Chase The Express was developed by Sugar & Rockets, and was published by Sony Computer Entertainment and Activision.
Available on PlayStation.
It was a fairly good game, I think it was overlooked by most simply because the PS2 came out just a few weeks/months after this game came out. I remember renting it from the local store and ended up having it for about 3 weeks to replay it for the alternate endings, plus the part with the two trains racing was particularly tricky. Almost like if they made Under Siege 2 into a game although the lead character looks more like Keanu Reeves than Steven Segal ;)
I think the generic uninspired puzzles along with the game basically being a backtracking simulator with really clunky combat its entire way through didn't help at all to boost the game's reputation as a classic. Otherwise the story and its pacing was actually decent, and it's one of the few titles I would classify as having a survival horror atmosphere with no actual horror elements.
I remember this game today. A great game indeed.
Resident Evil meets Rainbow 6.
I never saw this game in the stores back then. I just recall seeing an ad for it in a magazine and on the back of another PS1 game's instruction manual.
Did eventually find a used copy and it is pretty fun. Pretty much a game version of that Steven Segall film.
Shame it wasn't released digitally on PS3 or Ps vita.
Honestly? I think, arguably, the main issue this game faced starts with the truly DREADFUL title "Chase The Express" coupled with box art that doesn't convey the the true nature of the game - positively or accurately.
I know someone commented that the US title is cliche/generic, but, combined with the US art, does a better job of trying to convey what the game is about 🤷♂️
Truthfully, there is SO much to be said for branding and then marketing properties appropriately.
The casual gamer sees "Chase the Express" on the shelf with a blurry train and helicopter nestled between the cover art for Tenchu, C12 and whatever other titles were available at that time and, I imagine, the decision would have been fairly straightforward, unfortunately...
Seems underated along with Martian Gothic ❤️
Never heard of it before but knowing it has things in common with Resident Evil, I'm definitely interested.
I played it back in the days, and i liked it. it was not perfect but good enough.
#blueIdCard
#pair necklace of the angels
#psx win 21'?
Never finished
I bought this again on Ebay today, and Man the US version has such a generic title "Covert Ops: Nuclear Dawn"... I will just call it "Chase: the Express" thank you.
Chase the express far better title
Under siege 2 anyone?.
Good stuff, bro! I was just playing this for the first time randomly along with some other randomly picked games. I think I agree with some of the other people here, in that it might have been too late of a release for its own good (i.e., people moved on to later consoles, or were saving up to do so). I think it's a very good 7.5 outta 10 game that is sadly forgotten. Underrated, far from perfect, but worth playing.
I had a chipped copy of this game 💿as kid those was the days lol magazine's gave it a 3/10 because it was clunky and dated, and of course syphon filter was a much better game 😏
Fun game altogether! I remember liking it just for the dense, scary atmosphere, definitely resembling RE in moments.
Funny you mention 24 because the old guy in this looks like Kiefer Sutherland's father Donald lol
❤️👍
Is thst Hillary with the white hair? 😂😂😂😂
this brought back some fun memories and the review is spot on in terms of its fun, re-play value etc. also good to see you point out the issues with aiming as this was frustrating (more so than RE where wasted bullets were potential for being stuck in some parts). It is a shame that this title was overlooked and not remembered as it should have been. would love to see it get a port over to steam or even a remake somehow.
The game is very good. Much better than other RE clones. It's one of the best games on a train!
Great review.
Thanks!
