I'm going away in two weeks and wanted to bring my painting stuff with me, but didn't want the bulk. So, I found 8 bottle caps and created my own, using an old fancy cigarette case. I also made another one using an Altoids can and cut up a kids watercolor set, works great. Very excited now that I can bring my supplies with me on travel. Going to try the gum packaging next. Plan to create a number of them, just see which one works best. Love this concept.
This is probably one of the most genius things I've come across on youtube! Thanks so much. I'm just starting with water colors and wish I had this idea on my last trip
In my Altoids tin watercolor set I made I used the punch out tray of a pack of gum in mine so I have 8 colors and 2 brushes and a cleaning sponge packed into mine
Amazing idea! I have a ton of Altoids tins lying around with no purpose, and this seems like a great craft to try. My nieces are excited to do this for our next craft day. Thank you!
U r awesome! Just what I needed Those already made pocket sets r close to $80!!! Also may I suggest adding a retractable small paintbrush to the box itself? Again types!!!!
I have that same kit! Also gifted to me. I had the watercolors in an open pallet and they dried up and cracked terribly! They also painted like tempera kids paint. I love this idea though! I am a tin-hoarder so this is perfect!
I adore that Whitman box but, of course, I cannot find one. ;) I see no benefit from keeping my watercolors moist... except for non-honey based veridian, which won't reconstitute nicely. Keeping them moist just leads to the pints getting moldy. Spray them with water several minutes before painting and you will be fine - at least with professional grade paints. If they are moist, you pretty much need to hand carry them wherever you go, since they will run when damp.
This is so fabulous! I've not been interested in doing a little one until now because I can make my own special one! I love your ring, what kind is it? I'd like to check to see if there's a stone I'd like but the design is awesome! Thanks.🌹
For another commenter: If you don't drink bottled water, just ask your friends or office mates to save the caps for you. Or, make an exception a few times knowing you will be putting it to good use. Thanks for sharing the video :)
I just carry a pencil my sharpener my pen I use and my pocket paint kit I made and lastly my sketchbook also I wish Target existed in my area but they are all gone around here they went extinct even the one's in the next state over I use to go to

This is exactly what I was looking for and you explained everything so clearly! Thank you! I can't wait to get started and see if I can make my own 😀
Very cool idea using the bottle caps! Blessings!

I spray painted the inside of my can with white enamel so I could see the colors when mixing.
You can also cut a clean white meat tray to size and glue or double-stick tape it in. That would give a smooth surface as well as white.
Diane Ridpath Can you tell me What is a white Meat Tray ??
Thank you ;-)
Kanzee you may not be in America from your question, but it's the piece of thin white styrofoam that meat is packaged on in stores.
Ohh, i understand now...thankyou ;-)
great idea and it stores a lot of colors. thanks

I LOVE this mini tin set up! Thank you so much!
Such a cool and inexpensive idea. Love it Ivett!
Great video. You could use the bottom of the tin (once the paints are removed) temporarily for water, too, since it's metal!
Awesome travel bag!
Cute and clever, but you were off camera for the time you made the paint kit. So it's hard to really see what's happening.
U r awesome! Just what I needed

I believe if you mix gum arabic with the watercolour it will not crack when dried.
+alyssa marie Thanks! I'll have to look into that. I've heard vegetable glycerin is a good remedy, too.
Yay! I like it! Tfs
Great idea! Don't buy bottled water but the kids have some metal bottle caps somewhere that might work.
TFS

Have you ever heard of adding honey when you put tube paints into pans, to keep the watercolor from completely drying out? I may try that.

How do the watercolors not leak out of their cap and mix with other colors or get all over the inside of the container?
Gotta let them sit until they dry.
@ 19:40
