It is a pity that there isn't a set with 144 position 1/2 sockets and ratchet. The 144 position ratchets are great. However, Husky sockets are of lower quality than GearWrench over all.
Nice and honestly if that is all you could scuff it you could buff the scuffed scratches almost all the way off with like a mother's mag and aluminum wheel polish and the cheap harbor freight grants micro fiber cloths
Thrifty garage UA-cam channel did a review and comparison to the 200pc channel lock set with the husky 194 PC set I told you about just a little bit ago today he did his comparison in August of this year so it may be one of the most current offerings for socket sets and the husky socket set also has some wrenches and a few torx and Allen style hex bit sockets in it
That is a pretty cool set. Very good socket selection (hex and bit) all around. I'd get this for gits and shiggles if I didn't already have the tool tonnage I do. Good review, man. =)
At the moment this is the only set I saw in-store and online of 144 position ratchets. Hopefully they refresh the entire black oxide lineup and make singles of the 144 position. So right now, nope no 1/2” drive, just this set.
Did you torture test their older 72 tooth ratchet (specifically 3/8" but I'll take 1/4")? They still sell them singly and while theoretically they should hold up as well as the 144 position ratchets (i.e. the gear and anvil assembly should be the same and since the anvil failed on the 144's it should fail on the 72 tooth before the gears/pawls as well) and fail at about the same torque. Just curious because in another test you ran with another Husky 100 tooth ratchet (or 100 position, I can't keep up), it fared better, failing at a higher torque than the long handle one you show in this video. Thnx.
I dont think they are dual detent. There is only one detent bar inside. It looks like two but my set has only has one spot for the detent ball to catch on. The top part is a channel for the detent ball to ride in, then next is the detent bar, then another channel. So 2 channels 1 bar. Maybe your set is different.
not sure where my comment went but i ask did you like the gearwrench set better? i bought the husky 144 position set yesterday and i dont like it. the sockets flop around on the ratchet. the ratchets have too much slop in them and so does the sockets. when i first put the socket on the ratchet i thought it was gonna fall off, thats how much slop or play there is. i have an older craftsman 1/4" 84t ratchet that is much better, tigher and slimmer.
I am a fan of quick release in 3/8" drive so I personally really liked the ratchet. So is it better than GearWrench that's a matter of choice and opinion. The internals of the ratchet are nearly identical except for some extra teeth and the drive being quick release on the Husky means the drive tang and ball detent will be different. The actual drive tang play without a socket on the ratchets is really solid for me and the tolerances appeared nice and tight 👍🏻
The detents in the Husky sockets are a different story. The way they are machined are supposed to provide a more consistent retention force between ratchet brands and styles. Possibly even a different drive type that was never released (example bit.ly/2lYiGoD). The “slop” is not necessarily a bad feature as it aids in easily taking the socket off, otherwise it can be difficult with drive tools that do not have the quick release feature. Do the sockets work? Yes. Do I like the detent system? No, but again they work. I have a Dewalt set I'm currently reviewing and the sockets in the set have mixed detents and it drives me nuts.
@@ClientGraphics maybe i got a bad set. the sockets even when i put them on my other ratchets have alot of play, they wobble around a bit, is yours like that?
@@ClientGraphics the slop is a bad thing for me. it can cause you to slip off of bolts especially on deep sockets. this is where sets from snap-on. matco, mac, wont have this slop. oddly the stanley black chrome sockets that i have dont have this play in them.
@@jhue73 Yes, the sockets do have that up and down play as that is pretty standard for that internal machined detent style of socket since it runs deeper down the inside when compared to other socket detent styles such as the oval detent. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment 👍🏻
@@ClientGraphics You got it! 👌
One last thing I wanna share with you cause you like to destroy ratchets go to Ebay search gearwrench warranty set 80900 & read just what you'll get for $55 I'm not a big fan of the specific seller but wait till you check out the 63 piece set.. let me know what you think I almost bought 2
That’s an odd kit but it certainly has everything you would need for things that break or that you lose/miss place.
They are made my apex aka gearwrench that make the monster brand rachets also
And sata
I have the 144 and the 100p the 100p feels alot better and comes in a locking flex also think it's a much better ratchet...
jumped all over the GW 120 3/8 and 1/4 flex heads when they were on sale at NAPA as a pair. I am embarrassed to admit, I literally never use them.
Can't say why. I go to my Carlyles, Matco, or Cornwell. It's not that I don't like them. Can't say why.
Maybe it’s the mirror like chrome, the smooth action. Maybe it’s a backup or just a great deal. Whatever the case you are not alone in having an extra ratchet for a rainy day.
If it was like a Matco locking flex head would they would sell them like crazy. Have enough straight handle ratchets
VENOMVETTE They currently have the locking flex in the black oxide 100 position ratchet so I hope they will be swapping that with the chrome 144 position. Have to wait and see thd.co/2MMhaC2
21👍great job see you soon hope you visit me
Unfortunately husky doesn't seem to sell rebuild kits/parts because of lifetime warranty.
I have never seen a service kit in store for-sale but it wouldn’t surprise me that they don’t carry one. Might try asking HUSKY CUSTOMER SERVICE & SUPPORT at 1-888-HD-HUSKY (1-888-434-8759) but a warranty exchange if needed drives traffic to the store in hopes you buy something else...
He's still wacking away 😷
They are made in the same factory. lol. These are literally Craftsman sockets. I don't like the chinese made Craftsman sockets because the offset on the sockets is too deep for my 3/8" drive Premium USA ratchet.
Why 6:11 🤦🤦🤦 definitely don't know how to use tools
