-----------------------------------
This video shows how to make a 'simple backrest cover' using the 'basic blind sewing' to attach the pieces together. A single 'listing steel rigid wire' is on front face to give shape to bolsters.
Strips of 'velcro' (hook-and-loop fasteners) on lower junction of backrest close the cover on this section. I could assert it works out perfectly.
The 'molding process' was done directly on pen-marked foam base. The 'reference marks' were also marked on the foam base then transferred to vinyl material. Very useful to ease sewing procedure.
The making of this basic cover would help us understand more complex designs. It also would be of great help if we have thought to upholster the seats of a car.
In a next video I will show another simple way to make the headrest.
I hope you enjoy the video and find it useful!

Hello from France,

Great job, thank you for your wonderful way of communicating the idea, simply and professionally, so that the novice will see that after watching your work, everything becomes easy and again, thank you, good luck
A novice would be just as lost as I am watching this vid. Left out way to many key steps. Only thing I leaned on part 2 was how to put seat cover back on and how to cut headrest holes.
Great videos! Not a word spoken but clearly explained.

Very beautiful as if you are doing an operation and not just dressing a chair
fantastic job!
Perfecto, y sin una sola arruga!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

If the seats only have the middle part made out of fabric, can you reuse the the rest of the cushion cover, or does it all get scrapped?
Cechaflo, you have the greatest hands. I’m guessing from many many seat covers. Thank You for your most informative videos. One quick question... can I do the same procedure with leather? Your vinyl material seems more stretchy than leather.
Procedures are similar with leather material. If working with leather, it is also important like vinyl to determine the 'stretchy side' in order to mark and cut the pieces following this rule. Some pieces require to consider the 'stretchy side' position to give the shape with no much effort while fitting the cover.

Can you do basic for back row seating?
Savršeno,pozdrav iz Hrvatske, Dubrovnik
Excellent work, as always ! But what about most of the modern car seats that have side airbags in it. Will the airbag be able to tear the strong nappa leather?
Hello, A car seats that comes with 'side attached air bag' have an 'opening' on the side of their covers. This 'opening' is the same 'lateral seam' which was sewn with a 'special thread' that breaks immediately after the air bag deployment.
The Hog Ring Forum stands out some opinions about it:

Great video! What material is the first cover made of?
It was made of upholstery fabric.
What tool is that for the wires running down the seams of the chair holding the fabric to it
Those are called 'hog ring pliers'.www.amazon.com/hog-ring-pliers/s?k=hog+ring+pliers
Do you find this method more accurate than using the old pieces for pattern?
Different methods of patterning. If the old pieces are in good shape it could be done that way. If you have none, then this practical method is useful. Another way of patterning from scratch is shown in these videos:ua-cam.com/video/tsuhmX7mDAQ/v-deo.html
Do you template half and mirror for the other side or do you template every single piece individually?
Yes, I template half and mirror for the other side.
Good job!But why without decorating stitch? Isn't necessary?
I think it is the most basic process for a beginner to do a car seat. After mastering this basics, we could add on top view stitches such as, 'oversewing', 'double stitches, or piping. BTW, this basics can be found in some new cars in the market.
Thanks for watching!
What is the name of the foam or what kind foam at the back of the leather
I have used 'headliner material' which has 1/4" foam already glued down.
This demonstration is done in 'automotive vinyl material'.
I've noticed in all of your work that involves adding sew foam to the back of vinyl, you always stitch the entire periphery of each piece before final assembly.
Being that the foam is glued to the vinyl and the joining stiching locks everything together at assembly, could you please explain why this additional step ( periphery stitching) is important?
It leaves a clean edge to align you panels with. A lot of auto upholstery guys do it. I find it does help me see the bottom piece better and alignment snips. I use the 3M spray glue. Works for me. This is A plus work he’s doing though.
Dear Joe, sorry for delay in replying. I did not see well the comment. It is a very interesting question. The peripheral stitching, as you said locks everything together to be sewn down to the other side panels. Foamed designs require this step. To flatten mjuch more the edge it is advisable to sew to lines, one on the very edge and the other 8 mm from close tho the inside. My final closing sewing will be at 10 mm.
An overlock sewing machine would do it much better. As Highvelocity said, it leaves a flat clelan edge to align and sew the pieces together.

👏👏👏👏👏
What thread do you use, normal cotton and thickness.
Polyester thread 92 size

is this material the same as recycled or re-bonded leather? I feel this is the material new cars are coming with when claiming they are leather seats....
This material is the same 'standard vinyl' used in auto upholstery, furniture and others.
The 'top view or main panels' of some car seats are covered in leather. The 'synthetic/vinyl material' is used for lateral, back panels and other hidden parts.
Till now, I cannot figure out why the seats are not fully upholstered in leather. But, some reasons should the manufacturers have.
As you said in your comment some cars are sold as if their interiors are fully upholstered in leather and they really have 'a synthetic imitation leather' or 'bycast leather'

why do you have so many private videos now ? i wanted to use one of them as a guide but now i cant use it anymore
Dear friend, I have taken this decision until finding out what is real happening about. One of my youtubers informed me he was cheated from a 'fake upholstery school' in Spain that was selling partially or total of my upholstery courses related to steering wheels (one of 3 hours and the other of 4 hours plus many support videos). He bought the course in 390 Euros. Supposedly, he had payed in advance the required amount of money and the surprise was these people sent him my video-courses which I had free on youtube.
Sorry for this inconvenience.
What sew foam was you using 1/2 or 1/4
It is foam backed headliner material 1/4".
Thank you and what is the best dye to use for panels or dash
