This video is so informative and so very interesting! I knew that Melanie was an expert forager, but it’s AMAZING to me that she didn’t even have to eat her supply of pemmican during the 43 days of living in the woods! I learned many new things from this excellent video! Thank you and Melanie!😃👍

I needed a good 'space of time' for this one and what-a-dilly it was! Just WONDERFUL information and the filming was just lovely Empress Catherine...I thank you both for this vid. I hope that this AMAZING Melanie takes a liking to your Fort project and plans a stay with her soon-to-be hub. WHAT a team they would be to your; 'Fort Kelly' refuge! The knowledge and the beautiful vivacious character of Melanie are quite the combo. I luved hearing how she is a 'Foody'...as one may think, (as I do) that all 'yummy stuff' has to take a back seat to this way of life. I do take occasion here to shame you a bit Peter, for not liking porridge (LOL)! Look what it's done for Melanie = YIKES! This was simply RICH! "It isn't how you die. It's what you live for." "Adirondack" = "bark-eater" indeed. Grew up with the 'Daks as my backyard, and looking to relocate there now. What a special area.... nowhere else quite like it.
From the cliffs and road noise, I'd guess the beginning sequence was from around Poke-O-Moonshine? I did peruse M****n H****w Road a few months ago, looking for your home/business, and couldn't quite figure where y'all were situated. Perhaps you prefer it that way!
Maybe we'll cross paths in the future when I'm a local again...

I have to ask sir if the theme music that always warms my heart is played by yourself. When I hear it, I know great things are coming.

I’m quite aware of the food source. It was the fast food of the day as early as the 1600’s and well into the 1800’s. The Métis in Canada turned it into a multi million dollar industry in today’s dollars.

Hi Peter, nice video but I'm a bit confused, or have a different understanding of skunk cabbage I.D. than Melanie and hope you might elevate my confusion. First, the photography in the presentation on skunk cabbage is not detailed enough for me to accurately I.D. With that understanding, from what I can see, shape, and growth characteristics, I think the skunk cabbage you present is actually false hellebore, a toxic plant. The scene of Melanie washing here hands in the stream also has what I know as false hellebore in it. False hellebore has parallel veins/ribs in the leaves whereas skunk cabbage has net veins and broader leaves with an obvious petiole (not provided in Melanie's ID). Also at this time of the year an observant person should be able to see the spadix flower on skunk cabbage, though showing only on larger mature plants. Did the plant you were looking at smell strongly sort of like skunk musk?
