Learning you need to be CLEARED into bravo airspace is private pilot written exam material. The former pilot apparently got confused about class C and class B. In Charlie, just talking to a controller lets you in. In Bravo, you need explicit clearance to enter the airspace.
Yup, violation of bravo airspace is a one-year suspension automatic, you can't even really fight it second offense is permanent suspension of pilot's license. This is because you could have caused a passenger plane accident and many people to lose their life. The fact that he needed bravo clearance pretty much tells you that it was a small plane. He might have gotten confused because certain clearances only require you to talk to a controller however bravo clearance requires you to talk to the controller and hear the words that you have received clearance to enter bravo airspace.
That is absolutely ridiculous when a controller gives you instructions you follow them. You do not argue with an faa ATC controller when they tell you to do a left hand down win or they tell you to follow a certain pattern you do as you told.

The channel VAS Aviation has the full exchange. It was at Las Vegas I believe. The 1NR is a small plane that was wanting to pass through the airspace that is near the airport. The airspace is known as Bravo airspace and access to it is strictly controlled by ATC. He requested clearance to enter, but was denied entry by the controller. He decided to enter anyway, where he disrupted the operations of flights into the airport. This clip picks up right after the ATC did an emergency divert call to an incoming United Airlines flight. She told the small plane to vacate the airspace immediately, at which point you saw his response. The exchange ends with the pilot being told to copy down a phone number, which is one of the worst things a pilot can hear. Learning you need to be CLEARED into bravo airspace is private pilot written exam material. Establishing radio contact is sufficient for class charlie (with registration number acknowledgement by ATC) but not bravo. We've known this for about 35 years now. He needs a violation or a revocation. This was all changed due to PSA flight 182 on September 25, 1978 at San Diego as well as the Aeromexico midair in Cerritos, CA in 1986.
Entitlement is an amazing thing
You can enter Class C or D towered airspace if you’ve established communication with the tower. In class Bravo airspace that’s not enough. You must hear the words “Aircraft ***** CLEARED INTO CLASS BRAVO.” This is why doing your training in a busy complex airspace is advantageous.
Eh... no you can't. You need a specific clearance to enter C & D too.

The former pilot apparently got confused about class C and class B. In Charlie, just talking to a controller lets you in. In Bravo, you need explicit clearance to enter the airspace.
Former?
The license will most likely be revoked.

It means they will have an investigation and hearing with the FAA over a violation of flight safety. The most severe consequence being the revocation of their Pilot's License.
