I'v e had my Stanley squirrel cage blower Identical to the one you show, for about ten to fifteen years and this was the first time I attempted to clean it. Your instructions were spot on. It's easy once you watch the video. Well done Sir, well done.
This fan kept me cool in the summer of 2007 when halo 3 was released and continues to keep me cool into 2021. Thanks for the video I’ll be cleaning it for the first time ever.
thank you so much I've been baffled with this should have looked it up earlier it's a pricey blower and been bugging me because I want to clean it I was under the impression you had to go in through the side I was trying to figure out how to un clip the side opening but obviously that doesn't work it just looks like it un clips nevertheless this video was a huge help you have my thanks kind sir
Thank you for the video, even though it didn't resolve the issue I had, which was that the squirrel cage didn't want to come off. For those of you having a difficult time removing the squirrel cage because it seems stuck to the motor spindle, I'll describe how I got mine off. I tried evenly prying my cage at two points, changing the position under the cage that I was prying on every few attempts. After doing this for a good while, I noticed the cage was moving minutely ('wiggling') when I tried to pry it. I continued the process, changing positions around the circle of the cage until it loosened up, and came off. Once it came off I could see that the spindle was slightly corroded, providing enough friction to make removing the cage difficult. To prevent this issue during future cleanings, I lubricated the spindle with silicone grease, which is plastic friendly. Make sure to only use something that is both water-resistant and compatible with plastic. Lastly, I used blue threadlocker on the spindle when I replaced the nut. The threads of my spindle had some white/gray substance on it (not dirt/dust), which I assumed was to serve this purpose. Another piece of advice is to pay attention to the side from which the person in this video removes the screws during disassembly. I didn't look at this video before I took mine apart, and ended up pulling a foot off of the wrong side to access the screw/s I was sure were there. Make sure to remove the feet from the side opposite the outlets. As for the circles; some commenters say they have circles on the upside. My cage had small circles around the inner circumference of the cage on the downside, and four larger circles in a square around the hole for the spindle on the upside. As for the few of you who say their fan no longer functions in all three speeds after dis/reassembling for cleaning; as there is not need to do anything to the switch when cleaning the fan, my only guess is perhaps you somehow managed to get some dirt in the switch mechanism, which, in my opinion, could only happen if you removed the switch knob, which isn't necessary to clean the fan. Perhaps if you blew the fan off with something stronger than canned air during the cleaning process dirt could get stuck in the switch. Good luck! And again, thanks to D.E.K. Outdoors for the video.
Great video. I couldn't figure out how to take my fan apart and never would have known to take the rubber feet off. Thanks so much for such a thorough explanation!!!
I've had one of these since 2007 and have run it almost 24 / 7.....365. Pretty good unit, the motor takes a ton of abuse and the plugs on the side are great for connecting my phone charger and laptop. I'm about to replace mine, because my blade developed a hairline fracture around the top ring. I tried to super glue, then melt it back together, but to no avail. This issue made the blade slap around the inside of the case and rendered the fan unusable. I called lasko (who makes the stanley and air king blower fans) and they told me that no internal parts were available, just the whole unit. I even tried to cross reference the lasko and air king fans for a blade that might work, but the same story. I'll just keep the old motor and other parts and buy the same model. For how many other fans I've had, which the motors burn out in 2 - 3 years, this fan lasting 7 years is definitely worth $60.
Having a hard time pulling off the turbine, even with the turbine nut removed. I had the turbine shaft saturated in WD ,overnight. My dilemma is accessing the power cord for replacement. The motor area appears to be caked on w/dust and i wanna get that area clean. For safety concerns. I had this blower fan for over 20 years. It's been loyal to me over the years and wanna return the favor. Thanks for the video
Great video and worked perfectly. Mine was just as dirty... yucky. A quick tip about getting the squirrel cage back on. There is a flat side to the shaft and on the wheel. Make sure you line that up and it will go right back on. Mine was not lined up properly and it made it very difficult to get off.
Thank you for posting this!! I have a Lasko air blower and this helped me disassemble and clean it! I thought for sure I was gonna have to throw it out and buy a new one. Thank you!!
Thanks. I needd to know the screw locations I have a lasko. Blower fan,and it's pretty much the same Sub first time hopefully I can see your easy to do at home rerpair cleaning...
Thank you! I watched until 2:19 and my arrogant self said, I got this from here. I cleaned it, put it back together and found the fan was the same speed in all 3 positions. Figured my 15 motor was done. Then I said, what the hell let's watch the rest. 🙂 I had the fan blade assembly upside down. All is well now, thanks to you!
So if you're like me and dont own a tool kit, a butter knife, q-tips, a vacuum, a couple really sharp objects. I used a little pik the dentists use a lot of patience, I successfully got all the extra dust and built up dirt and my long hair. I was able to screw off just one of the vent areas the large circle one and that part was fast, they other parts not so much.
I bought one of these fans in 2018 after Hurricane Michael came through North Florida. It's a great fan. But I need to clean it and didn't know how so I googled instructions and found your video. Thank you, I'm going to get this fan cleaned.
Great instructions! I wish I had seen this the first time I took my Stanley apart a few years ago! When I reassembled it last time, I put the blower cage in upside down. (Circles are 'up') Now I believe it has 'fused' itself to the shaft and won't slide off as designed. I don't use water anymore. Just a brush, compressed air and then spray the motor assembly down with WD-40 and run it outside until the odor is gone.
Did the same and had the same experience. Had to take it apart, set it on the floor, step on both sides and pull up w/ everything I had to get it off. Heavy gloves are recommended.
I have this fan but mine is lasko branded. Kind of strange because when I search for a lasko blower cleaning video they disassemble differently. Glad I found this video.
Great video, D.E.K. Outdoors! I love my Stanley 655702. After so many years in service it's time for a thorough cleaning. Your video helps a lot. I wonder whether there's need to grease the bearing.
thank you, I don't know about the bearing ? I've been using mine for more than 3 years and hardly ever turn it off. works as good as the day I bought it
I think maybe your fan has been apart several times before you decided to make this video. I have not been able to get my fan off the spindle. I gave used penetrant, prying tools, hammer and I don't want to break the fan so was it as easy as you made it look the first time you did it?
My Lasko was a little harder to disassemble, but don't worry it can be done relatively easily(all screws are the exact same). Despite it being a completely outside fan(probably 5 years now, underneath a tin roof but gets wet all the time)it is now back together and working properly! I credit hosing off all the hardened dust on the pieces that could be hosed off and screwing everything back together tightly. The fan turbine can not be detached from the motor so I used a nylon bristled toilet brush to clean off all the dust on the blades, then blew them off with a leaf blower. I had looked into replacing on Amazon and there all $75 to $100 now, I am glad it was able to be taken apart and put back together! Great job there Lasko!
Thank you so very much for a wonderful Video. I am 71 and have been looking at that for most of summer wondering how. Today was a flashlight moment---UA-cam and you.
Mine looks exactly the same and is the yellow Stanley blower fan. But it has a completely different bottom casing. The majority of it is held together with Phillips head screws and then randomly thrown in stupid manufacturer bolts. No bit will fit them! Like they just want me to buy a new blower! If that is the case, that is a really shotty way to make the company more money. They've just lost this customer. Thanks for the video! I sure wish i could make it happen with mine.
Awesome youtube is my best friend if need help i alway turn to this when its my lawnmower/car or even cleaning tip but I found one of these like new condition no flaw other than its dirty inside at a second hand store for $7.50usa now I'm excited to clean this tomorrow ♡♡♡ Thanks Alot
Been using mine for about 6 or more years every night in my bedroom and it just started sounding strange. Thanks for helping me take mine apart! Gave it a good cleaning and a lube. Back to perfect again.

Don't need alot ,just a few drops then as it runs I turn the motor sideways to not get to much oil in the motor. I've had mine for over 15 yrs. Love it ,use it every night to circulate air. Long as you keep it clean it should last a long time.
Thank you very much!! I could not figure out how to clean my fan..worst than yours dirt wise.Your video was clear, simple to follow, very good! I bought four of these fan because they work so good, the dirty one I ran very often the last two years during the summer and fall months, but was afraid I'd have to get rid of it,but thanks to you again I'll be able to use it again plus clean the other three as needed. Very helpful video and you made it easy!
Omfg thank you so much I have that fan and it was soo dusty to the point where i couldn't use the 2&3 setting because it will blow out so much dust and I thought u couldn't clean it

could you please have a look at the wiring! I picked one up for a buck because the switch fell apart and four wires are out. two black, red and a brown which should go to the switch.
hi I took mine apart to clean it .. and the wires on the controls switch fell apart and it crumbled what wires do I hook tougher to have the 2 speed ... only
you made it looks so easy! you lost me though on the part where you took off the fan, i had 2 of these blowers, they come with lock nuts, i was able to remove one and stripped the bolt of the other, the one that i was able to remove, i could not even wrestle the circular fan off. so i ended up hosing one part while keeping the motor part dry and like you did used a blower.
That worked pretty good but I couldn't get the main fan blades off after taking off the nut. I guess it's just old and corroded. So I ended up just giving it a really good brushing off with a paint brush and then went over it with the vacuum brush attachment. Got it all back together and its working great. Thanks for the info!
Seriously, I was considering tossing it, but I loved the shape of this model, and thought, “what the heck”. Typed “how to take apart the Stanley 655702”, and, Whallah, you saved the day! Thank you.
I have a Lasko blower fan that I'm trying to disassemble for cleaning.. I have it mostly apart but the 7/16 nut that holds the fan to the motor just keeps turning and turning and not loosening. I can't figure out how to remove the fan from the motor.
Thank you so much for this I've been trying to clean the dust out of mine and because I'm highly allergic it's becoming an issue. But thanks to you now I can clean it the right way.. now where did I put that screw driver...
i really liked the fan cleaning vid..i have one of those fans and was wondering how to clean it.it is a great fan,i love the out lets on it too for using outdoors thanks
I followed instructions and everything came apart beautifully, EXCEPT after taking nut off I could not get the cage off the bolt. WD-40, Ice pick, exacto knife, etc all trying to clean around bolt but it just won’t give. My fan is gag reflex dirty so I’d love to get this clean proper... any ideas how to get cage off bolt? Thank you
My neighbor just gave me one of these Stanley blowers and said it vibrates and annoys him.So I'll use your video to clean it. Thanks D.E.K. Outdoors for uploading.
While this is somewhat the same context for the Lasko fan.. Honestly its not! Lasko takes a tri-wing bit to take apart and also the body comes off the legs which makes it even more difficult to put back together.. I will be making my own video for this with people who have a Lasko
Anakin Howard Hi, i am having difficulty with taking the fan drum off. I've tried loosening the nut by hand and a cordless drill. It turns but does not seem to come loose.
I I took mine apart and cleaned it and put it back together like you said but now it doesn't have 3 speeds. I tried to take it apart again but couldn't get the fan part off now. Any suggestions?
Ok so there's a nut in middle tangy I can't get off, it's turning but it's just doing that turning. And the second fan I got but off but I cannot get the fan off I'm scared to break it. What can I do?
Mine seemed to just turn as well, but it did eventually come off. Just try keeping at it. As for removing the fan cage, see my previous post detailing how I got mine off.
i am thanking of buying one from my local ace store and am wandering is it very quite on the lowest settings? and can it work as a mini air conditioner?
No, it's not quiet any any means. It's no substitute for an air conditioner but mine is running now on the lowest setting and it stirs the air up enough to make it a lot cooler.

It looks very easy, but being careful with the blower wheel is important because it's plastic and it can break.

dmac75357 lasko takes tri wing not phillips. They are not the same
Do you need all the same tools? Socket and everything??? I have everything but that and its driving me nuts! Thanks!
Thank you the vid; it was a blessing to my family.
I’m liking your hose blower that nozzle we’re you get from
Thanks for this!
you're welcome
Thank you TONS for getting right to the point and showing us.
What size is the fan u screw off if u know by any chance?
yeeeaaahh.. Would you just look at it ?
I followed your video but can't get the nut off. it just turns. uggghhhhh
Thanks for the video!
I have exact fan but my circles go up and not down. But other than that, great instructional video.
Mine had four circles on the upside, and a bunch of small circles around the inner circumference on the downside.
Thanks bro your the man

Did you know that the motors on these things have ball bearing motors instead of sleeve bearings?
Thank you for this.

the lasko does not come apart that easy
SO FOR EVERYBODY THAT HAS THE LASKO VERSION OF THIS LIKE I DO FOLLOWING THIS STEPS.
1.PULL FRONT BLOWER GATE OFF FIRST PRY IT OFF WITH A BUTTER KNIFE OR WHATEVER YOU HAVE.
2. DRILL OR SCREWDRIVER FOR THE RIGHT SIDE GATED VENT / SAME FOR THE LEGS
3. PULL THE LEG OFF NOW YOU NEED THE 7/16 WITH EXTENSION RATCHET PLACE INSIDE AND BEGIN TO UNDO THE BOLT HOLD DOWN THE FILTER WHILE DOING SO
4. THERE IS A WASHER THAT IS HOLDING DOWN THE FILTER SO ADD SOME PRESSURE JUST A LITTLE AND PULL FILTER COMES OUT WASH EVERY THING THAT IS PLASTIC ONLY WITH A SHOWER HEAD HOSE ETC.
5. IF YOU DONT HAVE A AIR COMPRESSOR USE A VACUUM CLEANER OR WIPE DOWN WITH A DAMP TOWEL AND OLD TOOTH BRUSH TO REMOVE DEBRIS
6. REVERSE PREVIOUS STEPS AND YOU GOT A NEW FAN AGAIN TOOK ME THREE YEARS TO FIGURE THOSE FEW MINUTES GOOD LUCK ANY QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW
Thank you so much. I thought it was impossible. But I did it myself after watching the video. Yay.
❤
could you please have a look at the wiring! I picked one up for a buck because the switch fell apart and four wires are out. two black, red and a brown which should go to the switch.
hi I took mine apart to clean it .. and the wires on the controls switch fell apart and it crumbled what wires do I hook tougher to have the 2 speed ... only
Very much appreciated! I would have destroyed mine trying to take it apart without this.
You da MAN!
Does anyone know if this process voids the warranty?
It's only got a one-year warranty. However, in the US, according to Federal law, you can open your product without voiding the warranty.
oh wow, thanks! I reversed the fan and it's working like a charm now. It was on there pretty snug and I was afraid I'd break it. Thanks again!
Cómo arreglo mi blower fan Stanley.se mojó.no echa aire..pero lo los toma corrientes si funcionan
useless
the nut on the actual blower is stripped now and it won't tighten. I tried the 7/16 but that stripped it.
you made it looks so easy! you lost me though on the part where you took off the fan, i had 2 of these blowers, they come with lock nuts, i was able to remove one and stripped the bolt of the other, the one that i was able to remove, i could not even wrestle the circular fan off. so i ended up hosing one part while keeping the motor part dry and like you did used a blower.
Thanks just bought this used and couldn't wait to clean it..
Thanks so much for your video. It was a pleasure to read and observe a precise procedure like yours. Keep up the good work..

Thank you.
You're welcome!
I have a Lasko blower fan that I'm trying to disassemble for cleaning.. I have it mostly apart but the 7/16 nut that holds the fan to the motor just keeps turning and turning and not loosening. I can't figure out how to remove the fan from the motor.
davecooper360 did you get the nut off? I am having your same problem
thanks for this, this style of fan works well, wish someone made smaller version for desktop use....
Thank you so much for this I've been trying to clean the dust out of mine and because I'm highly allergic it's becoming an issue. But thanks to you now I can clean it the right way.. now where did I put that screw driver...

Thank you so much for this video. I would never have figured it out. Thanks again.
i really liked the fan cleaning vid..i have one of those fans and was wondering how to clean it.it is a great fan,i love the out lets on it too for using outdoors thanks

Thank you! Ours is full of dryer lint!
Anyone know what type of rheostat this fan uses?
I got mine apart, cleaned it, and forgot which way the drum/blade went back on. Thanks for the video.

Mahalo! I love my Stanley fan
oh wow, thanks! I reversed the fan and it's working like a charm now. It was on there pretty snug and I was afraid I'd break it. Thanks again!
Your welcome !!! Glad I could help !!!
Thank you so much!
Appreciate the video 👍🏿👍🏿
All fixed up. I wasn't aware of the circles going down. You're the man. This thing totally blows. 😎 Thanks.
Your welcome !!!
Mine had four circles on the upside, and a bunch of small circles around the inner circumference on the downside.
thanks for the video!
This is the BEST. FTW~
Excellent, instructive, helpful. Thanks!

I cleaned my blower but not it's stuck on one speed please help.
Dakota Hurd had the same problem turn the blower upside down. Should fix everything.
Thank you so much. Really appreciate it. Thx!
You are welcome
I I took mine apart and cleaned it and put it back together like you said but now it doesn't have 3 speeds. I tried to take it apart again but couldn't get the fan part off now. Any suggestions?
You need to take it back apart and reverse the fan blade ! You have it on backwards !!! Grip fanblade tight while unsrewing blade !
@@DEK981967 circles go up not down... He was mistaken in the video
Ok so there's a nut in middle tangy I can't get off, it's turning but it's just doing that turning. And the second fan I got but off but I cannot get the fan off I'm scared to break it. What can I do?
Daisy Griffin did you get the nut off?
Mine seemed to just turn as well, but it did eventually come off. Just try keeping at it.
As for removing the fan cage, see my previous post detailing how I got mine off.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
thanks man, we REALLY needed to learn how to take ours apart
Your welcome !
Definitely bought ours some time. Thanks.

Thanks!
i am thanking of buying one from my local ace store and am wandering is it very quite on the lowest settings? and can it work as a mini air conditioner?
quiet yes even on high setting
No, it's not quiet any any means. It's no substitute for an air conditioner but mine is running now on the lowest setting and it stirs the air up enough to make it a lot cooler.
Great video, I hate fans with dust on them.
Thanks Shawn , I agree !
what size nut for the ratchet?
7/16" or 11mm.
thanks dude.

When I go to take the nut of the fan the whole bolt turns....
Mine did as well. Just keep at it and it should come off.
