My first one was mania. I cannot figure out how to play target. I just fall.. The wings do nothing almost. I get nowhere NOWHERE close to the target... Like a mile off. What's the deal is it just broken in Mania?
Honestly I’m just glad Sega is reviving some of their old properties, this game and streets of rage are honestly really cool and I’m just hoping we can see more of the them like jet set radio return as well
That could only ever be a Switch exclusive, and a mod for other platforms. It’s not financially feasible to make an additional stage where they’ll only see extra profits for one platform. If it only released on two or three platforms, maybe. But this released on six. (Seven if you count the Xbox Series S as it’s own platform)
Although I will never forgive Banana Mania for not remastering the Monkey Ball cutscenes, some might have argued they shouldn't have been remastered (no one needed to see Dr Bad Boons body), but its a masterpiece compared to watching the main characters dance REPEATEDLY. After the eighth time they did the same dances, I ended up breaking my Joy Con lol
Lmao you really think they had the budget to go in and remaster the cutscenes in HD. This is SEGA we are talking about. Half the games now adays they release they are only publishing not even developing.
@Signup Man please forgive them, for your own good. I know it’s small, and that the cutscenes are much shorter and with less context, but unforgiveness is not good for you. (I love Ephesians 4:32 in reference to forgiveness) This is advice that you may find helpful.
Wow, I’m so honored you used my Banana Splitz footage! It was certainly fun playing through that game as well as the rest of the franchise on my channel! (And also fun buying a whole Vita just to play that game, lol) This was also a fun retrospective to listen to about the series. I love this series with all my heart, and Banana Mania was a breath of fresh air.
Banana splitz for the psvita is actually considered a pretty good game since the level design doesn't have stupid barriers most of the time and there was no jump, bosses or weird gimmicks like that, it's not as good as the first two games but it was still pretty good from what i know
Ehh, sounds like people just giving games points for being "not as bad" verses it actually being good. Sorta like how many people where praising Super Mario Party at launch simply because it wasn't like MP 9,10 again... and that game at least got review scores around a 7s and 8s, Banana Splits was getting 4s through 6s.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 I believe no one has played banana splitz here so I'm just considerating, even as his own thing I think that this game can still be enjoyable even if i know that maybe the level design is not as engaging as the first two games. It IS as good as the first two (at least the first one for sure). It has good level design with a smooth difficulty curve and has amazing worlds and soundtrack (imo). The party games are pretty much as good as those from the first one, and the small missing things like playpoints are compensated with a stage editor that actually works if you know how to use it and leaderboards.

Liam triforce explains the control differences perfectly Og is one to one with the stick movement. Making for some great speedrunning techniques Mania has some smoothing. Making it easier to move on thin platforms, but some speedrunning techniques are harder to pull off. They might be possible with some practice
The way analog stick deadzones are handled is completely different. The original uses an axial deadzone (meaning the X and Y axes both have deadzones independent of each other), while Banana Mania uses a radial deadzone (meaning there's one circular area in the middle of the stick where inputs are ignored). Because of that, it's easy to go perfectly straight forward in the original, but in Banana Mania, you actually need precision to go perfectly straight.
It is not perfect, they messed up the Party Mode games and removed 4-player mode from the main game. When they fix those issues (not optimistic) it will be close to perfect.
10:06 Banana Splitz is actually great. The level design is definitely up there with the first 3 games in my opinion. The art style is pretty neat too cause they're in a toy setting this time. (Yeah, the level editor does suck though.)
The only major complaint that I have with Banana Mania is that there's no multiplayer for the Main Game mode. I wish to recapture the good feels of playing through the main stages with my siblings, but instead we're stuck playing a below-decent reinterpretation of Monkey Target. I'll always love this franchise, I just hope SEGA will continue to listen to their fans. :1
"If the world is not sometimes simply really confusing to navigate, it's mostly obnoxious trying to get where you need to go." Sounds like youre talking about the real world, and not just Super Monkey Ball Adventure. Sage words, man.
Weirdly, analogue issues aside, Banana Splitz is actually considered one of the better post-gamecube games thanks to the levels being more precision-based than those of SnR and 3D, as well as bringing the old difficulty system instead of the worlds. Master difficulty is almost on par with the Master difficulty of 1 and 2, from what I've seen. It's not... QUITE as good, as certain aspects like the party games took a hit, but it's the closest we ever truly got to a proper Super Monkey Ball 3.
About the "DLC": We are talking about a company, which signs up a whopping 100$ for an EMOTE in another of their games, which they unfortunately killed and shot it twice with a shotgun after.

It is so nice to finally hear positivity on Super Monkey Ball. I feel many who grew up playing 1 and 2 are incredibly nostalgia blind when they will absolutely tear any game that’s not 1, 2 of Deluxe to shreds and they aren’t even that bad. It’s perfectly fine if nostalgia adds to your enjoyment of a game but it’s awful how people are so annoying about games like Banana Blitz and Step & Roll. These games aren’t even that bad. I’m totally fine with the jump button and bosses, I can understand why someone wouldn’t be, but this game isn’t as awful as said to be. And I actually think Banana Blitz HD is really good. I just hate all the negativity in this franchise.
I just got this game and its my first Super Monkey Ball. I love it and choosing Sonic makes it feel like one big special stage. I'm really happy Beat made it into the game. Jet Set Radio is my favorite

Honestly the only main thing I don’t like about Banana Mania is the fact that they didn’t include online multiplayer for players where local play isn’t an option. You’d think this game would have online support seeing as it has leaderboards
I am really glad I picked this game up, it has a couple flaws like the odd physics that feel like they pull you off ledges when you get close and the fact that Monkey Target is kind of broken, but it's still an incredible game.
My first (and so far only) Monkey Ball game was an iOS entry, and it was surprisingly good. There was a set of levels with a sakura background and Japanese music, and it was like the best thing ever.

Purchased the game yesterday. Grew up with the series all the way back to GameCube Era. Definitely a good welcome back. The monkey mechanics are a little trickier on some levels that I know I used to ace back in the day. However nothing is perfect so having said that very good game
Banana Mania is such a brilliant remastered collection. And BTW AntDude, Monkey Ball Adventure was developed by Traveller's Tales Oxford Studios right after Crash Twinsanity.
Great video! Always fun to look at the evolution of a series like this. I noticed that you really quickly glossed over Banana Splitz on Vita, likening it to 3D. I’d definitely give that one another look. It has some pretty interesting level design, at least compared to several of its predecessors, and no annoying gimmicks in its main game. It’s doesn’t match the quality of 1 or 2, but I’d say it’s probably the next best in the series. Worth a look.
I will super defend one thing about adventure.... It has one great (but admittedly long) mini game. Monkey tower I think it was called. You all fire cannons at each other trying to knock a tower you've made low enough to make them give up. After a set amount of time goes by you can add special blocks or just make your tower bigger. Did we ever get tower back?
I so glad I got recommended this video! When I was little I wasn't allowed to play games but my grandma had a game cube some cousin left over and she would play this with me while getting wine drunk and trash talking. Seems like just the nostalgia bomb I need right now.
I definitely can’t wait to get Banana Mania, however finding out that the game doesn’t feature multiplayer in the main game made this no longer a must buy for me.
The party mode games are very bad too. They altered the physics in each of them, Monkey Target and Monkey Bowling got the worst of it. Single player is solid but it's only 1/3rd of a game.
The second I saw this video in my subscriptions, I had to watch what your thoughts were on Monkey Ball's latest release; and it did not disappoint. I was happy to see you cover Banana Mania, but you instead went through the entire Monkey Ball series, all in over twenty minutes. As someone who has played nearly all monkey ball titles - starting with SMB2 - it was awesome to see you go through all these games. What an amazing retrospective, man.
See, you mentioning Monster Rancher makes me wonder if you'll cover Monster Rancher 1 + 2 DX when it comes out. ...I may be obsessed with the series. Slightly.
As hype as it is to see Monkey Ball saved, can we talk about the fact we finally have Kiryu and Sonic in the same official game? Shoot, I don't even think they exist in the the same fan games...
I am a simple man. I see a monster rancher reference in the thumbnail, I start asking for a monster rancher video on every video from now on until it happens. You brought this upon yourself Antdude
monkey target is actually a whole lot easier if you don’t tilt the controller as much and just do it a little bit. me and my friend were playing and couldn’t hit a single target until we figured that out and then had almost no problem after, the controls are just a bit sensitive
Technically a boss battle would work in a super monkey ball game. However, if we have to compare this with Bowser, it would have to be something more like the final Bowser fight in Mario 3D world/3D land and not like new super Mario on the DS or the original Mario Bros. The difference is that if monkey ball is all about momentum, it should use it to it's advantage instead of completely removing it and losing it's pacing. A cool boss idea would be escaping a volcano and getting to the goal before the lava catches up while avoiding obstacles in the mean time. The lava will provide the quick momentum strategy and the fire balls will serve as precision challenge, just like a normal super monkey ball level, but more challenging, like a boss should do. Actually, I think it would have to be more like the chase levels from crash bandicoot now starting to think about it.
day infinite of me being unhappy that none of the original games are on platforms I can play. This is the best I am going to get. It bothers me that the only thing keeping me from playing the pure classics in their pure state is the physics being smoother
Honestly I like him more than Scott the Woz because sometimes Scott gets too focused on the jokes and stories and forgets to make a good review alongside those parts
I actually had a Super Monkey Ball Ticket Blitz at my local Peter Piper Pizza and it was pretty fun. There was an ending where you had to hit all the boosters and land perfectly in a circle and it was so much fun. WHY DID THEY GET RID OF IT?!
The fact that more less known sega IPs are getting more games now like Alex Kidd getting an HD remake, and the recent Super Monkey Ball game, I can only hope that NiGHTS and other sega IPs get more and newer games in the future
I used to play the 3DS game. I mostly played the fighting mode, that was basically a Super Smash. Bros knockoff. I’m somewhat disappointed you didn’t mention that or the Mario Kart mode.
Wow, I played Adventure as a kid. ...like, a literal child. I was SO confused as to what the heck I was supposed to do, and I basically couldn’t do any of the stages either since I was so young, lol. I’m not sure if I’m happy or disappointed to find out that it really *was* that bad and confusing.
"I have all this physical media to prove it!" Interesting way to prove it considering this is two weeks after showing off your stack of Cooking Mama games.
Between Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstars, Sonic Colors Ultimate, and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl this Fall feels like a "back to basics" for many franchises.
Similar thing happening with Nintendo. For decades everyone just chanted "replicate the gamecube era" so surprise when developers actually do that the game sells well.
I got so happy when they included Suezo for DLC, 'cause I love me some Monster Rancher/Farm~! It's also coming out pretty soon on the eshop, so maybe it's also a way to promo the classic two game bundle?
When I first booted up the game’s story mode I got a really bad first impression for the games performance on Switch. World 1’s FPS was very inconsistent for me, but once I got to World 2 everything was buttery smooth.
Super Monkey Ball Jr was my introduction to the series! I know the controls are a little jank and I'm probably a bit nostalgia blind, but it's the puzzle game I've 100%'d the most and I regret none of it :)
Also it really freaking sucks that it doesn’t offer multiplayer for challenge mode like the other ones did. That’s one of the best things about Monkey Ball! I’m legit questioning if I want it now. I was so psyched to play it with friends and family in solo mode. :(
Ok, let me give you some advice on Monkey Target, of you pull the stick all the way back you'll lose speed and air FAST. There's a sweet spot you need to find by pulling the stick back about a third/half for ideal results
I loved the original Super Monkey Ball series on the GameCube. I did hire the first game for a few days, but I knew of the second game only just a year away and I had to wait until early 2003 before I could play this game's sequel. Got Super Monkey Ball 2 on the same day as Skies of Arcadia Legends, so I got one of the best multiplayer games on the GameCube on the same day I got one of the best JRPGs on the GameCube both published by SEGA
This is good news! I can't believe it has been like 20 years since the original GameCube release! I remember Super Monkey Ball being a pretty noteworthy title back when the Cube launched. I only really played the first game, but it was fun. It was the kind of game that was easy to pick up and play, but also had a lot of depth! I'm glad to hear Banana Mania is like a definitive collection of the classic games. It really is a shame that they screwed up Monkey Target, though! That was my absolute favorite mini-game!
I feel bad for Banana Splitz. It actually was one of the most decent ones (even part of the community thinks that), with actual challenge, and it wasn't done justice here.
The best thing about Kiryu being in Mania is that the creator of the Yakuza franchise started off creating Monkey Ball, so we have come full circle.
He created both franchises actually.
And now he's gone..........
but will never be forgoten o7

Whoa! Didn’t expect Monogram to be here!
Its halloween AND Antdude uploaded? What a great day!!
Super Monkey Ball 3D's menu theme is actually a remix of That's Enough from Jet Set Radio because a few songs are composed by Hideki Naganuma.
Started with Banana Blitz on Wii happy to see the remaster of that did well enough to warrant Banana Mania. Looking forward to getting it later.
I so glad I got recommended this video! When I was little I wasn't allowed to play games but my grandma had a game cube some cousin left over and she would play this with me while getting wine drunk and trash talking. Seems like just the nostalgia bomb I need right now.
monster rancher is (supposedly) getting a remake, thats why its in there
getting it in your face before release
I definitely can’t wait to get Banana Mania, however finding out that the game doesn’t feature multiplayer in the main game made this no longer a must buy for me.
The party mode games are very bad too. They altered the physics in each of them, Monkey Target and Monkey Bowling got the worst of it. Single player is solid but it's only 1/3rd of a game.
Yeah, I'm also very sad about the lack of main game multiplayer, that was easily my favorite part of MB2
@@webbowser8834 It got removed because it wouldn't work right without a lives system. Which they also removed.
@@Samevi Then make a multiplayer mode with a lives system? Doesn't seem like rocket science to me.
@@webbowser8834 I wish I could and I wish they would...
I’d love to see your thoughts on the Space Channel 5 series! I def think Ulala deserves another round in the spotlight 👏💖
Slightly.
If there is an Ai Ai monster in DX, maybe he will.
I saw both the HD Blitz and Mania titles on Steam and didn't know which one to get. I now want both! :) Thank you for that.
As hype as it is to see Monkey Ball saved, can we talk about the fact we finally have Kiryu and Sonic in the same official game?
Shoot, I don't even think they exist in the the same fan games...
this is just a yakuza substory
kiryu helps a monky get his bananas back by using a ball and physics
Sometimes I accidentally refer to this game as Super Monkey Ball Banana slamma
I am a simple man. I see a monster rancher reference in the thumbnail, I start asking for a monster rancher video on every video from now on until it happens. You brought this upon yourself Antdude
Swazo was added probably because of monster rancher 1 and 2 dx coming out this winter
monkey target is actually a whole lot easier if you don’t tilt the controller as much and just do it a little bit. me and my friend were playing and couldn’t hit a single target until we figured that out and then had almost no problem after, the controls are just a bit sensitive
Anthony knows how to deliver when it comes to good reviews mixed with fantastic humor.
Súper monkey Adventure was my first monkey ball Game and I love it
The fact that more less known sega IPs are getting more games now like Alex Kidd getting an HD remake, and the recent Super Monkey Ball game, I can only hope that NiGHTS and other sega IPs get more and newer games in the future
I used to play the 3DS game. I mostly played the fighting mode, that was basically a Super Smash. Bros knockoff. I’m somewhat disappointed you didn’t mention that or the Mario Kart mode.
As good as banana mania is, there is still one MAJOR thing missing, online multiplayer.
Even though I never played Monkey Ball before, I still think it's one of the best Sega franchises they ever created with Yakuza next-door.
I love watching your videos man. Makes me all nostalgic for the GameCube days or my childhood with crash and Spyro
SMB Adventure is my childhood HOW DARE YOU. I'll keep waiting for someone to make the retrospective this wonderfully awful game deserves...
BUT ANTDUDE!!!
...
What about the Super Monkey Ball minigame in Sega Super Stars for the PS2's Eyetoy?
The silent night part gets me coming back to this video constantly oh my god
"I have all this physical media to prove it!"
Interesting way to prove it considering this is two weeks after showing off your stack of Cooking Mama games.
I made my friends play this for game night and now harambe balls is an inside joke for me
Between Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstars, Sonic Colors Ultimate, and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl this Fall feels like a "back to basics" for many franchises.
Similar thing happening with Nintendo. For decades everyone just chanted "replicate the gamecube era" so surprise when developers actually do that the game sells well.
Pro tip: start select L R resets Touch and Roll to the start screen, so with that logic, you can indeed skip the credits
4:30 thank you very much!
Thumbnail is cute as always!
I completely forgot touch and roll existed but that was one of my favorite DS games thanks for reminding me
animal crossing wild world
@@marble-q6j never played it

AIAI's sprite in Monkey Ball JR just screams MONKE
I always described it to people as 3d marble madness for an elevator pitch. Stages are hit and miss but the good titles are suoer fun.
Finally getting quick notifications for your videos 🤘
good timing!! i just beat banana mania a few hours ago and had a blast
Reminds me of Kula World on PS1 back in the day.
Monkey Ball was my childhood. I’m so glad it’s back.
For the physics purists, there is a mod on pc that makes it play closer to the GCN originals
This is like the exact same video I just made a few weeks ago... except better. Good job Ant Dude!! 😭 More Retrospectives please!
I earned the platinum trophy for both PS4 and PS5 versions. I absolutely loved this game to bits.
Super Monkey Ball Jr was my introduction to the series! I know the controls are a little jank and I'm probably a bit nostalgia blind, but it's the puzzle game I've 100%'d the most and I regret none of it :)
You should review the Tak trilogy! Tak and the Power of Juju, Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge! Masterpiece of a trilogy!
What, no context that this series shares a creator with goddamn Yakuza?
Also it really freaking sucks that it doesn’t offer multiplayer for challenge mode like the other ones did. That’s one of the best things about Monkey Ball! I’m legit questioning if I want it now. I was so psyched to play it with friends and family in solo mode. :(
Ok, let me give you some advice on Monkey Target, of you pull the stick all the way back you'll lose speed and air FAST. There's a sweet spot you need to find by pulling the stick back about a third/half for ideal results
Huh? So... Nights into Mania maybe?
The Wii Remote's "tilting technology"
Throwing that subtle shade on the Wii...
I feel bad for Banana Splitz. It actually was one of the most decent ones (even part of the community thinks that), with actual challenge, and it wasn't done justice here.
