@MrKingHari Severe meaning broken bones, highly unlikely... the shinai will break before bones do, however it is useful for self defense as it is more than strong enough to knock out or hurt someone...
Well if you're wearing gear(bogu) and you hit on target it's not gonna hurt at all, obviously if you just wack someone out of the blue with it it's not rigid like a brokken but it will hurt them yes...

i made one out of 4 bamboo peices and some string and duct tape (a bad one!)
