Conrail South Bend Pictures and History

A look at Conrail in South Bend Indiana in the 80,s and 90,s. Specifically the The South Bend to Niles Line and MC connector as a portion of it was called. This video looks at maps and Train pictures in the west side of South Bend to the Notre Dame University Campus area. Streets shown Circle Ave,College,Orange,Werwinski,Vassar,Woodward,US31/933 and Douglas.
Locations include Hurwich Iron,Old Drewry,s Notre Dame Power and St. Mary,s power.

My grandmother lived in the 1200 Block of West Washington. Right on the corner of Elm and Washington.

Great video. Love looking back and remembering all of the areas you looked at. I grew up on the West side of town not far from Olive and Sample and did not get up North very much. Are you thinking of doing something like this for the NJ, I & I?

When you showed Douglas and 933 with the train crossing it looked like there was a bridge in the background, was that the toll road access? Obviously gone now, however I don't ever remember a bridge there, I'm 32, so that must've been removed in at least the mid 90s or before.

That was the old Toll road entrance ramp that crossed over the Niles SB line. After abandonment they made it ground level like it is now.
