These are really beautiful! I recently got fascinated by terracota jewellery and your videos made me fall in love even more :) I would like to know if you ended up painting these diyas and if so , how did they look after painting ? Thank you...
Hi! I don't own a kiln so I take my pieces to a pottery studio close by and get it fired in an electric kiln. Hence I won't be able to make a video on firing, sorry.
I use low fire earthen ware clay. You can look up Clay Station or Clay Joy in Bangalore. Both are pottery studios in Bangalore. I pick my clay from a local pottery studio here in the US.
Thank you so much! You can actually take a ceramic studio near by and get it bisque fired. Ceramics/ pottery is big in the UK. Have any doubts, send me an email on paintedearthbyneha@gmail.com
Awesome Neha..Thank u fa teaching..I want to ask u one question..I have boutique I m thinking to make terracotta tablet fa my out door wall..Will this stay long duration...
Thank you so much! You mean more like a name plate? If that's the case it should work. If it's to be kept outdoors, then once you paint upon it, please varnish it. It should be fine :)
Beautiful work.but how your clay is so soft.when I try something like this,it breaks or cracks are seen..when I make hole in my jewellery too ,it gets cracked. Pls tell me some tip..expecting ur reply.or a vedio regarding.
Thank you so much I never work under a fan. I know it's a basic thing but I have seen a lot of people work under fan while dealing with clay and that's so not to be done. You could also try spray some water on your clay and try kneading it. Hopefully these videos might help: ua-cam.com/video/qK3O6Fyzv7g/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/C5xq9NmS5b0/v-deo.html
I currently live in the US so I buy my clay from a studio here. The clay I use is Laguna EM106. I never buy online as the shipping would be very expensive. Back in India (BLR) I would buy clay and get my work fired from here: clay-joy.business.site/
I am sorry but I haven't used air dry clay so I may not be the right person to advice you on that. I have always used natural clay, which requires firing to make it usable.
Very nice 🤩 hi mam can we use high fired or medium fired white clay for jewelry making since am not getting low fired clay here please help me through this 🙁
You may try, it's just that mid fire is mostly stoneware and high fire is porcelain which are both expensive and their firing temperatures are higher than low fire. Hence the term - mid fire and high fire. I have never worked with high fire. I have worked with mid fire but only for hand building and wheel work. Never used for jewelery. Btw, if you live in India, it's easy to get terracotta. You can approach clay Joy or Clay Station in Bangalore. Both are pottery studios. They have the appropriate clay for terracotta jewellery making. You can google them to get the details.
@@shilpar7585 you can look for a ceramic studios near you. You can look for a brand called Laguna low fire earthen ware clay - red. Without grog. Here they usually sell in 25 lb bags.
paintedEarthbyneha thanks a lot mam ☺️ near by studio I didn’t get I will check some other studios, really u r awesome mam I appreciate your patience and kindness 🥰
Hi, I really really love this diy Bt may i know can I work the same with polymer clay too ? Plzzz reply me Cz I have worked with polymer clay before Bt still I m not sure I will be able to give same look. Thanks in advance wil wait for your answer 😘🙏🏻
You can try it but I haven't used polymer for a functional purpose. If you already have some polymer clay at hand, give it a shot by making a small one. Once its completed you may try to add a little oil and light it for a few hours to see if its usable. I do have a concern - when polymer clay burns/bakes it produces fumes/odour right? I don't think that's very healthy to breathe. But you can also try using the center wicks rather than using the traditional ones. That ways the sides of the diya won't burn. Hope this helps.
@@nehagopinathpillai thanks dear sure will try and update U how it goes , I worked with clay before Bt never tried these kind of shapes so I m not sure too as terrracota is more soft so it’s better to work with these kind of designs .Bt will surely update u soon 😊 thanks for your reply 🙏🏻❤️👍
You can design diyas with very simple tools as well. Parts of a pen, or a toothpick, knife etc. You can watch the full video, I have also shown how to make them free hand. Without the sponge.
You can try slow drying your work. Using pendants warp due to lack of grog in it or quick drying. We don't use grog for terracotta jewellery making so the one way to avoid excessive warping is by slow drying. You could cover your work with a thick sheet of plastic and slow dry. This would take longer but should help with the warping. Don't dry it under the fan or in sunlight.
You can find it on Amazon. Look up wooden blocks. If you are in Bangalore, you can approach MK fancy in Jayanagar 4 th block complex, next to big Mishra pedha.
Here it depends on the size of the kiln. Drying time of around 3-4 days and then fired and cooled inside the electric kiln for about 16 -18 hours. The temperature is around 900-1000 degrees C. It's gradually raised.

Thank you so much!😊🙏
Beautiful!👌 What is the diameter of the slabs ? I have made some myself and would like to know if the diyas would leak after oil is poured into them.
The diameter of the slab is 2.3 inches. Please fire it well. It works great as a diya if it's fired well.
Will do it. Thanks
Does one glaze either the inside or the outside of the diya to prevent the oil from soaking into the clay and marking the surface beneath the diya?
Superb Neha ji... 😊
