Just watched this as part of CE course. I want to address the last stronghold of implicit bias left unaddressed and perfectly depicted in your video. When recounting how bias was addressed by holding blind auditions for orchestras, those holding auditions were in suits from chins on down and the chosen female was revealed in a tank top with clearly drawn breasts and armpit holes halfway down her rib cage.

I've taken a few of them and I feel like these tests actually lead you to show certain bias. I would be interested to see how the results change if the "negative" feature was associated with the positive words first.

The test has absolutely nothing to do with bias. It's literally a memory game and has no real standing. It should not be considered a study.

  • @yerrzokraise8531
    @yerrzokraise8531 3 роки тому +17

Implicit bias testing when concerning race or discrimination is very controversial. Meta studies have shown that those tests are not scientifically verifiable ( you take the test 3 times you get 3 different results), full of false positives, does not predict behavior and can't be trained out of. Many psychologist state that they do not even know what it is testing. Even the founders claims that the tests are made for aggregates can be considered unfounded because of the inconsistency of them at the individual level. Do your own research if you do not believe this.

The Asian girl said her friend was biased because she believed, based on her friend saying: "you are good at math you are good at science." This might not have been based on an unconscious bias but based on her friend's observations that she was better at math and science than she was. This might show the Asian student's bias rather than the bias she attributed to her friend.

So, is there no such thing as implicit bias agaisnt white males? I saw a lot of diveristy in this video talking about how others need to do better, the only thing I didn't see was any example of implicit bias agaisnt white males, does it just not exist? I would even go as far as to say this video had implicit bias agaisnt white conservatives. During this video, 4:54, there was a drawing of white conservatives marching behind the bias monster with what was clearly meant to be a MAGA hat, one lady is carrying a confederate flag, and there are Confederate statues near them. During this picture, the narrator says that the IAT shows how "groups of people will act on average, and that is worrisome." This is a clear stereotype and showing implicit bias agaisnt white conservatives, this is meant to paint the majority of conservatives and Trump supporters as racist. This video is clearly politicized, and it doesn't surprise me since it comes from such a far left univeristy, tu.

Multiple times I was yelled at by my manager in front of customers because of my “white privilege.” She assumed I had never had a job and that my life had been nothing but easy due to my skin color. Without knowing anything about me. Her implicit bias quickly turned very apparent and hostile during every shift that she was my manager. Her supervisor said simply “when you work for her, stay away from her” that was all. Of course your statement is false...they have NOT...by any stretch of the imagination...always had the upper hand. More white people have been enslaved in the history of humanity than ANY other race of people. They have been persecuted and murdered at nearly the same rate as the people of modern China. The difference? White people buckled down, bettered themselves and overcame all of their historic problems ON THEIR OWN...if they seem to have the "upper hand" in western society...ITS BECAUSE THEY BUILT that society...the greatest society mankind has ever known...belittling them and punishing them for their accomplishments won't bring any other group up...that isn't how whites built the west...and it won't do anything good for the groups too lazy to build themselves up instead of trying to tear others down.

They need to start doing Blind interviews where you speak into a box that changes the sound of your voice so it is unidentifiable to any particular racial group, where they can't see you, and where they don't know your name. And until that blind interview is completed, and after they decide you're good enough for the job, you should not have to reveal your race or name. I know it sounds unrealistic, but the truth of the matter is as long as you have a name that can link you to you to a particular ethnic group or they can see that you belong to one, or they think they can tell by the tone of your voice, your chances will always be less. And that is real.

I think a schema is basically referring to how implicit bias is often used to convey why people have "prejudices". I would highly recommend the video Im about to link then coming back to this one to see what you think.
Then, if you're interested in going further down the rabbit hole look up divergent evolution and secular creationism. I have literally had my worldview turned upside down in the last few years, slowly at first, then these ideologies that seemed so distant years ago all of the sudden seemed so clearly justifiable in the context of historical conquest.
If you want further information on implicit vs explicit reasoning I can share a video that far better illustrates why civilizations that have come before us have failed when denying how big of a role implicit traits play in determining characteristics of a person. We all agree that dogs have different characteristics but we're told in humans that the variances between our species, aka subspecies are somehow different to that of dogs. Its all so obvious that some dogs are more dangerous than others and ignoring implicit bias is like saying Ive pet a Chihuahua so I somehow now have the explicit knowledge that I can pet a pit bull, and why stop there? A wolf is still a dog so now I should pet that! You can see how dangerous it is to completely ignore implicit bias.
Implicit traits outside my European gene pool are likely vastly different than those of African decent, even if we shared common ancestors thousands of years ago. It's not that Im saying one is better than the other, it's admitting that they evolved differently with completely different environmental and cultural pressures. This is the only way to explain the differences in IQ which even the most liberal studies show no matter what environmental factors come about, IQ is already determined to be about the same as your birth parents 60-70% of the time. The twin experiments are the best example of this fact. ua-cam.com/video/9cls-nGTjoE/v-deo.html

What was the rate of growth of the percentage of females in orchestras before the study? Was it the same, less than, or greater than the rate after the general change in audition conditions? Were there any controls in the study that took into account the increasing role in society of women in general?
What were the implicit biases held by Blacks in the study? Were there any anti-White biases held by Blacks? Were there Anti-Asian biases, perhaps, given that 85% of Asian assaults in San Francisco were committed by Blacks.
If there were Black biases noted in the study, do you justify them? If so, then shouldn't Whites or Asians be justified in their anti-Black biases?

I disagree with much of this video. In what world do doctors recommend less pain medication for black people? Honestly alot of this stuff, like saying implicit bias is deep rooted and that prejudice is ingrained in us just keeps the race problem going.

I work in healthcare. One week after my mother's knee replacement surgery, the doctor decided she didn't pain medication any more because she needed to be weened off before she could become addicted. It's standard for narcotic pain medication to not be discontinued for nearly a month, doesn't always last that long, but that's near the standard. The doctor wanted to take my mother's pain medication before she could even go to the bathroom under her own power. This is a real issue. Ask some of your friends who are people of color what their experience has been. It may reinforce your position, but it also may change. All the best.

@@RollerBear123 I would highly recommend the video Im about to link then coming back to this one to see what you think.
If you want further information on implicit vs explicit reasoning I can share a video that far better illustrates why civilizations that have come before us have failed when denying how big of a role implicit traits and bias's play in determining characteristics of a person, largely irrespective of environmental factors.
We all agree that dogs have different characteristics but we're told in humans that the variances between our species, aka subspecies are somehow magically different to that of dogs. Only by the content of their character should you judge someone, sure, but denying any implicit/genetic differences gives people this idea that they should have forced equality of outcome rather than true equality which is the equality of opportunity.
Its all so obvious that some dogs are more dangerous than others and ignoring implicit bias is like saying Ive pet a Chihuahua so I somehow now have the explicit knowledge that I can pet a pit bull, and why stop there? A wolf is still a dog so now I should pet that! You can see how dangerous it is to completely ignore implicit bias, and in fact, from a young age we are taught the opposite. We know this to be true because people who are the least "prejudice" towards any race/nation, no matter how bad they actually are, will always be the ones who don't actually have to live alongside the group. This is wrong, they're anthropomorphizing the negro, in the same way people who never spend time with the dangerous breeds of dogs are the ones who refuse to admit that those dogs, the same ones they've never cared to have as a Pet or be around, they're the ones who ironically stick up for and say it deserves the same petting that the little friendly doggies get. "How could you not pet that dog?!" Give me a break, its denial of reality and I don't deny that race exists. The moment when Charles Darwin's theory gets good is when he speaks of divergent evolution, yet that's the moment we're told not to look any farther because Darwin puts "his own" racial prejudice into the scientific field that he literally invented. Such a reach considering the man was not racist at all, just pointing out what he saw. Any professor that was still talking about divergent evolution in the 70's had to have armed guards around them. Imagine an idea being so powerful that people want you killed for sharing it. The true terrible ideas of society are never met with violence, they're met with mockery. If these arguments Im exposing you to you were so bad that they can immediately be labeled as such, they would be easy to debunk and be available to everyone to show them for what they really are; a bad idea.
Just like dogs, the magic scientists may try calling us one species, but in reality there are many breeds, with just as many external differences as cognitive differences, just like all animals. Denying this will cause a repeat of history, when you look back on history and think its so easy to see where they went wrong, just remember, embracing explicit knowledge to argue against implicit bias is literally what has caused the collapse of hundreds of nations before us.
Implicit traits outside my European gene pool are likely vastly different than those of African decent, even if we shared common ancestors thousands of years ago. It's not that Im saying one is better than the other, it's admitting that they evolved differently with completely different environmental and cultural pressures, and their own implicit bias's and should've remained separated. We are the only nation in history where the supposed oppressed group, instead of fighting for independence, fought for desegregation. First equality of opportunity, but that wasn't enough, now we've been trying to force equality of outcome for the last 50 years and the black community is worse in nearly every way than they were in the 60's.
They were just coming out of curfews and now look what they've done to themselves with the help of those guilty whites that parade the black people around like their newest toy. These changes in "the human race", though slower than dogs who were artificially selected, are still present and are the only way to account for why black people are on average 20% less successful than the citizens of the nation they inhabit. This is why we should've realized they will never be happy unless they have more than us, and even then they will still find ways to be the victim because everyone has allowed them to claim this who didn't actually have to deal with them. Black people should be thanking Americans, not the other way around. Built this country.... give me a break ua-cam.com/video/9cls-nGTjoE/v-deo.html

A person’s mannerisms and the way others react are so complicated and the science so uncertain regarding the psychological reasons why a person acts or reacts the he does , this notion of implicit bias is another attempt to exaggerate discrimination in society for ulterior motives. The only bias I saw during this video was quite explicit - the anti white prejudice in the image of the parade of stereotypes in a line carrying the Rebel Flag. There’s nothing wrong with the Confederate flag, it’s an historical artifact and obsessing over it indicates intolerance rather anything it represents. It shows how the people making this video have some soul exploration to do, certainly before they can presume to lecture others about subconscious thoughts.
There are a lot of ways people evaluate one another-implicit bias is nonsense.

I think that what the video fails to address is the actual nuance associated with the term "bias".
Fact is there is more honestly a bias that is misplaced (like say a prejudice) which is effectively an unmerited perspective towards a person and even a group of people and a well placed bias (like say w/ good judgment) which is effectively based on a historically merited perspective towards a person and even a group of people.
It would be ludicrous for a bully to beat someone up on a playground repeatedly and then decry that there is an "implied bias" for some unmerited reason. No the merited reason is that he has a history of unprincipled, malicious, selfish and violent behavior. That if "labeled something else" (ie a bias) then fails to address whatever the real problem is. In this scenario the victim remains a potential victim and the perpetrator remains unbridled and unrehabilitated if left to social constructs like "implied bias".

The video is about how to overcome implicit bias and stereotypes, and I am watching it as part of the NJ CE Fair Housing requirement.
The narrator just got finished saying that women used to hold relatively small number of seats in orchestra until orchestras starting holding blind auditions. When auditions were done behind a curtain, the number of women doubled.
    Cool, right?
But then why is the woman auditioning for an orchestra in a skimpy tank top and winking at the men as they smirk at her?
Why are they stereotyping women in a video about how to overcome stereotypes?
I seriously have better things to do with my time than post this.
Like finish my CE or go sell a house or play outside in the spring weather.
But really? What is this teaching our culture about women? What is it saying to our girls?
There is nothing wrong with wearing skimpy clothes.
There is nothing wrong with winking.
There is nothing wrong with women expressing sexuality.
But there is something wrong with showing a scantily dressed, winking woman as an example of how NOT to stereotype.
    Jeez....
    We can do better.

4:50 *shows a picture of white people marching under a confederate flag*
"It still indicates how groups of people will act on average, and that is worrisome."
Why is it worrisome? Specifically... why is it worrisome that white rural folk would act in their own best interest? I would really like to know why they think that is 'worrisome,' when every group does that. Do they think that modern white Americans are somehow more dangerous than everyone else? That we are somehow more capable and organized, and thus can do more damage to people and society if we so choose? That sounds like a bias stereotype to me, one that smacks of a white supremacist mindset.
This is exactly why I left the left. Pseudo science... the left has embraced pseudo science. And I'm not going to be part of any movement that promotes this half baked phrenology.

Hiring managers want to get the best candidate in the shortest amount of time. I have a hard time believing they would throw out a resume of an equally qualified minority, without a reason. I.e., typos, unprofessionalism, etc. I would like to know their basis for "equally qualified." Education, experience, extra-curricular...it all plays in. Two people with same education doesn't equal same qualifications if one person has experience or better grades than the other.

    • @SB-gq7fp
      @SB-gq7fp Рік тому +1

There have been numerous studies done on this over hundreds of years. Even the military has equal opportunity offices on every base because people are literally in an environment that strips them to nothing and gives us equal opportunities and experience, but minorities and women are still unevenly picked for jobs and opportunities within the military, despite literally having the same qualifications. Same uniform, pay, and everything.
A majority of our pilots are hand-selected white males, despite many women and minorities having equal or greater qualifications to do such a job and the military is well-aware of this issue and holds regular diversity meetings.
Is it really still unbelievable that marginalized groups face discrimination even after the hundreds of years of scholarly, scientific, anthropologic, and government-funded surveys, work and school rules, state, local, and government laws, ongoing HR training, military briefings and movements? Everyone's lying? That isn't even logical more than it is clearly your denial based in implicit bias.
This video displays multiple studies verifying similar evidence over millions of subjects, but it's still "hard to believe" that despite Rosa Parks' death in the 21st century, all discrimination has simply vanished.

This is propaganda designed to remove discrimination. Discrimination is very important in identifying who is and is not allowed into your house. To identify what is good or bad food. Who to have children with. What restaurant is good.
This anti-bias training basically owers the bar. It forces the majority to become obedient to a loud and angry minority.

This video is so full of crap. Anecdotal evidence that only proves that people have experienced... something. Maybe that girl is good at math.Or her friend wasn't good at math and she was just better at it. She clearly believes that "all Asians are good at math" stereotype to some degree since she's the one who said it out loud. Maybe that Latino Lieutenant was treated like a poor leader because he was a poor leader. He doesn't even know why they treated him like that. Maybe people learn from their experiences and apply that knowledge to later encounters. You wouldn't go sticking your hand in a fire because it might not burn you the same way that other one did, and you wouldn't grab a fire extinguisher every time you saw a fire on a grill. If you're offended by someones experiences with someone who belongs to your "identity group" then I'm sure you can fix them by telling them how terrible they are and how much better you are than them

Presupposed in dogma about bias is what those biases might be: when people tout “systems of oppression” THEIR capricious, biased, and oppressive ideas of who is privileged of who oppressed are the ONLY deciding factor, and are considered to be unassailable. There is no impartial, evidence based discussion of what individuals are objectively “oppressed” or “privileged”. Who gets to decide who is oppressed and by how much? (Answer: that highly subjective determination is in the hands of people with an axe to grind) What’s the formula for this woke calculus? How do we know when there is no more oppression? Is such a thing even feasible? There is no turning back from officially elevating collectivist blood feud above individual rights and liberties in our civilization.
