The very, very best part of Steve Rinella's Meateater series is the respect he and his group of hunters show the animals they harvest. There is no fist pumping, yahooing juvenile display. That majestic animal has just died, its life taken from it. I have not seen an episode where the hunter(s) have not shown a profound introspection of the moment and what it means.
True. They are almost sad standing there looking at that beautiful animal…I know I would be. It’s important to understand where your food comes from and what it entails to harvest it.
Absolutely agree. Deep respect to these hunters. They act in a profound and dignified manner, respecting the life they have just taken. It would be a pleasure to hunt alongside such gentlemen. Well done and happy hunting!
This is a bad take people express differently definitely seen a fist pump or two on this channel. Stop letting your insecurities make judgments on peoples happiness
I hunt for a living and have been hunting since I could hold a gun. This isn’t just some hobby I took up because I had some money and read some texts or watched some podcast and felt inspired and inclined to harvest wild game. This is something I was born into and have loved every bit of it and every experience. If you’re not excited and you don’t want to take your opportunities seriously then you should be a bird watcher or a photographer. You all are fairies…
I love the idea of them seeing a perfect bull to harvest and just not wanting the moment or the experience to end till the opportunity passes. So perfect!
Agreed. I've done this once in my life. I passed up the largest bull caribou I've been in range of, I let him pass for no reason other than he looked majestic and felt the need to let him live.
This is probably my favorite meat eater episode I've ever seen! What a true adventure! Doug not shooting that bull demonstrates how much of a sportsman he really is. Mark shot a TANK of a caribou And Steve... Well Steve never ceases to amaze me on what we can eat off of an animal.
I would love to see a video of steve's bookshelf and suggested readings. The beauty of Alaska and the majesty of those caribou bulls is awesome. And you have to respect the grizzly.
This Meat Eater video is excellent. I've done what Doug did when he saw that first caribou bull. Only I've done it a few times over the years with a couple of moose. Sometimes it just feels right to simply observe and bask in the moment of being there instead of being the hunter.
If you have to adhere to very strict weight limitations to board the bush plane, how do you calculate the flight back with all that caribou meat? That said, another exciting hunt. Thanks again, Steven!
he is in more than sitka gloves ..this was his introduction to meateaater and a trip that was on short notice. he was likely still under contract with sitka...in one clip you can see that they put tape over one of the logos on his jacket
A lot of hunters who only get 2-3 animals a year, won’t understand the ‘not pulling the trigger’. When you KNOW that something will present itself later, the small moments becomes so much slower and easier to take in the details. And likewise a nature observer won’t understand how much more beautiful something is to the view when they CAN kill something (with the perfect shot presented), but don’t.
I don't think you give us much credit. I always enjoy watching animals, wherever I am and whatever I am doing, regardless of my intentions toward them.
Coincidences are REALLY weird things… this is from 2017. I only know that because I put the meat eater podcast on shuffle and got this EXACT episode on the podcast after watching it. I checked the episode and it said October 2017.
Our great grandfathers hunts with emense respect of nature. They didn't exploit the nature but after the British Invasion of North East India, Nagaland. And the forcefull occupation of Naga Hill by India, we now have rarely sees even birds due to exasive hunting by our own people due to article 371a indian Constitution. But there are some district and places we have seasonal hunting where i too still involve and do follow traditional hunting and ritual.... Watching Steve satisfies me, as a Mongol descent i can see the ethical hunting in his blood. May be he was a mongol descent in his past life. Amen!..
I wonder how far they can see and smell you from it looks pretty wide open, also I wonder why they don’t have any calls maybe to grab there attention great hunt this was awesome
Caribou have poor eyesight and being a herd animal they don't really have calls, when you are close to them you can hear them grunt but that's mostly when they are in a herd and grazing.
Can you let me know a great lodge in Alaska (Once in a lifetime kind of place) that offers excellent fishing and an opportunity to hunt for a caribou? I am going to take my family there and I want this a bucket list experience. Halibut, lingcod, salmon, and some excellent fly fishing. I have been saving for this FOR EVER and am looking around 25k to 30k for all of us (4 adults). I want to make sure we go at the best time of year so my budget will be higher but that’s just an idea of what I can afford. Would really appreciate any advice.
i would so love to do a hunt like this but it seams only obtainable to people with lots of money . also it would be great if on some of these you could tell us what caliber you use or your friends im think on lines of 300 WM or 7mm or bigger i have the weatherby 30.06 i love but think out there might need to go bigger
Man it looks beautiful to be there but honestly this doesn't really seem like hunting , 50,000 animals lol , if I'm going all the way to Alasks it's gonna be for Moose or Elk or Grizzly or even Wolf
I guess if your over 280# your out of luck unless you can find a bigger plane. The grazing must be very good for the caribou to have all that fat Steve.
They’ve been running older generation Savage 110’s in these recent episodes (including this one). In other seasons they’ve used mostly Weatherby Vanguards/Mark V’s. Not sure the caliber in this episode, but Steve is known to use 7mm Rem Mag.
WHen can we SEE and ENJOY more of the fine cooking of wild meats you do so well???? BTW...respectfully could I suggest you have a retiring career in running your own restaurant when you dont wanna go into the bush anymore: I truly sense a creative well of cooking skills that you could give humanity.....just sayin'

No that’s not why, they don’t want you to shoot the day you fly in because you could easily scout animals so once you land you know exactly where to go.
The dude who killed the caribou should work at a funeral home LOL I mean the guy is on a trip of a lifetime to most of us yet he's acting like somebody shit in his Corn Flakes

It's great for so many reasons. There is so much to take away from this single episode. Much respect and admiration for what they made here.

The way you respect the animals and the land is why I keep watching. You are a hunter through and through.
Great day when you can relax and watch good ole meat eater eh boys

Steve is an artist. He's a pretty good hunter, but he's an artist. He's the only person that could properly narrate his own books. Pretty cool guy

The music in the video made it 100x better.
Soundtrack on this ep was awesome
This is one of your best episodes. Much respect.
Having a busy day at work but then a new Meateater episode comes out…guess I know what I’m doing for the next 25 minutes
Part 1 is in the books !!! Can't wait for the next parts !!!
Alaska Caribou hunt…bucket list.
My least favorite part about these episodes is that they end.
Great episode.
God bless you guys.
I can't wait to go back to Alaska.
If you have to adhere to very strict weight limitations to board the bush plane, how do you calculate the flight back with all that caribou meat? That said, another exciting hunt. Thanks again, Steven!
They typically require a seperate flight for meat
Doug is one of my favorite people!
First 19 seconds of video wins it. Its all about the food! Period
The show always makes me hungry
I wonder if Mark got in trouble for wearing Sitka gloves. Lol
Lots of Sitka clothes on the one guy.

Loved the music choice at 2:30

This brings back fond memories of a caribou hunt I did. They are one of the best animals to eat. The fat behind the eye does taste like dough
Doug not taking the shot makes me like him that much more for some reason!
Much love from San Francisco CA
Amazing hunt guys congratulations 😊 Wait to see the next part😊

Steve, I swear you did the fat behind the eyeball trick in a deer in The Missouri Breaks long so.
Tried the eyeball fat on my whitetail buck last season. Tasted like dough. 👍
Great video as always , thanks for letting us go hunting with you
Does no one else think that guy he’s hunting with looks like Leo DiCaprio 🤔
Doug's gonna need the full length of that runway. lol
A couple of buddies and I did exactly that same hunt on the 40 mile herd a few years ago. Utterly amazing. Thanks for posting!
What does an unguided hunt like this typically cost? I’m not from the US, so I have no idea
@@TrolloTV If I remember correctly it cost $3000 per person for drop off and pick up in a Super Cub. We hunted alone with no guide.

What time of year did you go? I’m goinglast week of august first week of September up past brooks range and didn’t know what the weather will be like?
In belgium we have roe deer populations with densities of 269 per square mile (one deer per hectare).
I’m surprised Mark didn’t name it before he pulled the trigger.. jk though, what a cool experience. Congrats, Mark- hell of a bull 🤘🏼👍🏼
I remember listening to the podcast from when they were on this hunt...they named a bunch of them actually. Fabio was one of the names I recall

is this not an old episode? imma watch anyway
Doug : "That was worth the trip right there". 7.25
Yup. Just what I thought. "All hunters are just bloodthirsty carnivores."
We are not that. We care about nature. More than you.
"280" would be a good nick-name. 😂 👍

Love Doug. That is all.
Geez that's a big man he had to stuff his big self n that plain😂😂

So if you’re barely making weight on the planes on the way in how do you make weight on the way out with 3 caribou? Do they factor that in?
These need to be 2x as long.

How do you get the meat back if there’s crazy limits on weight ?

How is this being presented by The US Border Patrol? Am i missing something? Is it a joke i am not getting?
Those caribou enter the United States illegally from Canada.
How’d they get the meat back with all the limits on the plane?
call in another plane???
they make trips
