    Just a tip, I have thick and wavy hair and what I find is if you leave the iron longer time than running it three times it’s faster and easier on you hair..not to mention you can curl the ends to make them not so frizzy. You will see how much quicker your hair is to straighten without the frizz especially on the back. Plus use a hair oil after for shine and less frizz..hope this helps

    No offense but WOW! And kudos to you for showing us your BEFORE hair. It Looks Soooo Nice when it's done! Thanks for a great video. I just bought a straightener for my color treated 49 yr old hair. And THX bc you have just saved me tons of research. I'm on a hair quest

      Lol! Thank you! 😁 It's not always easy to allow yourself to be completely vulnerable and allow the world to see you looking crazy, but if it helps other women I'm all for it! All I know is, I'm SO GLAD someone invented the Straightner!! 😉

    Yes I do that too coconut oil with a hair wrap overnight, though I usually put the coconut oil in when my hair is washed, as it absorbed better in the hair follicle. x

      +tk2 Ktt I usually do too...put it in my hair when it's wet...for the same reason. Sometimes I'll even wrap it in a hot towel from the dryer. However, occasionally, I will smother it right onto my dry hair. ;) If you don't mind me asking, what is your name?

    My hair is similar to yours. Curly in parts, kinky in parts, almost totally silver and color treated. I used to blow dry and flat iron my hair until I saw a video about the L’ange LeVite. It’s a piece of cake to use, I can straighten my hair in seven minutes and mine is longer than yours, it doesn’t damage your hair. Another suggestion, just switch it up a bit, is to use the curly girl method. You will be amazed at the ringlets that you can achieve. Love mine and I never thought I would say that since I always hated my frizzy hair.

      Thank you Lori! It would be more of a messy bun for shorter, layered hair types. Lol! I've watched so many messy bun tutorials, but they've all had such long hair that their techniques, although beautiful, just don't work for me. So I will definitely be adding a quick messy bun tutorial into one of my videos! Thank you for your comment! Hope you have a fabulous Friday!

    Love you videos! I just turned 40 and I've been watching your night time and morning skin routines and trying to apply those to my routines.
    Also, my hair has different textures in different sections and very wavy and I've found that the INSTYLER rotating curling iron gives a very smooth and shiny look. I use it as a flat iron but it takes some practice but so worth it.
    I stopped using the flat b/c it doesn't give the shine like the INSTYLER. Thought I would share. God Bless

    • @TheWizOfKeyz
      @TheWizOfKeyz 5 років тому +1

      N Bleck Sorry! I dont mean to butt in! But the in styler is AMAZING...! Isnt it?! I had the original silver & orange one, i used to use it every day. And i freaking LOVED it. But it finally broke and i got a regular flat iron again cause theyre cheaper. And i forgot how much i loved the instyler. But youre totally right! It dosent creat near as much shine, or that nice little finished bend at the ends like the instyler does, and i swear to god that for some reason my hair was sooo much healthier back when i was using instyler as opposed to a regular flat iron. Not sure why that is...but im gonna have to buy a replacement finally and go back to using instyler. Screw this flat iron bs! my hairs already badly damaged enough as it is...lol

    South Texas frizzy girls, unite! (I’ve just discovered your channel today. Can you tell by how far back I’m going?) I’ve recently decided to stop or curtail blow drying my hair. I call it rock ‘n roll hair. Haha! We’ll see how the Houston humidity treats me.

      @KODoch48 5 років тому +1

      aTimeAsThis - Explore the "curly girl method"! Everything from slighty wavy ("beachy") to super curly applies to this method! Basically it teaches you how to tame your frizz and make it pretty, smooth/defined waves or curls. I predict in 10 more years you both will understand exactly how damaged (and "heat tamed" resulting in dry/damaged straight parts) your hair actually is, when the bottom seems thinner (damaged part breaking off point) and your dye just doesn't seem to adhere (to cover graying)long and/or is dull looking. Not trying to be critical, just "been there/done that"! The CG method is a god-send and takes no more time than all the work put into achieving straight/smooth hair styles. Look up "Curly Suzie" channel for EASY CG routines (don't fall for the super complicated, product-heavy pushing channels!). There's a learning curve, so be patient .... Your hair will heal over time as you cut off the damaged areas! Jennifer has wavier hair than she thinks ... because all the years of coloring and straightening with heat have "retrained" her curl pattern! Lastly .... GELS are your BFF ... Learn what a "Cast" is with using them (in all weather points) ... They are HUGE in achieving that defined/smooth/shiney look you are wanting with your natural hair! Good luck ... Hope you research this advice! 😊
      (P.S. You are BOTH super beautiful women!!)

    I highlight my hair and I find using huge rollers after I wash and condition my hair and letting it dry, straightens and gives body, without heat. My hairdresser is always amazed what good condition my hair is in, consider how much I color it!

      @JeniferJenkinsBeauty  8 років тому

    • @Scampergirl
      @Scampergirl 8 років тому

      +Jenifer Jenkins My hair is a few inches longer than yours. I also have some layers. If I let it dry naturally, it's wavy. But I love my rollers. I change the size of the rollers, depending on the look I want. Flat irons have their place once in a while, especially to add that sheen, but they are super damaging used regularly. Thanks for responding. You have a great week too!

    I honestly think your natural hair is pretty. Look around on their channels, girls are spending a ton of time to get that wavy look. I think you could use a little bit of product to tame the fluffier pieces, add a bit of wave to the front and you'd be good to go. I love your "after" look too though.

      +Jennifer Miller Thank you for that suggestion. I didn't know if people would get bored without a little background music. Maybe I have it a little too loud. Will keep that in mind next time. Thank you for those tips on my hair! I think if I grow it out a bit, the weight might help tame the shorter layers. I think I might experiment with that in the future. :) Have a lovely evening!

    If this is "crazy hair" to you, then I can only imagine what you think of my kinky/curly 4a natural hair. You'd probably think it subhuman... Anyhow, your hair is beautiful in its natural state. I see now that black women aren't the only ones who fall victim to the "good hair" "bad hair" categorization. That saddens me. Thin straight hair is beautiful. Full straight hair is beautiful. Wavy hair is beautiful. Curly hair is beautiful. Kinky hair is beautiful. "Good hair" is hair that is well nourished.

      P Williams, you inspired me to reply back to your comment from 3 years ago. :) I am sure your kinky curly 4a hair is absolutely gorgeous and stunning! I myself am just learning to accept my wavy/curly hair as I hadn't even known I had this type of hair (due to being raised and taught to blow dry it straight all the time). So, I hear you. Now, I am just learning to let it be and become as healthy as possible finally. Thank you for your comment and shedding some light on things. :)

      You’re absolutely right!! It’s interesting how incredibly important hair is to us humans. As a kid my hair was “too thick” to wear down, as far as my family was concerned. Then as a teenager I wanted super big hair and got permanents. Now I color my hair to cover grey. I try to appreciate my hair now....it’s funny.

    Hi Jennifer! I will be 55 in June and my hair gets "frizzier" the older I get. That probably isn't good news for you! I'd like to say it's a nice curly situation but I think frizz is a better description. I love your hair straighten but I feel like I need some poof or I look old. It's the 80's I suppose! Julie, I knew it!! My hair has gotten so much more coarse and frizzy the older I've gotten. My hair is also wavy, light weight, and frizzy. Every year for the past 5 or 6 years I have gotten my hair permanently straightened at the beginning of June. That way I do not have to use any hot tools on my hair. And it usually lasts until the end of winter. I also love the Joico conditioners, I found them at my beautician's a couple of years ago. My hair has been amazing since I started using them. Funny about the music, the reason I get my hair straightened is because I go to the Creation Music Festival every year at the end of June, here in Pennsylvania. It is a camping experience, so it difficult to use styling tools. I love listening to music live, it is so fun.

    Great hair tutorial for those of us with the coarse wavy hair. Mine has gotten waiver as I've gotten older too. Your hair looked beautiful when you finished. I really like the John Frieda heated styling brush. It gives me the closest thing to a salon blowout. Really looking forward to your hair color video and would
    Ike to see you cut it too. Have a great rest of the weekend.

      Thank you Brenda for your kinds words and for that suggestion! I'm going to have to google that Brush. :) I will be making hair coloring video in the next couple of weeks for sure! I'm trying to let my hair grow out a little so I'm not sure about a hair-cutting video anytime soon. But sooner or later I'm sure that one will make it into my library of videos. ;) Hope you have a wonderful week!

    I've never seen anyone with my type of hair before. My hair does the same thing. Super frizzy, straight in some areas (but not much), and wavy. My sideburns are super frizzy too lol. I'm also hypothyroid so maybe that's why our hair textures are about the same?

    You want to get a good shampoo as well a conditioner it will make a difference. Try a deep conditioner once a week . If your dyeing your hair you should use a shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair the have ones specifically for blonde hair. If you have an Ulta store near you the sell samples of a lot of shampoos and conditioners . You might want to check out Monique Parents UA-cam channel she has gone natural and has beautiful silver hair. Also check out MrKongsMom UA-cam channel she has a video on maintaining silver hair but she was a blonde and used a shampoo specifically for blonde hair she mentions in the video.
    I also have wavy curly hair but my is fine and thin. I have what they used to call salt and pepper but the gray and white also first showed up in front and on the sides. I noticed that when looking at pictures of my Nana and mother that we all started graying in the same exact way. Take a look at pictures of your family you might see the same thing .
    The sooner you stop the heat on your hair and the dying the better of your hair will be.

      That's interesting that you cut and color your own hair too. It's not an easy thing to do...and it takes a ton of trial and error! Thank God for toners....and that hair grows! Lol! I will definitely be doing a hair coloring video in the next few weeks, but I'm trying to grow my hair out, so I'm not sure I'll be doing a hair cutting video anytime soon. And I'm a little afraid to do that. I can just imagine the comments should someone try what I do and it doesn't work out. Different textures often times require different styles of cutting. :) Thank you for watching! Hope you have a lovely evening!

    I thought your hair was beautiful natural. You're way too hard on yourself. You almost had natural beachy waves, for real! You could take that and with a little product and technique, have gorgeous beachy waves. I loved the idea of adding the Pantene leave in conditioner to a spray bottle. I'm gonna have to give that a try. TFS!

    My hair is so nuts, it looks naturally like a clown wig. And there's tons of it, so it takes so much time and deep conditioning. But I get compliments bc people think Ive got these perfect curls all the time..... If they only knew how much work it is! (I get tired just thinking of doing my hair). My husband asks "is it a hair day?" so he knows how long I'll take to get ready.

    Thanks for sharing this. I've really been wanting to try doing my own color and highlights. I actually bought the stuff at Sally's once and chickened out and returned it all. Lol! I have a very similar amount of grey as you but naturally red hair that has faded to a light warm brown. Tricky, but I think I can touch up what my stylist has done and gradually take over with help from your video. The demi color over the highlights to tone down the brassy was what I couldn't figure out so thank you! I'd love to see how you cut it😉

    • @JeniferJenkinsBeauty
      @JeniferJenkinsBeauty  8 років тому

      Hi Kim! Yes, that was the part that was tricky for me to figure out as well. Until I learned about the Color Wheel and how to cancel out unwanted colors. If you are using toners or demi-permanents, you basically just choose a *base color* OPPOSITE (on the color wheel) of the color you're trying to cancel out. But your toner always has to be a tad bit darker than the shade you're putting it on top of, otherwise nothing will happen. It can be a little tricky and a little scary. Good Luck! :)

    Jenifer.... I swear we have the same hair!! Just watched your videos of coloring and highlighting ... and what you are showing now, is EXACTLY what my hair looks like when it dries on its own! My hair is worse because it is longer and layered! But my hair is really straight, and not wavy, but looks like waves like that drying naturallyt. But mine is hard to curl, and just blow drying it will straighten it. I use coconut oil mixed with a little jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, and argon oil ... mixed together, and combed in at least 2 times a week. I use it in the morning, tie it up in a pony tail, and wash it out at night. I use the Loreal Ever Pure shampoos and conditioners for color treated hair.... and then use "It's a 10" leave in conditioner when wet, then dry it. After about 3 months, my hair is so silky and soft, and shiny all the time, and it doesn't tangle as easily either.My hair had been dry and rough feeling prior to discovering this! --- I can "grease up" my hair easier than most, because we live out on a ranch and I can go do all my outside stuff and never have to worry about somebody other than my husband seeing me! LOL I am sure I am quite a site at times!! Love your videos!

    I've been trying lately not to use a hair dryer on my hair either and I also have to straighten it with a flat iron. My question is, do you wash your hair in the morning or at night? If you wash it in the morning how many hours do you have to wait for it to fully dry so you can straighten it? I find that it takes almost all day for my hair to fully dry and it wastes my whole day before I can straighten it and go out. Also, did you ever make the messy bun tutorial video? I looked for it but didn't see it.

    • @TheWizOfKeyz
      @TheWizOfKeyz 5 років тому

      Katie Erin try washing your hair at nite! Cause then itll be at least 50% dry by morning, (if you have super gnarly thick hair like me lol) or maybe even fully dry, if your hair is closer to "normal" texture. Doing this has helped me cut wayyy way back on the number of hrs i used to spend waiting around for my hair to finally be dry enough for styling! And if you DO absolutely insist on washing it in the morning for some reason, then my other favorite trick is to sit directly below a large fan that i use to blow as much water out of my hair as possible as im going about my normal get ready routine. So... as im sitting there doing my makeup, eating my breakfast, answering emails, surfing the web, whatever, etc... i keep the fan pointed at my head & set on medium. I set it up a little higher than head height, so that it always hits my hair at a downward angle. (Creates less frizz) Like i said, i have CRAZY thick, curly/frizzy hair. And i can basically "rough dry" my hair with this method in ahh... about 45 minutes, id say. (Even faster if its summer.) & By that time im already done doing my makeup & the rest of my a.m. routine, and my hair's dry enough for heat styling. Try it! itll make your life soo much easier. 👌 peace ✌😉

But, I've had so many people over the years say how lucky I am to have thick hair. I'm sure you get the same. While other people are trying to get their hair to grow and be thicker we were blessed to be born with it already. When I don''t have time to style, I put it up in a bun and done! Angela :)

    Best way to tell if your heat protectant is working: spray or rub lotion on the back of your hand. Use hair dryer and shoot air at temp used normally on your hand. You should not feel heat on that area of hand. I've had lots of fails with drugstore products..but cream kerastase and pureolgy protectant are awesome. You can really tell the difference. Try it out 😉

    Hi Jenifer! Girl - first of all (and most importantly!) - stop being so negative about yourself!! Stop apologizing for things!! You are so naturally gorgeous that any one of us would love to look like you!! And yes - we ARE interested in everything you show us and how you do everything!! You always make great videos because you just somehow know what we all love to see!! So keep up the great work girl!! I’m 60 years old and you remind me so much of what I was like at your age and I think I still look pretty dern good at my age!! I have the exact same hair as yours (and it’s still “base colored and highlighted and it’s still long - a little past my shoulders!) I too wash and condition my hair twice a week, let it dry naturally, alternate between moisturizing and keratin-based conditioners (I read up on things a lot also!), have fine hair but a ton of it so I’m lucky at my age, and I keep it very healthy! I used to color my own hair and cut it myself also when I was your age. It took me a long time to find a hairdresser who would color and cut my hair exactly the way I wanted it to be. But I found her and she’s wonderful! I guess I got tired of doing it myself and I also wanted to feel pampered a little!! I do my own nails (mainly because it’s just easier and also because I do not want to take a chance on contracting a nail fungus 😝). I take very good care of my oily/combo skin on my face AND body. I am 5 ft 6 inches tall and weigh 110 pounds and concentrate on keeping muscle tone. I’ve never been on a diet of any kind - I just naturally like healthy foods. My mom and dad are thin and it’s just the body type I was born with. I firmly believe that you are born with a certain body type and it’s very hard to change it but some people are so determined to do it that they can make it happen! Anyway - Jenifer, get that confidence up and know that you are a gorgeous woman (inside and out!) and feel it, girl!!!! Love you!

      +toybiz1 I used to do a ponytail a lot too, but if I don't have to, I don't like to wash my hair everyday. It's too much hassle and I don't think it's good for my already, extremely dry and coarse hair. So I prefer the bun over the ponytail because a slept on ponytail for me, never looks good the next day. But a messy bun does! Lol! You and I are so similar Jenifer, it's really weird! My hair does that funky wave thing too and I am unable to walk out the door with air dried hair! My husband loves it like that but I think I look like a witch haha! I have been going gray or silver for quite some time and I got so sick of the maintenance on it that I have let my hair grow naturally! Seriously, not even a week after I had dyed it my grays would be peeking though! It's actuality been quite liberating to not worry about dying my hair! Sometimes I will see a gorgeous hair color and want to dye my hair again but then I think of the maintenance and remember what a pain it was. I don't know why I am yammering on and on but I just want to say I know how you feel with the wavy and coarse hair! You just seem like such a cool person! Seriously! I love your channel! Thanks for making the videos that you do because I relate so much to them! Have a fantastic day!

I swear I have to touch up my t-section (part and hairline) at least every 2 weeks, just to feel like I look presentable because it's such a contrast. But I'm glad I can do it myself, otherwise I'd be spending a fortune and wasting a ton of time at hair salons! Thank you for watching and commenting! You're awesome!

    anyway i know you have problems with under eyes and now with fluffy hair.
    i have found an amazing product id love you to do for other beautifully aged woman to try.
    its cold pressed Jojoba oil and costs approx 3.00 pound if you put this on very very very lightly under eyes before concealer it rids of creasing or put over finished makeup for a smooth eye with NO creasing. also add a few drops of this in your shampoo for beautiful soft hair. AMAZING please do a video...the difference is instant.

I've never considered using it in my hair, but I'm definitely going to experiment with that! Thank you so much for your comment and for watching! Hope you have a fantastic day!
