Very interesting history. I noticed that the Drewery switchstand changed sides of the track from 8:48 to 12:18.

Non dynamic GP38, that might have been one of the PRSL locomotives.

The photo at 8:06 shows NYC 675 pulling away from a northbound MC train to Niles at the switch to Drewery's Brewery. The switcher and its caboose will "hide" in Drewery's spur to let the freight (with hoppers on the head end) go north. Under union labor agreements, NYC crews had to lead trains on the NYC...so this was a regular occurrence for trains headed north out of Olivers Yard to the old MC!

Very Interesting result of the ownership. So the switcher was left behind like a helper? What about sound bounds same in reverse?

@@michianamainlines3538 Correct, the switcher went back to Olivers Yard. On the southbound move, the switcher could just wait on the mainline for the inbound train...although I don't know if this practice happened on those moves. It could be that only trains originating in Olivers Yard were subject to the rule.

Here is some information on that switch engine caboose and GP nine that’s sitting there at Vassar Avenue. I went to Holy Cross school for eight years so I was very familiar with that operation what they’re doing there is the second locomotive is a Michigan central engine that’s not allowed to come out of the Oliver Street yard under its own power so the switch engine and caboose pulled him to Vassar Avenue where apparently the rules changed the switch engine with Denon couple pulled into the Druery siding and let the road diesel go onto Niles . This was a daily operation where the road diesel would come down from Niles in the mid morning and go to the Oliver Street yard under his own power drop his trailer and pick up the new one. The coal line actually crossed both the grand trunk mainline do you New York central main line and the south shoreline and orange Street before it got to the area in the photo. in the early 50s this was steam powered using New York central I think 282 type locomotives on this line I was very young in early grade school so that’s all I know about it I hope this helps thank you.. Michiana main lines you’re free to contact me if you want more information on this glad to help.

That is what I have since learned. My experience was under CR so that was new to me.
