Great to hear it. Most whips these days have hollow tips but some older ones may have solid tips. Just make sure the tip is hollow before cutting back :)
The biggest problem with elacticating a whip is that if you are fishing to hand and you hook a decent fish-usually a carp, it is difficult to land as you have too much line out and with the stretched elastic added you cant hold the whip high enough to net the fish,, I got over this by attaching a lencth of green garden wire to the bung and running it all the way to the bottom of the whip, so it could be used as a puller, allowing you to shorten the length of the elastic and able to net the fish--I have used this method very successfully for many years.
Old school ways to get round this include standing on your box or walking backwards. I had a 6.5lb tench on my first elasticated whip with a silvers rig and size 20 hook which was a struggle to get in but just about managed. Don’t get me wrong I’d never fish this way in a match, it’s way too slow you need to land the fish and move on.
That’s a good question. Personally I wouldn’t risk without a bush as you’ll be running the elastic over the sharp edges of the carbon pole which will wear through it very quickly and you risk snapping it when hooked up to a fish. You’ll lose your full rig including float, hook, the lot and a fish would end up dragging it around which is very undesirable.
Hi I'm new to fishing and fancied the idea of a whip rod. However I've noticed after watching several videos that only small fish seem to be caught. Can I ask does adding the elastic increase the chances of catching larger fish. Thank you Paul
This one is a sensas brand whip but now discontinued. This one was very inexpensive at around £10 so you could find any brand whip at around that price for a similar result.
Smaller beads are order of the day. I’ve since swapped the large bead on the video for a matrix puller bead in size medium. It passes through the tele sections really easily. Have a look at the Jamie Hughes video on winning ways for a guide to making your own dacrons. Basically you need the smallest bead you can get away with depending on the opening of the bush you’re fitting.
It’s called a base bung. You can get them in various sizes. If you want to be dead accurate then measure the internal diameter of your tip section and buy the nearest size down to make it a simple job to remove when you need to change your elastic. This one is stonfo brand and I got it from eBay.
Hey, my 8m fully telescopic whip just broke from about 1m away from the tip, so I decided to set up an system like this. How long rig are you using on that 4m pole? I imagine it's quite difficult to estimate how much the elastic stretches once you hook a fish and especially an bigger one. If you also cut the line rig too short the reach is kind of disappointing. I would really like to see you fish on a video with an setup like this. Cheers!
Thanks for commenting. Usually I set my whip rigs up to ‘fish to hand’. This means the overall length of the rig is just slightly shorter than the length of the whip. This allows you to swing in smaller fish (ones which don’t pull the elastic) and net bigger ones with ease. I have a video on my channel where my sons fish with a whip to catch small tench using this exact setup.
Unfortunately there’s no standard kit. I bought the various bits from online tackle suppliers. The end bung is a stonfo one I got from eBay. Measure the internal diameter of your tip section and find one to fit. I’m just about to elasticate another whip for my other son but the tip section is very short so I’m going to elasticate the top 2 sections instead.
Excellent . I was given a whip the other day and it has a ring on end and as I’ve never used one before I was wondering how to elasticate it . Wasn’t sure if I could use it without elastic but now I know how to elasticate it . Would I have been able to use it without elastic ? Just by attaching line to ring at end .
The whip with a ring eye attachment is great for small fish. Just loop to loop the rig onto the eye. If there are any bigger fish you may want to elasticate.
Almost, we tend to use a rig which is a fixed length of line with a float (and required shot to cock the float) attached. At the hook end we use a hookbait rather than artificial ‘flies’.
Beautiful tutorial. I was looking for 2 hours after a tutorial like this ☝️. Nice one
Thanks so much. Hope you get on ok with your own elastication :)
I've got a bunch of whips in storage that I want to make elastic poles and your video is EXACTLY what I needed 🙏

What's the name of model and brand telescopic pole in the video?

How can you get the Dacron connector bead once fitted up through tele sections please ?

Does the end bung come with the kit?

@@BobsBitsOutdoors could you maybe video you do that as I might do the same
@@antjohnson4236 by all means. Watch this space :).
Don’t cut the pole on your wife’s kitchen worktop 😂
Haha, best lighting in the house from the under cabinet led’s. The trick is to do the cutting when she’s out.
