  • On of my favorite flies for tight line nymphing is the TJ Hooker. It's versatile, effective, and fun to fish.

    I love that TJ Hooker too! It works great and I had one of my most productive days working it into the rotation.

      Such a great fly, you can twitch it, swim it, jig it.

    That TJ Hooker is one of my favorite flies for the yakima ... lot of good success even just indicator nymphing that fly.

    Picked up a few of the TJ hookers and some Joe’s Crayfish. Hopefully I will be able to get out in a week or two and try this technique ! Thanks again for another great video,

      Hi Eric, good luck. Just make absolutely sure that Craw is on the bottom. It doesn't fish in the middle of the column. Fish on!

    Man, I had a very productive time out on the Deschutes river using a tan TJ Hooker. Some of the biggest trout I've caught one that fly this week. The rainbows were loving it. I'm usually catching way more whitefish but this week it was reverse and I think it's because this fly, but could be just my luck.

    I agree that the fish like to hit when the presentation starts working away from the bank. The big boys will even chase my lures out to the middle of the river before taking. Slowing the end of the swing down and extending it with my arm produces strikes too.

    The farmlands stretch looks like chocolate milk this morning. No river fishing for me. Nice fish.

      Same, this was filmed yesterday and I was hoping that we would squeeze a half day in this morning but it was ugly by 8 am down here.

    Really need a graphic to explain that one.. Are you, rather than a natural drift, just leading it back towards the middle of the river?

    What type of euro rod are you using there Joe? Looks like you are using a longer rod to get over the top of the fly more.

      I am using an 11' Echo Shadow X 3 Weight in this video. I like a longer rod when tossing the heavy bugs. It's a fine rod, but fragile. redsflyfishing.com/products/echo-shadow-x-rod?_pos=1&_sid=7d4044433&_ss=r

    Looks like a nice day up there. I so badly want to find time to get to the Yakima this year. When do the irrigation flows ramp up?

      Usually they kick things up in mid June, but it's hard to say what happens. If the reservoirs fill up they start pouring in May so its very hard to know what will happen. We have lots of mountain snow this year so it might be a high runoff year.

    Great tip thanks. Is that an echo rod you were using? How do you like it?

      It's an 11' 3 Weight Shadow X, nice rod but fragile. I would consider purchasing a spare tip from us when you order one. redsflyfishing.com/products/echo-shadow-x-rod?_pos=1&_sid=7d4044433&_ss=r

    What size tungsten beads are on this fly? Are using just a single fly?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  3 роки тому +2

      I was using a single fly yes, it's just good clean fun sometimes to fish a single fly!

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  3 роки тому

      I am not sure on the bead size, but it has some lead wrapped in there as well. The #6 and #8 sink like rocks.
