Well Mr/Mrs Cullen, I hate to be the nay sayer once again in one of your sales presentations, but I disagree with your assessment that downtown Portland is safe. I quote the homicide rate as a prime example. In 2021 there were 88 homicides in the city. The previous record was 66 in 2019. This year, 2022, there has been 69 as of the date of your posted video, Sept 28, 2022. That is exactly in pace with the record set last year. You are very correct in your video about how certain pockets of Portland are more dangerous that the ones you have just shown us. You are also correct on that most suburbs are a more desirable place to live. You Cullins, for example, live in Lake Oswego. That suburb is a separate city of 40,000 and it is considered the "Beverly Hills" of the Portland area. The beautiful Mrs. Cullen admits she hasn't been to her downtown office in years. I don't really understand why the Cullens are pushing the downtown area to live. I contend that downtown may be a great place to visit but you certainly wouldn't want to live there. The Cullens also mention other close in suburbs that at one time a wonderful place to reside. Unfortunetaly even Laurelhurst, mentioned in the video, has tremendous problems. Just recently at their very beautiful Laurelhurst Park, Police were once again trying to clear homeless camps that have taken over the park. These camps extend out from the sidewalk and through out the whole park. If any person really wants to consider a move to Portland, please arrange at least an advance trip yourself to personally check various areas and determine how you feel about it . The Cullins are very knowledgeable about the total metro are it would seem. I respect them for presenting Portland in the best possible light. I just don't agree with their presentation of the facts regarding crime. Again, this is just one man's opinion.

Hi Don! Thanks for the watch and in depth analysis. I respect your thoughts on this and that's why everyone has their own threshold for what they are comfortable with. All american cities have crime, we just need to be vigilant when we are in higher crime areas. If you don't feel safe in certain areas then trust your gut for sure. I find most parts of downtown to be perfectly safe during the day for walking around as you can see in the video. Lot's of tourists eating outside, shopping, walking around.

These incidents were unfortunate for sure, they involved homeless fighting each other in old town. It's the same area where a lot of the violence in downtown takes place near the homeless camps. If all you showed was the area of old town where the homeless are being left to camp you would think Portland is a terrible place like you make it out to be but that couldn't be further from the truth.

You haven't shown a single picture of crazy homeless people ranting and raving in your whole walk. They are absolutely everywhere downtown (and elsewhere). Furthermore people are not moving here. Multnomah county (aka Portland essentially) has lost 11,000 people last year. There isn't a city in USA that has fallen so quickly in the past 10 years than Portland.

I just moved into the pearl district here in Portland, from Payson Arizona (population 20k) a couple days ago. I'm 18 and moved here with my 20 year old girlfriend. So far I am falling in love with the city though sadly it definitely has its homeless problem. It seems that if you make sure your car is very spotless they won't break in. The parking lot attached to my complex scares me just a little bit due to all the broken glass that is literally everywhere. I have a Harley that should be in the garage sometime after the weekend, other then walking down there early every morning to see how my ride is, everything about this city is amazing. When I speak to the house-less community (especially in the day), they are accepting to having a conversation with me. Adulting, venturing out in the city, and taking in the breathtaking views has been an amazing experience. Thank you guys for sharing your experience with me, it definitely has educated me.

I think all those who say Portland is unsafe are providing a service. They are encouraging the city to take action on the homeless situation, which is good, and they are discouraging some people from moving to Portland , which I also see as good because it helps to keep home prices relatively lower than in most other big west coast cities.
I visit Portland almost every year to see my daughter and I always enjoy my visit. I personally don't think Portland is worse than any other big west coast city. There are parts where I feel unsafe, for sure, but most of the city is fine. Downtown has not recovered from the pandemic, but that is the same in every big city. I felt the homeless situation was a lot better in SE Portland on my most recent visit, though there are still a lot of homeless outside of that area.
