- A lot of people ask me what art supplies I carry with me when I travel to create my illustrated art journals. Here is a video describing each item that I carry. I hope it inspires you!
Best video for trip packing. Love your journals. Great job.
Marjorie Johnson thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it and I hope you find it useful on your next adventure!
This is such a great video! You managed to pack only the things you need into a small bag. Thanks for the great ideas. Hope to see more videos from you soon.
Thanks so much Vanessa! Have a wonderful trip and I hope you have time to create lots of beautiful art!
Watercolor pencils are nice to travel with. Love this video. I had never thought of making a kit to make it easier to travel with. In the past I always through them in a backpack and I hated having to search for what i wanted so now I'm going to make a kit like yours. Thank u. Have a great weekend.
Thank you so much for this video - I really enjoyed it! I appreciate the extra time you took to list the materials on the screen - that's a big help. You have a nice voice and calm, friendly manner. I subscribed to your channel and hope to see more videos soon!
I find that the 28 day pill organizer by "Pharmadose" for $8.24 has 28 little pill cups almost identical in size with the winsor newton half pans...soooo.. leave your W/N half pans at home, and by spraying the back side of it with white silicon spray, or placing the white pill sheet that comes with the organizer, under the plastic tray, you can take as many as you need colors, up to 28, and have at it...It does not have a cover for the pill cups, but if you place the organizer on the bottom of your carry on bag, it should arrive in one piece with no spillage.
If you take just 14 colors, you can use 7 in the first and third rows for basic colors, and then the 2nd and 4th rows for mixing your exotics if needed. It measures 4" x 6" x 3/4" and has clear see through plastic all round, slide off access covers for each day's pills, should you need to refill or let dry your paints. The whole 28 day pill tray organizer, comes out in one piece, from the end with the Pharmadose name. I find it quite well made for my inventive and colorful nature.
Great idea - thanks for the tip!
This is my go to video for packing art supplies for a trip. Even after several years.
Thank you! I am so glad you found it helpful! Happy traveling!
Do you happen to have any tips on storing those scraps of paper so they won't get wrinkled?
I love the tiny brush....Watercolors are my thing too! I'm excited to be heading to Portland soon for an art trip...I'm stoked to plan my art supplies and do some vlogging. Thanks for this inspiration for the trip!
Hello loved the video and thought of something that you might like to try I recommend laminating your colour swatch sheets and that will protect them from the wet paint in your pellet iv just started doing it and it's working well :)
Your video was exactly what I needed to help me pack forv10 days in Iceland next month! Thank you for taking the time and explaining each item.
Vanessa Powell Thanks so much Vanessa! Have a wonderful trip and I hope you have time to create lots of beautiful art!

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I'd also love a flip through of your journal-it looks amazing!
I never thought of using white out for highlighting! What a great tip, thanks!
+Rachel Jones You are so welcome, and thank you for taking the time to comment!
That White-Out pen is brilliant. I'm definitely adding that to my kit!
This video helps me so much for my trip next year! thankyou so much! so many good ideas!
You are so awesome you inspired me with the Windsor Newton feild kit
Very helpful. I love the Caran D ache. My first set of colored pencils that was given to me by my grandfather was that brand. The little travel kit you showed looked great also.
I really enjoyed seeing your travel kit. Thanks! I travel a bit lighter (smaller palette for example, size of business card holder). You could use Washi tape for masking as well, also decorative for adding stuff to your journal. I will be doing a series on watercolor palettes soon (hopefully), including travel, and sharing my kit. I will also be posting about a hybrid water/sable brush if you are interested.
Outstanding. Thank you.
sakura has an awesome watercolour travel set, u should get those! :D
Very nice video. You have a very pleasant voice that is easy to listen to, great presentation, good organization, and wonderful information. Make me want to get out an old make up bag and fill 'er up! And I don't even like to travel. LOL
I love the Iona journals, they're made here in Austin in a little studio (which I've visited) on the east side. I have one my daughter gave me years ago and I've never had the nerve to use it, it's so pretty.
iona journals
Great video. You may not realise, but I have a waterbrush and to refill on the go the top fits right into the opening of the water container of the Winsor & Newton Travel Palette that you have. I just squeeze the air out of the waterbrush, pop it into the opening, invert, and then let the suction fill the brush - when the brush is totally empty it takes a couple of times, but it's mess free and you can fill it quite a few times from that small reservoir. Hope that helps someone. :)
Bigs What a great tip! I had no idea, but I will certainly be trying it in the future! Thanks so much for taking a moment to comment!
All Artist Paints are in the clear, with the TSA. You must abide by the rules, concerning the size, on whether carry on or checked, that's all. It's clearly stated in the rules.
Thanks for the comment - flammable artist paints are not permitted. Although most artist paints are nonflammable, if they are not labeled "nonflammable," they can be removed from your luggage.
Thank you for this useful video and tips .i will be travelling abroad so this came handy for me.
Thanks for leaving a comment! I'm really glad this was useful for you!
a great helpful video. You condensed the basics into a reasonable size kit!
thanks so much. Great support for our documented life journals as well.
Hope you share more videos soon.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent presentation, and oh so useful. Thank you.
Rick Harder Thanks - so glad you found it helpful! I appreciate your commenting!
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I'm starting now whit watercolor paintings and I just love the idea that I could travel and painting may experiences :) (Sorry for my poor english, I'm learning)
Hey, I think your tips are very handy and I wanted to ask you if you maybe can do like a flip through of the journal you showed in the beginning??
hey can you make a video on how you did that journaling inside the journal
Can you do a flip through of your book?
Have you changed what is in your kit? Will you be posting an updated kit video soon?
Hello Lorraine, thank you so much for your sharing tips! I was wondering about the W&N set box, how large is it? It looks pretty tiny!
Love your video and thanks for giving us a peek into your kit! Very helpful. Are your Davinci travel brushes synthetic or sable and which do you prefer to use?
+Paige Pittman Hi Paige and thanks for commenting. I'm glad you liked the tips. The DaVinci's come in a synthetic and a sable. For traveling, I use the synthetic - they are very high quality and plus, I just don't feel I'm good enough to invest in the sables!
Great info!
Thank you Paula!
from where you buy these item these are so good
I saw your demo via Sketchbook Revival. Thanks for this great video and your clear descriptions. Question about the Ranger heat tool. I couldn't find anything warm only and specific to watercolors. In the question section for the one on Amazon it indicates the Ranger tool is very hot, like a regular embossing heat tool. Did I miss something? What do you suggest?
Great video! You definitely need to upload more videos. (Of course only if you want to and have the time to)
Thank you so much for this video! Can you tell me where to buy the scissors? I've googled it, but don't find one with such a small point. Thank you so much!
Thank you Terry! I am so happy you found it useful! The scissors are from Westcott - here is a link to help you find them: tinyurl.com/m797dpj
Fun fact: the white correcting pen (and other types of white correcting stuff) that you showed us, is called Angel Blood in my language :) is it also called that in other languages?
Great video btw :)
we pretty much carry the same travel kits
13:39 "so when we're using pencil we of course need an eraser"
...
"we of course... knead... an eraser" :D *ba dum tss*
