Do you want a boat like mine?
She is 15ft long, an adapted Ilur designed by François Vivier, and built of clinker plywood by les Charpentiers Reunis of Cancale in 1994. The design is based closely on the traditional inshore fishing boats of Brittany, including her single boom-less lugsail rig and lack of a mainsheet horse, (controversial among my viewers). Although rare in Britain, Ilurs are quite common in France.

Your disaster film is still so calm, poetic and heartwarming. No wind, foul tides, ornery fisherman, dried out at an angle, towed, rowing for miles, rain, and of all things, no bolt! Love the new music too. I ran out of wind last weekend in a channel and learned that the centerboard is loose enough in the box that it thrashes around in the wakes. Unnerving, but again, what wonderful problems to have right.

I am a veteran dinghy sailor here in the U.S. and I can verify that your observation about fishermen is a global truth. I was once sailing close to a dock to make a landing at an established boat launch and had a fisherman cast his line directly in front of my dinghy. He was quite upset when my centerboard snagged his line and came to lecture me about it. Even when I pointed out the large, "No Fishing" sign affixed to the dock he still reasoned that I was at fault! I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos, please keep them coming!

Maybe global, but not universal I hope. Spent many hours fishing the canals of Northern England, always always pulled my gear out for passing boats, a nod and a wave. Peace :)

Cotati1956 yes I snagged a guys line once and his pole broke. He was blocking the channel and I never saw his line till it was snagged. I gave him a used pole later that week to avoid the argument. People with shallow minds have big fists. Pissed me off but I took the high road.

I have really enjoyed your stories account of voyages in Southern Brittany and Loire Atlantique. Some 15 years ago on a slightly larger boat than yours ( 23’-00”) I visited the area.
Was going to stay for a year, but stayed for ten!
Better weather than UK, brill.food if you like mussels and oysters, cheap (excellent at 3 euros a bottle) wine, really interesting coastline with lots of off shore islands to explore and all very different. And of course the Morbihan which must be unique. But perhaps most of all is the attitude the locals have to small boat sailors. So welcoming and friendly.
If you have the time do go. You won’t be disappointed.

Sir, your videos are such a refreshing change from the "high-energy" subscriber hunting dross one normally encounters on UA-cam. An erstwhile sailor myself I find, even to this day, the lullaby of the slap of rigging against mast, and gentle Rock of the boat while at anchor guarantees a swift and "amiable" descent into slumber.
More power to you and your dinghy cruising endeavours.

As both a fisherman and a kayaker I've been on both sides of that situation. Thank you for your patience. I can normally call ahead of me when kayaking and ask anglers where they would like me to pass. Showing that I don't want to disrupt the fishing is usually enough to placate them, but then of course I don't have a mast...

That was a bit of an adventure. Coastal sailing in a cruising dinghy [mine was generally the Solent]. Becalmed, dried out, rowing, for goodness sake. Avoiding the fishers [tell me about it], and to cap it all - towed. At least you didn't ground out in mid-channel. I'm assuming the centreboard/plate was retained by its haul rope. 😉
    Unmissable video, as always.
