the scariest moment for me is getting trapped in the room and having to escape with that ANNOYING color symmetry lock puzzle. the sounds is so scary. Shadow at the waters edge
Honorable mentions. Seeing the cloaked figured outside your room in Blackmoor. Scared the crap out of me to see it standing RIGHT THERE. Not alone in Dry Creek. The subtle details combined with the threatening music.... I always have to mute. How could you not mention KEY. That computer jumpscare darn near had my throwing my laptop across the room.
@WizardKittenYT There's also the chase through the tunnels. The blind confused panic I had when that music picked up the first time.... I ran right into the "monster". 😆😆
When I was a kid, Curse of Blackmoor Manor was peak terror. Even just walking around the manor scared me because I never knew what would happen. Linda’s room especially was so creepy! Also I’m so happy you mentioned Ethel! She’s so scary to me. When I was a kid, I screamed out loud during Nancy’s nightmare sequence and made my mom sit in the room with me and read a book or do her ironing while I played that game. I was too scared to be alone while playing it 😅
Okay, just a thought I had about SAW. People say that the culprit wasn’t intending to murder Nancy with the ghost attack in the old baths where she nearly drowns, but if murder wasn’t the intent, why would the culprit have given Nancy a chance to so closely examine the fake ghost? A lot of people say that culprit is one of the most sympathetic but I disagree, I think they are one of if not the most psychotic and honestly that game has gotten even scarier for me playing it as an adult with some more perspective on relationships and the mental process of that culprit. The scariest game for more reasons than I could comprehend as a child!
I think Rentaro is an example of how not to write a twist villain. By the end of the game he gets a completely new personality that replaces his old one. So we’re essentially given a completely new character in the last half of the game. I think HER didn’t want to go the truly supernatural route and none of the other characters made sense as the culprit. So they just picked Rentaro. I think that’s why so many people can see past his diabolical plot.
I think that one of the scariest moments, if not the scariest, is the finale of Secret of the Scarlet Hand. Being in an enclosed space, in complete darkness, with a mummified corpse, as you suffocate, is unusually intense and horrifying for a Nancy Drew game. I was surprised to not see it on here, but based on your entries it seemed like you were specifically talking about cutscenes. Which makes sense. Loved this video! ❤ Maybe a fun idea could be the Top 10 Scariest Second Chances? There are some really intense ones. Lol
I would have included: 1. Being locked in the monolith with the mummy at the end of Scarlet Hand. Traumatized me for weeks as a child. 2. Traversing the hidden passageways in Blackmoor Manor with only the light of your glow stick, culminating with seeing the curse written on the wall. Special mention also goes to peeping on Linda and seeing her werewolf hand. 3. Water's Edge, trying to solve that one color tile puzzle with the ghost hammering and scratching on the walls and windows. Had to turn my sound off so i could concentrate lol.
I think the scariest scene for me is being trapped in the coil in The Deadly Device. This is literally a deliberate attempt on Nancy’s life and we only have so much time before we’re electrocuted and inevitably murdered. Just the fact of knowing that and not knowing how much time we have to complete the final puzzle gets my heart rate going every time!
I love that MID ghets to bookend the video LOL To me, the creepiest Charlotte appearance is it the other house, where she walks toward us, and burns up while doing so. Creeps me out to no end
I got chills up my spine when seeing 'Nancy Drew' on the tombstone in Thornton Hall. It was so unexpected and very creepy. Also I think you mentioned in another video the dropped phone call in the attic after a crash of thunder/lightening in Crystal Skull when Bess reveals she told Dr. Buford Nancy was on the verge of finding the skull. It makes you feel uneasy and that someone is coming to stop you. Ethel's unexpected appearance when we click a screen is also so jarring! I love all these subtle scary moments in the games. Even the empty museum in Scarlet Hand feels spooky and that someone is watching you from a dimly lit corner. 🕵🏼♀️
Love it, great content as usual !! Everything about CUR was scary, the gargoyles, searching which gargoyles had the curse, learning there's another secret passageway, the curse esthetic, reading it and thinking we'll transform, linda's hands, the tooth, the chants, ETHEL!!!, the tunnels, can't see Linda but can feel her depression, Loulou saying someone is behind, Jane being cold, Laetitia screaming haha. But number one is the cloak figure, and ever more since my sleep paralysis and it was that exact cloak figure, aahh! And they came even stronger on SAW, oh my! And all that wrapped up with great soundtracks
@WizardKittenYT maybe yeah, but I'm biased I've played CUR at 12 and GTH during my 20s, so GTH wasn't scary, more sad for me, except for ND's name written on the tomb, that font was menacing 😂
I KID YOU NOT you started wrapping up the ending and I was about to comment "you forgot the jumpscare that is Ethel"--- AND THEN YOU SAID IT!!!! LOLLLLLL I literally clapped in delight like a three year old lol also! while I've definitely gotten the Charlotte in the walls scare I don't know if Ive ever seen the second half of that one!!!!!!! holy CRAP is that terrifying!
I feel like the one jump scare that lingers with me the most is the reel in Thorton Hall and then going out to the ruins to see Charlotte burn up right in front of you. Dear goodness, that one just lingers with me. I think it's kind of the fact that there's no music in it or singing. It's just...her death. Also, her jumping at you at the end of the game when you dig in the wrong spot is pretty freaky. Like c'mon, Charlotte. You don't have to be so jumpy. 😂
For me, the second monster sighting in CUR was the scariest even if it wasn't as much of a jumpscare. Hearing that the monster was *inside* the building in that scary alarm voice and then seeing it walking by at the top of the stairs terrified me when I first played it. Plus the fact that everyone vanishes when there is a sighting and you're suddenly alone just adds to the scariness. Also, I need to replay GTH because I don't remember the peeping scare scene at all! I do know the first time we see Charlotte does not happen until right after we read about her and see her on the cover of that book (a case of the carbon monoxide poisoning creating illusions based on how Nancy is now picturing Charlotte). Also it wasn't until just now that I realized that when we run into Rentaro coming out of the bath with his toolbox, that's probably when he set up the mirror trick!
11:56 hey has anyone ever posed the theory of Nancy secretly being a vampire? she never seems to age, and also has no reflection. in this essay I will-
For me personally, the scariest moment is the shadow figures at the ghost town in Shadow Ranch. Knowing I'm not alone but whoever is here not wanting to outright scare Nancy/be seen still creeps me out. An honorable mention is the easter egg phone call in Message in a Haunted Mansion in which a distorted voice wails that they "can't get out." The other ghost voices are direct/antagonistic enough for me to label it an attempt to scare, but the despair in that voice makes the subtle hauntings feel more real, that Nancy is solving a mystery in a house that ghosts are just stuck in.
I honestly couldn’t believe that the scene at castle malloy where nancy gets pushed in the silo by fiona didn’t make the list. I played that for the first time when I was 32 and I jumped out of my freaking skin! it terrifies me every time!
Nancy's Nightmare is my favourite because I never know when (or if) it's going to happen! I've played all the Nancy games so many times that I know exactly when all the scares are going to happen, except that one!
I'm shocked no one mentioned the dummy game that breaks in the Final Scene! That scares me SO BAD every time even as an adult. I also hated the speaking dummy in Crystal Skull so maybe I just have an issue with dolls/dummies.
I agree with your #1 pick, but for an entirely different reason. The first time I played SAW, I saw the lack of reflection in the mirror, saw the figure appear behind her, and screamed “PEPPER’S GHOST!!!” at the top of my lungs, waking my roommate from a nap at the other end of the house. It was also the moment when I solved the game.
The mirror scene in SAW gave me so many nightmares as a kid, and I was just watching a walkthrough of it. SAW is easily the scariest game to me , I still can’t even watch it without feeling on edge later on
One of my personal scariest moments is in The Haunted Carousel. It’s the three different parts when the culprit attacks Nancy towards the end of the game. Let’s just say the kind of face they make looks like they’re about to do more than just strangle Nancy 😖 Then again, they’re all Second Chances. So, I’m not sure if those count.

My first F bomb was when I was a kid and played White Wolf of Icicle Creek for the first time. Getting pelted at with an ice ball after getting out of the fishing shack was bonkers lol
