- Nintendo released their little white box, the Wii, over 15 years ago and it's legacy is...interesting. As a big fan of the console since it's inception, I have a whole lot to talk about, so come hear me rave about the Wii for 30 minutes!

"Everybody Votes" was such a fantastic concept of a channel, I really wish they'd bring it back as a Switch app or something. Really needs to be more of a thing nowadays just for giggles. Just random harmless questions just to see where you stand in things that don't affect anything, it was a fun little ritual to do every day.
It kind of came back in the form of Splatfest, but a more dedicated service would be great.
Can’t believe Nintendo invented democracy
The 2024 U.S presidential election should be held on the everybody votes channel
I was so sad when "Everybody Votes" died.
@@ModBros8434 I would so vote for Luigi
The Wii also had Mario Sport Mix, aka the most underrated game of all time. Seriously, no one talks about it, but it's a Mario game made by Square Enix where you can kill a Final Fantasy boss by chucking dodgeballs at it. Honestly used to be one of my favorites as a kid
Dang it, Square Enix! Why wasn't the White Mage from Sports Mix a spirit in Smash Ultimate? Instead we get that crappy Geno mii costume regurgitated from the 3DS and Wii U Smash games!
Mario Hoops 3-on-3 before that was also fantastic, wonderful use of DS's touchscreen to simulate basketball
I still think Pac-Man World 2 (non-GBA versions) is the most underrated game even after a couple decades (even though it’s one of my favourites, you don’t see it on a lot of lists of best video games, which is also the problem with the home console version of its predecessor Pac-Man World 1), but yeah, Mario Sports Mix, like its spiritual successor to Mario Hoops 3-on-3, also really deserves more mentions as modern classics because they sure can be fast-paced athletic fun to play!
PREACH IT, sports mix is fun as hell
wiimmfi supports it too! though i havent found it to be very active unfortunately
Mario Super Sluggers > Mario Sports Mix
the wii was the first console i played. i have so many fond memories of it just goofing around in mario galaxy, challenging my brothers in games like smash, mario kart and deblob. despite the shovelware and the motion controls being weird sometimes, the wii is amazing!
Past midnight in France, but I couldn't go to bed without watching this love letter to a console I like so much. Thank you for this retrospective (and for putting a few words about my work!), I believe you might have caught the interest of some "wii-players-to-be"' with this one!
Long live to Sin and Punishment!

Excellent retrospective. Glad some of my favourite underrated games like fortune street and crystal chronicles my life as a king were covered
I’m a simple man. When I see a new AntDude video, I watch it.
The Chicken Shooters originated from Germany
Theyre called "Moorhuhn" which closely translates to "swamp chicken"
The original Moorhuhn realesed on PC and had an integrated "buisesness screen", basically a sceen you can switch to that shows what should closely resemble a document you would work on, which could hypothetacilly give you the option to slack of durnig work
This series got as i said before a big hype due to its casual friendly nature and had therefore many sequels, of which none really gathered the attention as the first one did (theres even a Mario esque cart racer called "Moorhuhn Kart")
Thats why there are so many Wii ports of this game
There are a few good videos on this topic, but all of them are in german
For anyone who speaks german, the video created by MythosOfGaming is pretty well made and explains how Moorhuhn got such a big thing in basically notime
Nowadays the franchise is pretty dead since its initial appeal wore off i guess
It got remade for switch
The Wii is the embodiment of Nintendo for me.
Pure Fun with Friends and Family, something the Switch has only somewhat fulfilled, though i don’t know if that’s from getting older, or the switch not having as much charm.
Watching this video really put how stacked the Wii's library was. Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Wii Sports, Kirby's Epic Yarn and so much more. Didn't know about Deadly Creatures or the Mushroom 3D platformer, but they looked so cool too!
Proud Operation Rainfall participant here. Xenoblade Chronicles was PHENOMENAL on the Wii. That draw distance and the graphics were something else on the little white box.
Red Steel 2, Muramasa Demon Blade, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, Madworld, and Super Paper Mario are still among the best games I've played ever
Oh Spectrobes Origins too.
I love Mario Party 8 and Fortune Street. Still have them and play them with people occassionally.
Fun Fact about operation rainfall he didnt mention. Xenoblade Chronicles (And i think Pandora's Tower) were actually localised for a PAL audience (AU and EU) a full year before the USA. which only further pushed Operation Rainfall.
Source: I owned Xenoblade Chronicles in 2011
I am so happy to see Dewy’s Adventure get mentioned in this video! It’s a favorite of mine and I don’t see much talk about it so it’s great to see others who enjoy the game
Fragile Dreams is so good. Glad to see it got a mention here!
I want to give a shoutout to Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity for basically being an interactive series of episodes of the tv show, even bringing in all the original voice cast to play their respective characters, _all of them_
I don't know if you're gonna see this, but I just wanted to say that I've been really sad and anxious lately, and your videos have been doing a lit to help. Just thought I should say thanks.
10:45
thank you so much for mentioning pokepark
“We’re not out here doing cardio playing Donkey Kong” is now my catchphrase
Thanks AntDude
Dokapon Kingdom is definitely deserving of its mention. For those unfamiliar:
Take the board-based movement of Mario Party, add in JRPG style turn-based combat and some of the property mechanics from Monopoly, dress it up in an overly adorable art style, and fill it with sadistic glee. This game is amazingly fun and it's criminal that it only released on the Wii and PS2.
So happy to see zack and wiki get a mention! Super underrated imo
I paid a pretty penny for Dokapon Kingdom recently. And I can tell you, it is one of the best party games I have ever played. You owe it to yourself to find SOME way to play it, it's that good.
I got Sin & Punishment off Walmart for $5 and Metroid Prime Trilogy I got a steelbook copy from a rental place for $10. The Wii was an era where retailers would basically throw games worth hundreds of dollars in the trash because it was easier than gettng them off the shelf. I sadly think we'll never see stupidly cheap, rare games for sale again.
My absolute favorite wii games, in no particular order
. Mario Kart wii
. Galaxy 1 and 2
. Epic Mickey
. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
.Wii sports resort
For real though, the amount of mementoes I had with Epic Mickey and the Galaxy games is staggering!
Did not expect Little King Story to appear in the video, let alone the thumbnail.
Brawl was my first super smash bros game. I played it through USB loader GX and Wii flow.
I don't know if anyone other than Scott the Woz wanted Chicken Shoot with their Wii.
BoomBlox was such a fun game! I played it a lot as a kid and often times instead of actually playing the game my sister and I would just throw the balls at the animal spectators.
Imagine how cooler of a video this would be with just the first half of the title
The era of the wii and DS and 3DS was definitely my favorite era between great games and allot of fun and the amazing virtual console on the wii and 3DS was amazing also the wii shop had some great digital only games also. But at the end of the day I still think the GameCube is my favorite console of all time.
AntDude mentioned The Munchables. My life is complete.
I remember seeing a demo for Sin & Punishment: Star Successor at GameStop, and I was like, "I have no idea what this is, but I need it." So, I bought it
i need to play all of the chicken shooting games
My Sims was cute. Water Warfare held me over till the next halo came out with its online play and bit of nice music. Pokemon Rumble was awesome and has its start in Wiiware. I was first introduced to Cave Story through the Wii, too and got it for the dsi later.
Muramasa The Demon Blade is an amazing game.
Oh man Fluidity! I freaking LOVED that game! So good!
Man, this Nintendo compared to the Nintendo we have now is heartbreaking. Back then, we had virtual console, free online, and the presentation was wonderful, all thanks to Iwata. When he died, so did Nintendo's heart and soul. (For their corporate side)
Great video! I'm so glad you brought up Little Kings Story. That game goes hard! Another one I really liked was Silent Hill Shattered Memories. I haven't played the original series. But on its own merits its a really cool horror game!
If there is one game that makes me miss having a Wii, it's Silent Hill Shattered Memories. It's not my favorite game in that series, but using the Wii remote to interact with puzzles and using it to investigate your surroundings was a great time.
minor correction there antdude, most wii games can be played online, there are a bunch that can't, namely, Monster Hunter Tri.
Person: "The Wii had the most shovelware!"

9:20 WHAT?! HOW DID I NOT NOTICE!
I can't wait for period sitcom set in the 2000s to have an entire episode about the main character trying to get a Wii for Christmas And then never playing it again after the first 5 minutes
If the main character has kids they will play the crap out of it though
Let’s talk about our favorite stories associated with the wii, I’ll start
I remember when my grandmother used to look after two boys around like summer 2007, they had a wii and were playing wii sports they let me play with them and my 9 year old mind was blown. Later that Christmas I got my own wii it was a great memory of my life
SCREAMING at the passing mention of Trauma Center: New Blood. pls talk about the Trauma Center games ;w;
Also no PangYa?

I loved playing Xenoblade and Pandoras Tower ❤️❤️❤️
Just saying...
Sin & Punishment 2 with a mouse.
Absolutely fantastic.
31:45, did he just say "rose COLORED glasses"?
I don't care what anyone says, or even care if the Wii has been stripped of a lot of its features now. It's still a console I love to play on every now and again, and my favorite games to play on it are Elebits, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Super Mario Galaxy.
I'm really upset that disney canned Spectrobes series
Spectrobes Origins on wii is the best Spectrobes title out of the entire series
"The first time they tapped into their legacy game library"....
yeah and also the last time they would do that xD
I miss the old VC, that actually had good emulation, and worked like it should
You had problems with NSO? I don't.
Super Paper Mario is still a very underrated game
I always said that when the Revolution released, I was snatching up the green one. *sigh*

My time has come.
This pleases me to see the game getting more positive feedback. I have for years wanted this game to be revived as Capcom and Nintendo poorly advertised the game. I remember as a child having this game and despite literally not understanding most puzzles back then, it was one of the core Wii games of my Childhood and one of my favorites and will have moments where I go through phases for the game again. I always thought that a remastered or even an HD port would be fine, but I honestly wished for some over the top things for Zack and Wiki's revival. I thought an Amino would be cool to see having o e of Zack holding the Wiki Bell or with Wiki as he eats a bar of chocolate or maybe with a Treasure Chest or the Golden Skull of Captain Barbaros. There was a lot of ideas.
But probably the most far fetched idea I always wanted was to see Zack and Wiki as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It would've been a great way for the game to come back from the forgotten realm and give the larger audiences a taste of what these characters are like. I honestly felt like the one main fan who has been hoping, wishing, and trying to keep Zack and Wiki alive so there can always be a chance that Capcom and/or Nintendo could maybe recognize my, no, our call from the abyss to maybe bring this game and the lovable characters like Zack, Wiki, Barbaros, Captain Rose, and Johnny Style, all to be brought into the spotlight for once so they can have the attention they deserved all those years ago.
i am so glad SOMEONE remembers chick chick boom
man star successor was the shite I really love the high score feature as well so much fun beating ppl high scores online play sin and punishment .
p.s play Muramasa the demon blade as well is one my favorite games of all time.
Won't lie, as a kid I paid no attention to Wii... until they released Muramasa the Demon Blade. That's right, only bought a Wii in order to play Muramasa. Of course I ended up buying other games but, without that one game I wouldn't have bothered getting it in the first place.
It's also on the PS Vita.
@@Invidente7 Thank you for telling me but I already know about it. Of course, I also bought that version... in both English and Japanese. But the Wii version came out before the Vita version, before I knew that they would release the vita version.
Mini ninjas is very good, when I was a kid I thought that would be very boring cause of the name, but my mom bought it and I played and it was fucking great.
Brawl was not the game that unlocked homebrew. That was Twilight Princess.
I wish the switch menu had as much charm as the Wii
The Wii had a ton of SOUL. The music, UI, proper long awaited entries in franchises 🤗
Oh I see dbz budokai tenkichi3 in the back there such an amazing game the only other wii game I have besides sonic and the black knight
Would still rather play Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, Animal Crossing City Folk, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Metroid Other M, and Super Paper Mario then what passes for games being sold now. I barely remember what was shown in this year's Game Awards.
Welcome back!
The Wii is probably my favorite console of all time. But that might change in a few years with the Switch. When the games on the Wii were good, they were really good. Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 are my favorite games of all time.

Sonic colors released on DS*
you said it was a wii exclusive 'till ultimate(not smash)
The Wii was truly cool and plenty of strong decent games in general. I played it until 2014 and it was one of the consoles I "hacked" the most, alongside GBA, DS and the PS2. I haven't played most of the games presented here but I must admit that the hacking scene made it possible for me to discover some gems such as Final Fantasy the Crystal Bearers, Muramasa, Madworld, the Last Story or even Metroid M (I truly liked this game, it was a bit badder than the other Metroids but still a good game nonetheless)
I miss this homebrew scene. Sure there is one in the Switch but Nintendo made it so hard (allegedly) that it strips all the fun of it. Sure, they don't want people to pirate, but as you pointed out, for some people like me this is the only available opportunity that doesn't require paying an arm on ebay.
I mean..theres the smash modding scene for brawl and melee as well as the wii, but yeah i feel You :( At least we have the Pretendo Network coming for Wii U
bro, you left out Wipeout!!!! How could you?!?!? One of the greatest, glitchiest games of all time
29:32 Tbh I still really want to try that Mario Kart Wii mod to try the tons of tracks I have seen, but I kind of want to try that on Dolphin but i am unsure how to do that, I was able to do Project M on Dolphin but i am unable to do the same for the MKW mod
man oh man i wish i lived in the late 2000s

Justice for Dark Gary.
I'm probably the only human on earth who plays the Wii on a daily basis. XD Wii and Wii U. There's something about the Wii and Wii U's Nintendo charm that the Nintendo Switch doesn't have.
Please do a video on the Wii U ;-;
I remember liking The Wii and was really annoyed by the hardcore gamer hate for it. Like, you had two whole consoles for hardcore gaming. You’ll survive if one catered to casuals. Especially since Nintendo’s attempt at hardcores with the GameCube didn’t do so well. So of course they’re going to go another direction
Somebody count the number of times AntDude says we when not referring to the Wii.
Any Mario Party to me is fine
(At least the console ones)
Question: can you review skylanders as it’s both old and went on for a few years
Technically the wii wheel is not compatible with games that requires a nunchuck or a classic controller because you can't plug in anything.
I know, It sounds impossible
I literally didn't know anyone who had a Wii hooked up to the internet until like 2014 and that kid only had that cuz his mom wouldn't let him play cod on PSN so he played cod on wii
I saw an elebit in the thumbnail and immediately clicked
Yes, Fluidity made it in!
Sad he didn't talk about Wii channels and Wii link
I’m probably the only one that found this part funny (17:44)
God I love Dokapon Kingdom

I loved the Wii. It had a ton of great first party games. It was when I really got into playing games and like, beating them, because before I was more casual focused, I will freely admit. But it all changed with Mario Galaxy, and I will always stand by the first party stuff.
Not Chicken Blaster, though. I got that one for Christmas one year alongside the games I had asked for and Rayman Raving Rabbids as Chicken Blaster and the Rabbids were clearly bargain bin purchases… and one of those games I repressed so hard I actually thought Chicken Shoot was the one I owned before being reminded it was Chicken Blaster. And I am never forgiving you for bringing those memories back, that game was awful and it made me so angry the whole time.
Re4, prime trilogy, and mario kart wii alone make the console worth it even if virtual.console and gc support didn't exist
Special shout out to brawl and prince of persia 3
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is absolute perfection and bliss.
"Whatever man, shut up. I like video games"

@@Hithere-uz6wdyou know they still will 😂
I think it's pretty unfair how much flak the Wii gets for the amount of garbage on the system. I mean, the PS1 and PS2 both had over 4000 games if Wikipedia is anything to go by, you can't tell me most of those were winners.
Both of those console allow completey new game concept , new studio and lincense game a platform and system while with wii it had great intail sucess but as time went on that gimmick of motion control became hassle for company and player which result in to complete mess of situation where port of wii was complete crap

@@marioguy1225The NES has hundreds of great games, and a real controller. The Wii has 20 good games and tacked on waggle in almost every game. The Wii sucks.
@@Captain_Neckbeard the nes has so much terrible games the wii does too but they have their good games id say they are on the same boat mostly
Wii>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wii U.
I remember getting Twilight Princess for the Wii before getting the Wii itself because it was damn near impossible to actually get for a good while. I ended up spending weeks just reading the manual just wondering what the actual game was going to be like. I was practically crying when I came home from school and my mom revealed she actually managed to get a hold of one.
I will also never forget the Wii for being my official start to retro collecting. When I finally got my first job and my first paychecks, I went crazy at used game stores picking up hidden gems like Muramasa, Sakura Wars V, Trauma Center, FE Radiant Dawn, and more that just went under the radar. Sure it was the start of my library becoming too bloated for me to actually play them all, but I'll never look over my collection and regret ever purchasing any of these hidden classics.
Same for me, I bought the Nintendo Power Player's Guide for Twilight Princess before I actually owned the game back in December 2006 and read the entire guide before I even got the game lol
TRAUMA CENTER FAN
In my humble opinion, the Wii is Nintendo's best home console. It managed to represent everything Nintendo stands for and so much more. Dare I say, it was the most innovative console in history, and single-handedly changed the future of the gaming industry in more ways than one.
The only series that missed out were f zero, possibly star fox, pikmin and chibi robo(depending on how you define new play control
@@galfinsp7216 I typically don't count backwards compatibility, unless it is physically ported over to another console, which New Play Control is. Every console does miss out on a few franchises, as expected, but the Wii certainly has one of the higher counts thanks to its expansive library.
Except handicapped people....
The Wii is such a nostalgic console for me. I can’t count how much time I’ve spent as a kid making Miis in the Mii Maker, and playing Wii Sports Resort and Brawl. It had its problems (and it’s library is 90% shovelware, and it causes Nintendo to start slacking on hardware that still bites them to this day), but I still love this thing.
Also, Nintendo really needs to bring back the Virtual Console. It’s still bizarre how the Wii had the best retro support…
Its namely that nobody bought 90% of the stuff they ported, and most third parties have wizened up and realized they can release their own titles in collections, generating the best sales vs piecemeal.
Not anymore. . .
Man, the Wii Sports theme lives up to this day. They did not need to give a glorified tech demo such a good soundtrack, yet they did.
Now that's dedication.
I mean, Nintendo just didn't miss on music for the Wii. Except ironically the game where that was the focus. But for real, the shop channel DID NOT need to slap that hard. Even the third parties stepped up. Madworld and No More Hero's OST's are amazing and you can rock them day to day.
you haven't heard good video game music until you've listened to the sonic advance 3 ost

@@LandonEmma I have played it. Not my favourite Mario Kart but it was the first I played and I think it has the best soundtrack in the series.
"It is more important that these games get played than owned."
This is the best outlook for game preservation and emulation
Exactly - especially since Nintendo won't make a DIME from used game sales anyway, and I yet have to see an officially sanctioned and steadily available option to buy any previously physical Wii games digitally, let alone any WiiWare titles, now that the Wii Shop Channel is defunct.
I mean, sure. The Wii U had maybe... five digital rereleases of Wii games? But that'd require you to own a Wii U, which you can also only get used, and god knows how long the Wii U eShop will still be around for anyway.
But in case Nintendo is listening: I will just point out that both the Wii and the Switch both use Bluetooth to connect to their controllers, and that the Sensor bar was just a bunch of infrared LEDs in a box, with no actual connectivity to the console itself aside from power.
@@BrightSpark Well whaddayaknow. The Wii U Eshop's days are numbered.
@@pikksen7905 That was inevitable anyway. Unlike on PC, it doesn't make sense to run a digital storefront forever on a console as the consoles may get defunct over time, and the market gets increasingly smaller over time the older the system gets.
Not a fan of it, but it is understandable and - frankly - expected. Nintendo likely doesn't care enough to keep an online service secure if maybe a few thousand people use it. Plus, I seem to recall that people managed to crack into the CDN and download games straight from the official servers anyway.
@@BrightSpark Eh, that's a fair assessment.
This re-awakened all my history and nostalgia with the Wii! I usually see it as just an okay console, but this reminded me of the good ol' days I had with it, so thank you for bringing it all back. Some lost memories are now treasured again.
