You ever work in a hospital? So many of the intoxicated, homeless, etc. know how to "play the game." They say, "I've been thinking about hurting myself," and they're on a psych hold, and they have a warm bed, hot meals, for the next three days. It's like a crappy hotel, where you don't pay for anything. Look, I can understand a person in crisis. But when you're doing it 3, 4, 5 times a month, not to mention hitchhiking to Florida for the winter months, then coming back, that's an issue.
It's never a sign of weakness to say, "I AM NOT OK." Like, if you were drowning, you wouldn't say, "Nah, I got this," if someone offered you a life preserver.

This was one of the most upsetting episodes for me. The sensitivity of Drs. Cox and Dorian gets to me. It’s obvious at the end, but even while treating Miss Tracy they both show concern, even in the 15 second window.

Mental health is something many people in society have a hard time understanding. We can understand when a person is sick with an illness, or they break a few bones. Seems tho we have a hard time understanding when a person is depressed.
@@EresirThe1st I think people are unwilling to help. Depression is looked down upon and a lot of people think the person should “ get over it” I speak as someone who has been depressed before and I know how painful it can feel. It’s not easy, and some people can’t understand that.
@@EresirThe1st See, that's precisely proving the point this person made. Nobody says "change has to come from within" with cancer or broken bones. You can't willpower your brain to create more serotonin.
As someone who suffered from severe depression himself I can tell you that it's mainly just because it's not tangable. Everyone could kinda make it up. That's why people don't want to bother with it and I can fully understand that. Also the severity is very subjective. In general it's a very subjective issue. Therefor it is not really fair to demand understanding for it. From my experience, the people are not the problem. The problem is the really bad treatment for these issues. There is no drug for this issue. They all just delay things and put it aside. The whole concept of targeting mental health is very drug related, which is very dangerous.

It is a *comedy* show. More so, it's a comedy show that doesn't take itself the least bit serious. Exaggeration is a big part of comedy! Their point, however, was that doctors need to spend more time listening to patients. Their even bigger point was that people need to spend more time listening to other people.
yeah, youre right. it is BS. No doctor in real life would go rushing back out of concern for their patient, once they figured out what was wrong. great episode and segments with Miss Tracy. the granny panties comment. haha.
15 seconds might be an exaggeration but I think it's somewhat true. Doctors don't have the time to spend much time with patients when they have many patients to see and other things to do
As a doctor I can confirm that this is very much true. Junior doctors spend more time monitoring them but senior doctors generally spend just a couple of minutes (enough to take decisions regarding treatment and relay them to the patient) with most patients especially seemingly healthy ones like her. They do keep themselves updated about the patient's status through junior doctors. This is especially true in departments with high patient load such as internal medicine and emergency.
One of the best recurring characters. Superficially a little annoying, but a fully formed person who you could feel a lot of sympathy for.
Well said
Yeah she played the putting a brave face on it well
I loved Miss Tracy, plus I’ve always appreciated Nicole Sullivan.
She gave so many subtle hints as to her emotional suffering, masked behind a bubbly veneer. We can relate. Excellent writing and acting
