back of the car and then as soon as possible we will get it out to dry and then repack it. But storage is always an issue for larger items. Hope that was helpful

Welcome! We do use it a bit. We’re stopped for a month now and have it up. It’s great for extra space. We’ve used the skirt a lot

Only problem is if you have to pack when its time to move on it away ehen wet then unable to dry it out straight away.
Yep that is an issue for sure! We saw some folk packing up in the rain the other day and thought that same thing
